I cant help but want to share with others how great Lenny Rogers was at my wedding! The guests at my wedding asked multiple times "Who is the videographer? Because he is outstanding!" The photo booth, props and scrap book will be memories I will cherish! The video he put together of our special day, was MORE then I expected! He hit the nail on the head! His prices are outstanding, and the service he provided was far above par. Above everything else, Lenny was easy to connect with and has an energy that is contagious!

Freedom Films was the best videographer we have ever dealt with. Flora is exceptionally creative and executed exactly what we communicated to her. Our celebration was captured precisely as we envisioned. She was on time and stayed later than contracted; enthusiastic about and during our event, produced a finished product that was beyond our expectation and the most reasonable videographer we have ever dealt with. Her editing skills are of the highest quality and she even retrieved pics from our photographer to add the perfect touch to the video. We have used several videographers in the past but definitely have no need to use or search for anymore. We intend to engage her for 2-3 more events we have next month, this Summer and Fall. We give Flora of Freedom Films a 10 out of 10. A phenomenal job done by an extraordinary person!

Amanda is an amazing photographer and videographer. Her photographs were stunning and original. The pictures of our products for my family's business were exactly what we needed! She has a keen eye and sense of style that has promoted our business to the next level. As a videographer, she was extremely professional. The end product was above and beyond what we hoped for! On a personal note, I had a lot of fun working with Amanda! She is a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend her!!

As a newcomer to wedding videography, Nathan and 360! Productions did a very nice job on our video. They prepared a 4-5 minute highlight video of the wedding/reception that truly captured the essence of the event. We decided late in the process to get a videographer so we did not have high expectations. The highlights video met our needs. The raw footage, the second deliverable of the contract did not have the flow desired of the wedding itself. The wedding is a series of clips v. a full video of the wedding. Nathan had 2 videographers. They were both professional and on time.

I CANNOT say enough good things about James Friel. When I started looking for a videographer for our wedding, I only found incredibly expensive fancy videographers, or not-very-cheap-but-pretty-cheap low-quality ones. I wasn't sure what to do. At the time, I thought I was taking a chance on James. His videos looked good, but he does this on the side for fun! And the price seemed too good to be true. We didn't talk much before the wedding day, and I wasn't sure what to think. But he showed up exactly when he was supposed to on the wedding day, and even had a second videographer with him. He was kind and respectful and easy to communicate with, and totally understanding. And then he produced THE MOST INCREDIBLE HIGHLIGHT VIDEO FOR US. I cannot tell you how much I love this video or how much he captured exactly the spirit and feel of our wedding day. I will cherish this video for the rest of my life. You cannot do better than James Friel (and on top of that, what amazing value for what you're paying!). In addition, talk about going above and beyond — we were having a second reception in my hometown (since we didn't get married there), and we needed the video to be produced in two weeks so we could show it at the second reception. Not only did he produce it in plenty of time (and have it still look amazing), but he did so EVEN THOUGH he had been in the hospital during part of that time. That is unbelievable professionalism and dedication, combined with a lot of care. I highly recommend James Friel to the the videographer for your wedding!

John Morgera recently assisted us with a corporate video shoot and franchisee interview at a car-repair shop and he did a tremendous job. Based on my experience, he is a talented videographer who sets very high standards for himself, hits his deadlines, routinely goes above and beyond what is required and is wonderful to work with. The work he turned in was impressive and his fee was competitive. He's also a really nice guy. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.

Matt was very easy to work with! If you want a videographer who is barely scene, friendly, and does nice work, call Matt! We asked for specific things to be recorded at our wedding and he did a fantastic job. We wanted an unedited video kind of like a family member was taping it and that's exactly what Matt provided! We didn't want the short 10 minute wedding video set to music. Great work!

Mike Gilley is an excellent videographer, one that understands the concepts and ideals of cinematography, composition, and production value. Mike was hired through my multimedia studio to film many hours of summer camps for a local college. These videos would go on to be the marketing and promotional materials that the college have since shared through social media, television commercials, and web campaigns. Without Mike's great technique in filming and understanding of the project at hand, my job editing and putting together an amazing marketing campaign for the college wouldn't have been as easy or fruitful. On a side note, he is also great at video editing as we've worked together on projects many of times before. Usually, I love the editing part, but he also has a great understanding of Adobe Premiere, among other Adobe Creative Suite Programs. If you are looking for a great videographer, I highly suggest Mike for the job.

CineMavericks Media were the videographers that we hired for our wedding in October 2012. I can not say enough about this company, from start to finish Brad and Pat were not only flexible but professional and just plain FANTASTIC to work with and their prices are very reasonable. I never had to worry about a thing because they had everything taken care of which made things extremely easy for this stressed out Bride! On our wedding day, they were so awesome and virtually invisible and yet they were there and doing an amazing job the whole time. Our finished product was BEYOND what I could have EVER dreamed of, it's not just a "DVD" of your wedding it's like your watching a movie production that is your wedding day...simply AMAZING!! Take it from me, your wedding day is a total blur so it's very important to capture those memories and these gentlemen are absolute professionals in doing so! Don't hesititate to use this company, you WILL be happy!!

Black Umbrella was both our photographer and videographer this summer! Not only were the pictures and video BREATHTAKINGLY beautiful, but Luis and his crew were such great people to work with. 99% of the time my husband and I cannot capture a good photo of us, but Luis' personality kept us smiling naturally throughout all of the shots. I really can't express how grateful I am to have had Black Umbrella capture our special day. From the initial consultation, he was so professional and prompt with getting back to me. He made me feel 100% stress free with the photography/videography aspect of our day. I really cannot find other words to describe my experience other than everything over all was amazing. I have been recommending Black Umbrella to everyone since!

I've worked with Bill on several video related projects. Some were very small but a couple were pretty large projects. Bill demonstrates a keen eye for detail and attentive ear to the personal aspects of the project. Whether working on a small or large project, these qualities were evident in the final product. I love watching our family photos and old videos that have been pulled together on DVD with music which makes them such fun to watch. One of the bigger projects Bill did for me was my Dad's 80th Birthday Party. He blended the old photos of my Dad through the years with some family videos as well as capturing some landmarks from his hometown. The actual party video was the best. I still wonder how Bill could spot something like a Birthday hat and figure out how to work it into the video with the whole family - so cool. My Dad filled up with emotion when he saw the final product. If you have special pictures/videos that you want on DVD or a special event that you want to capture and be sure to watch over and over, you need a special videographer like Bill Bardell. I highly recommend him!

I hired a photographer/videographer for my niece's wedding and although I believed his work to be exceptional. I was completely unaware that I would have raw footage. This is where Jasmin came into play. I sent her everything I had and she edited it to perfection. She really brought the footage of my niece's wedding to life and I look forward to hiring her as a photographer for future venues!

Rob Manley is a pleasure to work with. He was the videographer for my mother's 60th surprise birthday. The way he edited and put special moments in the right place made it extra special. I couldn't have picked a better company or asked for a more professional videographer. We will definitely use XsportR for services in the future.

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

            • Package 1: $1,400
              • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
              • Two cameras with audio equipment.
              • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
              • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
            • Package 2: $1,800
              • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
