Irina P. says, "I found this company by reviews and decided to share my experience. Jose and his team painted walls and ceilings in my house and I'm very satisfied with the work they've done. Jose was understanding and accommodating, I needed to delay the start of works for 2 days and he agreed though he was busy with other clients, what I really appreciated. Little things that turned out in the process like the need of extra painting of a closet, doors and radiators were not an issue and even didn't cause the delay in our schedule, as well Jose called an electrician to remove my wall lamps to paint the wall completely. Such attitude is highly appreciated. What I appreciate even more is that we finished the work by now but Jose agreed to come one more time to do the touchups and finish little things to have everything perfect! I'm really happy with such attitude and care about clients and when I will need more work to be done in the house would call them again Walls at the house were bright colours before and really hard to convert into pure white, but they did it beautifully and made sure that the tone is even, without spots Would recommend this company if you need quality job for fair price"See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to fix a fence?

The average cost of fence repairs is around $250, with most homeowners paying anywhere between $200 and $300. Fence repairs have a wide range of potential costs, however, ranging from $50 to as much as $1,443. The cost of your fence repair project depends on multiple factors, including where you live, what type of repair you need, the terrain and the fence materials used.

Contact several fence repair professionals near you to get an accurate cost estimate for your fence.

How much does it cost to fix a gate?

Gates can be more expensive to fix than other parts of a fence, and there are several reasons for this. The first is that gates are the only moving parts on a fence — hence they have more components that can wear out, as well as friction and the potential for rusting and sagging. Fixing a gate may require a total replacement or simply replacing certain components like hinges. Sometimes, the repair may involve fixing the surrounding fence.

Contact several gate repair professionals near you to get an accurate cost estimate for your gate.

Should I repair or replace my fence?

Fence repair is better for common problems that only affect small areas, such as a broken picket or a shifting fence post. However, there is a rule of thumb to follow: If the repair project requires replacing 20% or more of your fence, it’s probably time to replace the whole fence. The exception to this rule is if the fence is fairly new and just part of it is damaged.

Why does my gate sag?

A gate can sag for a number of reasons. One common reason is that the screws holding the hinges in the wood or other post material have come loose, causing gravity to pull the fence down. Another common problem is the gate post’s lack of stability. Posts can become loose and start to lean, or if they are wooden, they can even rot at the point where they meet the ground.

What are some common fence repairs?

The most common fence repairs are aimed at fixing:

  • Missing boards or slats. This is a common problem with wood fences.
  • Fence material corrosion. This occurs on metal fences like chain link and iron.
  • A sagging gate. This could result from a tilting fence post or loose hinges.
  • Post movement. Typically, this is caused by frost, corrosion or water.
  • Stains. Moisture and other elements can stain fencing, which may require a professional to remove it.
  • Warping. Warped, curled, cupped or bent boards are unsightly and less effective and need to be replaced.

If you notice any of the above issues with your fence, reach out to fence repair professionals near you to start getting cost estimates and schedule an appointment.

Who installs fences?

Fencing contractors are the best choice when you want to have a fence installed on your property. While there are several types of professionals who can likely handle this service — including handymen, landscapers and general contractors — a fencing contractor has the experience to know what could cause potential problems in the long run. This might include wet spots, vegetation or other issues with the land.

When choosing a professional to install a fence on your property, make sure they have credentials and experience.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.

How do you strengthen a fence gate?

If you think your gate needs reinforcement, hire a fence repair professional in your area. Squaring up a fence gate may require adding corner brackets, installing a cable and turnbuckle, and cinching and tightening the cable to the appropriate tension. All of these repairs, as well as digging a new post hole, require expertise and know-how.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

ASA Fence put up a new white vinyl privacy fence in our backyard in December 2020. A year later and the fence has held up excellently and still looks brand new. The crew worked hard and had the entire fence up in a day. ASA provides a great product at an excellent price and I will absolutely use them again for future fencing needs.

I cannot say enough about Emporer Fence. Reynaldo responded quickly to my request for mending an existing wooden fence and he came out to the house the next day. The fence had several twisted and leaning posts that pulled away from the fence, close to toppling over. He had a crew at the house the next day and secured the fence and increased the aesthetics. Fantastic person and business to work with.

My fence is beautiful!! I had the best experience working with Byron and ASA Fence Construction. Bryon worked with my crazy work schedule and met me early one Sunday morning to take measurements and provide the fence estimate. The estimate was extremely reasonable and he offered pictures of fence options. We had two days of delays due to material issues and rain. The team began work late one afternoon, removed the old fence and secured the posts. They returned two days later IN THE RAIN and finished the job. I didn’t even know they were outside working. I woke up to a missed call and text and a crew installing my fence. This was one of the best experiences I’ve had to date with a contractor. I highly recommend them and will use them for future fence needs.

I sent CND pictures of my fence and specifically what I needed fixed. They re-used some of the old wood from my fence in different areas. They built a gate that is an eyesore, installed lock upside down and about 50% of the new wood used was damaged. I overpaid them by $100 and they never responded about fixing the fence, lock or refund. Do not advise using this company.

Carlos and team did an excellent job removing some chain link fence. They were very responsive and flexible on timing, reasonably priced, and they did great work. They also added on some extra clearing of the area after removing the fence. 10/10

The work they did for my fence was good. They weren’t the best at communicating though. I thought I was going to get the same height fence I had but they lowered it without discussing with me because the posts weren’t high enough. I also asked for quotes for a couple other projects and didn’t get anything from them. The fence did look good and they did come add a lattice to the top to fix the height problem.

Five Star painted my fence, and the quality of the work was exceptional. The painter/stainer was meticulous and carefully protected my plants/herbs that are next to the fence. I'd strongly recommend the company and definitely use them again. Below are just a couple of snapshots to show the work quality.

Reynaldo responded immediately when I submitted a request for a quote. His price was very reasonable and he was available right away to complete the job. I needed just a small section of my fence replaced. I wanted an 8 foot tall horizontal picket privacy fence. Reynaldo and his assistant arrived on the day we had arranged and got right to work. The job was completed in a few hours and the fence looked amazing! I am so happy to have a more secure and attractive fence at a great price. Thank you Reynaldo! I would not hesitate to hire him in the future and highly recommend his service!

This company was great to work with and did an amazing job for our fence in a very short amount of time. They also work within our budget to complete the work in a timely fashion. If we ever need a fence again (hopefully not in a long time) I would use them again.

Makimanta removed a concrete patio and sidewalks and replaced a crumbling retaining wall and wooden fence in my backyard. More than any other company that gave me a quote, Makimanta really listened to what I was looking for and didn't try to suggest a quick slapdash replacement of just my fence. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail really shine through in the finished fence, and they worked hard to deliver the project on time. They did a really nice job and the entire experience working with them was awesome.
