    Dave The Guitar Guy

    (22 reviews)

Hi my name is David and I love and enjoy teaching guitar lessons to students of all ages and I come to your home for lessons. My goal in life is to enrich people's lives with music. The first thing I do is interview the student and find out why they want to play the guitar and what are some of their goals. Then I find out what style of music they like and would like to learn. I have the student come up with ten songs they would like to learn. I take this information and structure future guitar lessons around the essential elements of these songs. I design each lesson to teach the specific skills required to learn those songs. I create an organized custom guitar lesson workbook for each of my student at no cost to the student or parent. This way, my students have a weekly organized practice routine and they become successful. Having a teaching degree, (B.A. Music - Conservatory of Music - Concentration: Studio Composition / Master's in Education - M.A.T. / Adolescence Education (Grades 5-12) 3.56 GPA). I create all of the guitar lessons to meet each students individual needs that include lessons on theory, technique, rhythm, chords, scales, riffs, arpeggio's, songs, and exercises etc. I break down songs into easy digestible parts so students can learn a song in a logical and most manageable way. I use a color coded method to teach that I created that help students not only learn and understand scales and chords but also they are able to see visually how scales and chords are created. I currently teach private guitar lessons and have worked for 12 years as a teacher in our local schools with students K through 12. For 2 years, from 2012 to 2014 I taught an after-school enrichment guitar and songwriting class for 6 and 7 year old children. In College I won an award for the most Improved Studio Composition Student at Purchase College. Also, for the last 2 years Thumbtack winner of the Best of 2015-16 award for excellent customer reviews. I incorporate lessons that I have learned in the classroom as a teacher to help my guitar students learn. I feel the most important thing for my students to learn about music is to have a lot of fun. I have been teaching guitar lessons for over 18 year and love teaching music because one of my biggest goals is to enrich my students life's with music. If they have music as part of their lives I have accomplished my job.

I am young, and have fresh experience playing under many guitar icons in a variety of styles thanks to my Berklee experience. I am proficient at many styles, and can teach at a higher level but also spin it in a cohesive way to beginners. I have tons of experience teaching children especially. I am coherent at theory, as well as playing. I love passing on the gift of music, it's always great to see my summer students achieve what they wanted to musically on their instrument. I love getting into peoples' practice regimes and giving them tips on how to approach new content, as a listener and a player.

I have been a working musician in New York City for 5 years and for 5 years in Connecticut before that. I play 5 nights a week on average and have been in many different musical situations. I'm also well versed in music theory. I like making a musical impact on someones life. I'm trying to replicate what so many great musicians have done for me. Through the my own study and private lessons masters have taught me many different strategies for approaching music and life. I have been touched greatly by other musicians. If I can give someone the joy that other musicians have given to me I feel like I will have done my job.

I have been voted and considered NY's top guitar teacher for many years now. I teach over 60 lessons a week and I have far more experience than practically every teacher out there. I have been the touring guitarist for Lita Ford, Bent Pussycat, Almost Queen, and dozens of acts, as well as a broadway performer, and recently as the lead guitarist in Rock of Ages. I teach all styles and levels. I have a proven method of teaching that I have been using for twenty years. My students have gone on to become some of the top music teachers and performers in the business, and with my contacts I have helped them secure some incredible jobs and gigs. I teach in a very supportive and encouraging matter that never judges anyone. Lessons are productive and most of all enjoyable. I can sayed without a doubt, that only after one lesson you will agree that you are finally on the right path to reach the musical goals you always dreamed of. Search the web and You Tube, and you will certainly find my work. I do NYSSMA training and coaching, as well as scholarship audition planning and practicing. I also work as a consultant and trainer for music teachers who want to improve their own music lesson businesses. I have very few spots open, but I am always willing to take on a serious student regardless of level. All students are screened before starting. A free consultation with me is encouraged before committing to lessons.

I'm a professional studio musician with many years of recording experience. If you are a serious musician and have a particular style in mind, I can teach you of what you need to know. If you just want to play to entertain friends and family, that, too, can be accomplished in short order. I've been involved with the adult education programs in the Hicksville, Farmingdale and Plainedge school districts. I also started the guitar program at the Glen Cove WYCA, which is still currently active. I'm experienced in teaching all ages, at all levels; and yes, beginners are welcomed. Learning to play a musical instrument at an early age is proven scientifically to be beneficial to the child's ability to learn in all areas; this is well-documented. I offer one-on-one private lessons at your home or at my home studio (in Hicksville, on the Syosset border), and I teach all styles of music which include rock, metal, classical, jazz, fusion jazz, country, pop and others. Music theory and creative improvising are specialties of mine and are included in all lessons.

  • Guitarist & Guitar Instructor

    Chad Wade: Guitarist & Instructor

Bio: Born into a musical family, Chad Wade studied piano as a child and purchased his first guitar at age 14. He studied the electric guitar with Greg Nipp and played in several bands throughout high school and college. He later earned a bachelor of arts degree in music from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied classical guitar under Cuban master, Mario Abril. Chad has performed at a variety of venues over the years, from intimate weddings to large benefit concerts (the largest being 7,000). He has taught both private and group lessons to different ages and skill levels for over seven years. He has been certified as a TakeLessons and Taylor Robinson Music instructor. Chad now serves as music pastor for Encounter Church in Darien, CT. Lesson content: I mainly teach the finger style technique and repertoire of classical guitar. This technique can be applied to different kinds of guitars (steel string acoustic, electric, etc.) and can serve as an excellent foundation to other musical styles (jazz, blues, country, rock, etc.), but can only be effectively learned on a true classical guitar. Beginning students will be guided through First Lessons for Guitar: Volume 1 by Julio S. Sagreras (which I will provide for $5). Students will also acquire the classic etudes of Sor, Carcassi, Villa-Lobos and Brouwer, later exploring the rich diversity of classical guitar repertoire from the renaissance, baroque, romantic, and modern eras. If you're interested in learning other styles, we can agree on a personalized track to learning what you'd like to learn. The first lesson is free: I offer this incentive because I want to assure the student/parent that we are going to work well together. This first lesson is a great opportunity to establish goals, answer any question, and clearly communicate what the student should expect from my guitar lessons. Parents are welcome to sit in on this relational discussion, as well as any other lesson, as long as they are not a distraction to the student. Performances: I also regularly perform at various events. The unique sound of plucked nylon strings elicits a pleasant, formal mood while remaining conducive for conversation. The guitar is most suitable for smaller, intimate venues, but amplification can be used for larger venues. My most requested pieces include Pachelbel's "Canon in D," Mendelsohn's "Wedding March," and Wagner's "Bridal Chorus", but most guitar music from the renaissance, baroque, romantic, and modern eras are often appropriate for any venue. Additionally, the guitar is versatile enough to play music composed for other instruments, so the possibilities are endless.
