The service that Pick Up Movers, and specifically the relocation specialist Pierre provided was superb. They quoted a flat rate up front, arrived on time, disassembled and assembled all the large items, and worked diligently. No surprises!

I originally contacted Thumbtack and D&D Waste Removal to haul away construction debris from the bathroom we planned on demo'ing ourselves, plus some carpet remnants, AC unit, etc in the garage from earlier projects. On the phone, Del advised that they also do demo work, and that he could come by to give us an estimate. Our appointment was over a week in the future, and he missed our original (late afternoon) scheduled time, but quickly offered to come early the next day to provide the quote, which he did. Knowing we were in a time crunch, he called back later and offered a flat rate to include everything and said he could start that evening. His crew arrived, and worked hard to finish the bathroom demo and haul away all that we had. Del and his crew were polite and respectful, and did a great job on the work we contracted for. Even the payment process was simple and efficient! Potential clients should realize that the very nature of the hauling business includes some time variables such as jobs being bigger than folks tell them, junk yard and/or traffic delays. So, allow some wiggle room in your appointment time, and you won't be disappointed!

Initially I was very upset with a no show and not even a phone call, on Friday. However, when I called the owner, Mr. Martinez that afternoon and resent a copy of our texts scheduling the work, I being correct he bent over backwards "to make it up to me." Really! he personally arrived Tuesday afternoon, the best time for me, with two of his seven women and they all worked efficiently to do an intensive, move everything, dust every knick knack, nook and cranny job per my request. Mr. Martinez obviously has a lot of experience and the tools for all sorts of cleaning situations. He (Elvis) even said he did windows. So he did my five worst while he was here at his fixed rate per window. I have scheduled an every two week maintenance job and the rest of the windows with him now.

I hired OnTheRoadAgain LLC because they had the lowest rate. Despite of this I couldn't ask for better service! I only had contact with the mover through Thumbtack as I am in a differed country. I got pictures of the boxes that were being moved both before and after the move. They also offerd receiving payment through PayPal, which was perfect as I don't have an American credit card. All in all they did a perfect job!

Well to be honest I didn't use them because of a schedule conflict. At any rate I still wanted to say they were beyond friendly and really tried to accommodate my schedule. They answered every question and were very attentive to me during the process of booking.

We had not heard of this company before so I was a little apprehensive, however right from the first call I was very impressed. The woman I spoke with on the phone was very courteous and actually listened to my concerns, and explained to me step by step all the precautions that would be taken when moving my belongings. My wife has an extensive art collection and they handled it beautifully. The gentlemen that came to our home were punctual and professional. Overall we would rate this experience as excellent and will definitely recommend Mooove it Moving & Storage in the future.

Super responsive when trying to decide what services I would need & making sure I understood the total cost of everything. They arrived on time. Everything was handled with care. I had some wooden pieces that suffered no damage. Despite of the rain they worked as quickly as they could & I still remained in budget. They had the best price than any other company I received quotes from. Was concerned at first because some of the larger companies who gave me an in-home estimate ($800-1100+), all advised to be careful with companies charging lower rates because the quality isn't there. I must say I'm glad i didnt listen & i couldn't be more pleased with the professionalism & quality of their work. I would highly recommend them & also use them for any future moves.

Moved on Friday, April 22, 2016. I was looking online and found thumbtack and started getting quotes for our move. We had several companies provide us quotes and found Moolex to be more than competitive and they even agreed to a flat rate so there was no mistake on what the job would cost. They arrived early and in addition to th move I decided to pay them to pack up our place. These guys worked hard and made our move super easy. Great job, worth every penny. Already enjoying our new home in half the time thanks to Moolex.

My roommate and I decided to move in together after finishing college. We even found ourselves an affordable apartment. The last issue was how to move the only things we own. Hiring a moving company is expensive and we just didn’t have the money. My father talked to Progressive relocation systems which gave him a very reasonable rate. My father agreed to pay half the moving cost and we were just so happy about it. We didn’t own much but the crew arrived on time and packed whatever we had in just half an hour. I understand that the company has a two hour minimum policy but they really bent the rules for fresh graduates like us. All our stuffs were delivered on the same day and they arrived to the building before we did. I think these guys operate with military precision in every sector and that’s what separates them from the rest. They are definitely worth hiring again.

David has a unique and wide array of available services, and I was truly grateful for his help with the organizing and moving that I needed. He is a true professional, and while we had a short amount of time for the project, he got it done in a timely manner, without making me feel pressure or stress. He went above and beyond his task to ensure that everything went smoothly. All in all I was very happy with David, and plan on having him help me finish organizing. What started out as a frighteningly huge ordeal for me became an amazingly easy move. I can't say enough how much his help is appreciated and recommend him 100%!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.
