Philly Pretzel Factory engaged Moore Cleaning Solutions to clean and maintain three of our stores in Gilbertsville, Phoenixville, and Quakertown. MCS was extremely professional with their approach and execution of their duties cleaning our ovens, aluminum freezers, stainless steel countertops, tables, ceramic tile floors and grout, stripping and finishing our VCT tile floors. Moore Cleaning Solutions price was competitive and their results are excellent. In addition to cleaning, MCS also trained our team on managing the cleaning maintenance of our stores as well as proving us with thought leadership processes to help us maintain a consistently clean appearance. We were very pleased with MCS work and enjoy working with the company.

Kevin installed two bathroom light fixtures and one was particularly tricky to install. He did amazing job and I couldn’t be happier. I also had Kevin look at some upcoming project ideas: refinishing kitchen cabinets and putting in backsplash tile. His quotes are reasonable and fair. He really knows his stuff. I’m looking forward to having Kevin do more work for me in the future.

From the moment I spoke to Geno, I knew he was the guy I wanted to work with. My pavement was damaged by a tile contractor and I needed a quick repair as it impacted my drain pipe. Geno was quick to respond to my request, assured me it wouldn't be a problem and had a quote to me the next day. Other contractors said they wouldn't be able to look at it for a few days, let alone do the job. Geno and crew showed up bright and early one morning, did the job with minimal noise and debris and did a thorough job of cleaning up when done. I would definitely use them again for any concrete work I may have.

Will has done numerous jobs for us- he redid our kitchen (floor, paint, cabinets, and mosaic tile backsplash), retiled our fireplace, redid our bathroom (floor, paint, and installed new sink and vanity), among other projects. He is honest, fair, and reliable. I recommend him to all of my friends and family.

I hired Eric to replace the tile in my shower floor and three tiles on my backsplash, and ended up having him repair my porch, replace the basement floor, repair window screens, cut several needed access panels in walls, install a backflow valve, and a few other odd projects. He and his worker show up, work hard, and thoughtfully consider each project. Once we sell this house we look forward to hiring him again for projects on our next home.

Ace replaced my kitchen tile. It was a hard job because they had to tear out the old tile first. They did an awesome job and stand behind their work. We still smile at our beautiful floors every morning, because of the care an attention to detail they put into their work. You will not go wrong hiring them. Oh, and their price was really fair too.

Lisa at Polish and Shine House Cleaning gave me a very good price and accommodated me very fast. I called her first on Saturday and left a voice mail, she called me back on Sunday, and I scheduled her for Monday afternoon. She promptly arrived and cleaned my 2 bedroom 2 bathroom house very fast, in 2 hours. It was not the most detailed and deep job, there was some dust left on the floor and some old dirty spots on the kitchen tiles were not removed. I wouldn't qualify it as a deep cleaning, but it was a decent job for the price. She did not empty trash bins, but we did not discuss it in advance. What we discussed was cleaning the oven from the outside and she did it very well. She also brought her own supplies, including paper towels, I did not need to give her anything. I was satisfied with my experience overall, but I would go with someone more detailed and deep next time even if it costs a bit more.

PenVal did a fantastic job on our bathroom renovation project. They upgraded the sink, vanity, did a super job on the floor tile as well as the shower tile. The new shower and fixtures look amazing. The PenVal workers were courteous, protected our hardwood floors and cleaned up their work space everyday. They were a real pleasure.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
