I have been taking piano lessons with Lucinda since I was seven years old. Lucinda taught me to play the piano and read music in a way that was fun and interesting while helping me develop my passion for music. Thanks to Lucinda, I will now have piano for the rest of my life. Playing the piano has become more than just a neat skill, it’s a stress reliever and hobby. With Lucinda, I am continuously pushed to be my best and try pieces that I love regardless of their difficulty. Lucinda and her husband are also excellent singers and I have been lucky enough to be taught by them (as well as learn piano) and even sing at some of the piano recitals. Not only is Lucinda a skilled pianist and teacher she is also an incredible person. Lucinda is my role model, she is intelligent, kind, full of wisdom and she inspires me. Lucinda is more than my piano teacher, she is my friend. I absolutely recommend Lucinda Winslow’s piano studio, you couldn’t ask for a better teacher.

Before I provide my personal evaluation of Lucinda Winslow, I feel the need to include some critical background information as context for my comments. I am doing this because Lucinda is my third piano teacher. Hence, I have a unique point of comparison. I have played both the acoustic guitar and trumpet at a high level since middle school. Despite that, I ALWAYS wanted to play the piano. After I retired from a "high-powered" career on Wall Street due to illness, I decided to pursue and fulfill my dream. I went to a local music store to obtain a reference for a piano teacher. The instructor that they recommended gave half hour lessons to consecutive students with no "down time" in between. This was extremely unproductive; the lesson was over before I sat down on the piano bench! My second teacher was about to launch her own musical career. As a result, she was unfocused and inattentive to her students. THEN I DISCOVERED LUCINDA. I knew immediately that she was a perfect fit for me. Lucinda IS the "real deal" and a consummate professional. Only superlatives apply to her teaching skills; broad knowledge base; intellect; understanding; compassion; enthusiasm; endearing personality; and overt love of music and the piano. She is more than adept and competent at her "craft". After five years of lessons, I consider Lucinda to be both my mentor and my friend. The piano is a challenging and humbling instrument. Lucinda introduced me to a new fingering technique that she uses to perform. It has enabled me to improve more rapidly than I ever considered possible. Lucinda is also patient, and a tireless instructor who takes the time to ensure that her students understand what she is attempting to communicate to them. If you don't understand a concept or technique on your first attempt, then she finds a different means of teaching them to you. Lucinda treats each of her students with the utmost respect and honors their individuality. To say that I highly recommend her is an understatement!

    Yes, I continue to study piano and perform myself, attend Taubman teacher training, do masterclasses, and attend Schubert Club events to stay on top of what is going on.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

    Do an interview with the teacher and take a sample lesson. You and your child must like the instructor, as well as find the teaching environment beautiful and relaxing. You should feel that the teacher is confident about what he or she teaches yet is interested in the student's whole life as well. The teacher should be well versed in piano as well as music in general but also be a people person.
