Rome Leite is the contractor nightmare from hell. I wish I had been more diligent when I checked his reviews, as I would have avoided him like the plague. My lovely young professional daughter worked very hard for several years, saving and taking on extra work baby sitting and dog sitting while working long hours in the high end closet design industry. I helped purchase a condo for her. The unit needed a complete renovation. Unfortunately, I hired Rome. My daughter gave him a sizable payment in the amount of $8,600.00 to start the work. A few days in his subcontractor cut through a pipe and there was a flood that affected the common areas and several other units. Rome, at that point showed his true colors. He did not take a hands on approach. He showed up several days later. A disaster company was called in to handle the water damage. Rome would not make an insurance claim. He tried to do everything out of pocket. The Condo Board was displeased with his work and his lack of diligence. After what should have taken two weeks to complete, he was still giving excuses after two months. The Board fired him and barred him from the building. We were not on site to observe the work because the unit was a complete renovation. My daughter trusted him when he asked for a second payment of $6,500.00 two days after the flood. We thought he would return to the unit in two weeks. It didn’t happen. He completed work in the amount of $1,600.00. This sum was out of two checks totalling $15,100.00. He absconded with her hard earned money and wouldn’t even return the keys. How low can you get, and if that isn’t bad enough he refused to put in an insurance claim even though he said he would. He lied. The Condo Association is billing the damages to the unit. I asked Rome to return the payment of $6,500.00 to start which he did no work for. He said he didn’t have it. He operates a Ponzi scheme. I contacted him via phone, text and email. He won’t respond. He’s completely off the radar. Needless to say I will be taking him to Small Claims Court. PLEASE folks, DO NOT hire this swindler.
