All points Movers were on time, efficient, neat, and well organized. Their pricing was competitive with other local movers. They even moved a piano and took the time to have an expert on hand to tune the piano after it was moved. Bravo! I would hire them again.

Hired Jay and his team to help me pack and move boxes and furniture to my uhaul (was moving upstate). His business is legit and insured (important when hiring movers) and his team members were professional. This was a big job, and they knocked it out. Looking at hiring them again for a cleaning job. Highly recommend!

Shay and Chris were great! I needed movers last minute and on a Saturday. Their price was just what I was looking for and they were very efficient and very nice! Getting the job done with no problem. I like that even though it was hot and they were working really hard they always had a smile on their face and kept a positive attitude! I wish I could give them a 10STAR rating! I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. I will for sure be using them for my next move! TY!

Great Job for a last minute move!

We had an exceptional experience with this team. I needed a last minute job completed after the previous firm failed to come through. Ryan was able to work around a very tight deadline forcing them to work at night. He was exceptional. His skill, attention to detail, and brilliance was beyond my levels of expectations. I do feel as though he can do different types of work because he is overqualified, in my personal opinion. From start to finish, I was blown away and he made it happen. The finished project deserves A++. I would not hesitate to call them again. Not often does a guy show up in a suit....turn around two hours later with a crew and WORK WITH HIS CREW and then work overnight two days in a row. A calloused handshake is something to be proud of. Hard workers and good guys.

The team came on time, and were very willing and able to move us. Even though our estimation of what needed to be moved was more than originally believed, the movers took the time to ensure everything was packaged and moved safely with minimal damage. And the price was very fair considering how much needed to be moved. I would definitely recommend them again, as they were flexible with my hours as well.

Ryan Warner and Warner's Moving Services are an incredible company. I called them for a last minute job. They were gracious enought to accommodate me and my move last minute. Not only that, but the elevators in the building I was moving into ended up breaking right before they arrived with all of my stuff. They ended up carrying everything through the rain and up 3 huge flights of stairs. I would recommend these guys over and over. Their price was incredible too.

I was on the phone with Joe speaking about the move for the initial inquiry and he was able to tell me exactly how everything would go. The day the movers arrived they were on time, and I couldn’t believe how quick they moved. Also, they were able to move my couch in the elevator. The guys who delivered it couldn’t even fit it in the elevator, but Joe’s guys got it done. I had to put a deposit down for the move, but I got it back the day after the move was done, which was way faster than I expected. Moreover, the price was better than any other place that quoted me, especially the big brand places that had a minimum of $1,000. Had the whole move done for under $600 for a 1 and a 1/2 bedroom that wasn’t a local move 10/10 would recommend

The guys did a great job - they were quick, professional, polite, and punctual. I hired MVM at the last minute. They were very easy to work with, and reasonably priced. I needed the guys to move a bunch of boxes and some furniture into a small moving trailer. I needed them to really pack the truck well, but I ended up having to re-pack some of it, after they finished, in order to make the load more stable. I think it was tough to get my point across because I was in a hurry to get everything together and done, and down the stairs to my moving trailer. I do not speak Spanish well. The guys spoke English pretty well, but I had a tough time explaining the more complex parts of what I wanted. That may just be me being picky because the moving trailer was going to be towed 1000 miles, and it really had to be packed properly - heavy stuff on bottom, at front, and stabilized with tie-downs. I could have addressed this better if I'd spent more time explaining it clearly, or asked them to call their translator. Everything else I asked of them, they understood and did perfectly, and knew what to do and how to move my stuff with minimal damage. They did a really great job, got everything into the trailer (and I was worried it wouldn't all fit) on a very hot day with record-high temperatures. I would definitely hire them again, and would recommend MVM, without reservations.

Darryl and his crew were absolutely incredible. They weren't just the best movers I've ever had, the whole move was some of the best customer service I've ever had. I had a bit of an odd move - we had to first move out of a 1 story walk-up in the East Village, then out of a storage unit about 15 blocks away, then all the way to the Upper West Side. But they were absolute pros. They showed up 15 mins early, which in NYC is crucial, because you never know what can go wrong on the day of your move. They were extremely polite and courteous as they assessed the amount, then went to work. They were extremely careful with everything, and even helped me take the AC out of the window, AND made sure to drain it of excess water before putting it on the truck. They did all the little and thoughtful touches perfectly. At the storage unit, they were able to make a tight fit to park it in the loading bay - we're talking by an inch or two, yet they pulled it off in one try. When they delivered everything to the new place, they were just as careful, and placed everything in a way so that we could easily access key areas and unpack in a more efficient way. And above all, they were all extremely nice, polite, courteous, and great to chat with, as well as a great value. I was being quoted higher prices for a truck and 3 movers, and even a truck and 2 movers. You absolutely will not go wrong picking this company. Thanks again to Darryl and the guys!

Kervel and his helper arrived promptly within the time frame they gave me. They were both extremely friendly and courteous. They met me in Bridgeport and moved the furniture to Derby well within the timeframe. They are both very strong. The piece I moved was 6 ft long and very heavy. I would hire them again in a minute!

Ryan and his associate arrived on time and was extremely careful with the piano we needed moving. Unlike many movers, he was very calm despite the busy street, difficulty finding good parking, and heavy lifting. We were extremely pleased at how everything went. I highly recommend him. The price was very good too.

We were told that 2 guys were going to be moving us from our 2-bedroom apartment to house, but 3 showed up. This was especially nice considering movers charge by the hour. They showed up on time, worked efficiently, and made sure that any fragile items were handled with care. Being both professional and laid back, I would definitely use these guys for any future moves!

About a month ago I started researching moving companies to try and get things all set in advance of our move. I called many companies as to do my homework. Erin instantly made me feel less stressed about our move with her great personality and professionalism. Fast forward to when the movers came (one being the co owner) They were on time, and shocked me with the quickness of their work but at the same time you can see they were paying attention not to get a mark on anything. Ron helped the guys with the move as well as gave the guys direction on loading the truck. I was extremely please with the entire process and will recommend them to anyone I know who is moving.

I contacted Tom early on a Sunday morning to see if he would be available to move a piano the same day after another company cancelled on me last minute. Not only was he available the same day, he responded right away, and picked up and delivered the piano to my house within a few hours! He was courteous, professional, flexible and very friendly and I'm thrilled with the piano that is now in my home. It was an absolute pleasure to do business with Connecticut Piano Restoration.

I was extremely impressed with Roman and his company. Long-term stressful circumstances and everything needing to be timed to the minute left me with a small margin for error on my part, the movers, the scrap metal guy, Salvation Army, etc. Roman and Joseph showed up exactly at 11 as promised. Roman immediately took calm control of everything by suggesting a walk through. Then he said "Let's get started!" And he and Joseph briskly and efficiently emptied my house and packed the truck. Several times I had questions. Each time Roman smiled, answered and communicated in manner and words "Everything's under control. No problem." Even Joseph looked at me kindly and said "Don't worry. We'll take care of everything." I have no car so I rode to my new place with them. By the time we got there, I was so relaxed, I was laughing. And just as efficiently, they unloaded the truck up some very steep stairs, keeping their smiles the entire time. I bought them lunch: I was very grateful not only for their efficiency and capability, but for the de-stressing factor they added to my life simply by being my movers. Historically I move frequently, and so I definitely count Roman and his people as my MFL (Movers For Life). Added note is that he was the GM for Two Men and a Truck for 10 years prior to starting his own business 4 years ago with his own capital, growing a bit at a time. I’ve worked with people my entire life; what I do depends on my ability to accurately asses a person, who they are, and what they’re about. I heard Roman handle several client calls for upcoming moves very professionally with the same assurance that left me knowing I was hiring the right guys. Roman is conscientious, sharp, and focused on building a strong and ethical business dedicated to helping people have peace of mind during their move. I’m definitely using him again – if he agrees to, knowing he’ll have to deal with those stairs again when I move out!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
