Introduction: Hello, I am Lyon. I began playing when I was eight years old, and started USTA competition when I was ten. My highest place in junior tennis was fourth in DC and thirty-second in the Mid-Atlantic in 1983. I attended Bullis High School from 1981-1983, and was a fellow member of the 1982 National Championship tennis team, that is in the Bullis Hall of Fame. I was rated a 5.5-6.0 player at the ATP Tennis Center located in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL about 10 years ago. I have got and can instruct any shot in the book. My style in teaching focuses on achieving excellent footwork (for balance), which will lead the student to find out how to employ their body to generate the power in their shots. I've been teaching part time for more than 20 years. I'm comfortable teaching any level of player. Depending on the level of the student, with beginners to intermediate players, I start with around 5 minutes of short court to have an idea of what their footwork is like and their ability to control the ball. If the player is not good enough to hold a rally, I'll give them balls, forehand for ten minutes (cross court then down the line), then similar for the backhand and form a proper technique in the ground stroke to improve their game. I teach everything. I feature every shot in the book. In my spare time, I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, swimming, running, playing tennis, mountain biking, basketball, and soccer.
