Buffy did a fantastic job helping us combine two households (and a lot of years 'collecting') into one home that is organized, streamlined and even has empty drawers/cabinets now (my goal)! She is easy to work with, kept up a fast pace, and had some solid suggestions about how to deal with 'high disorganization zones'. I highly recommend Buffy for anyone looking to get rid of stuff or clear the clutter--she makes it less painful with her sunny personality and sense of humor (even when mine was waning). She is also great at calling the shots and making a plan--when we started my husband and I were overwhelmed by the huge task ahead, and she broke it down into manageable pieces with VISIBLE progress at the end of every session. Getting the before and after pictures at the end of a day really let us see how much we really had accomplished. Want to get out from under the clutter, or organize your house? Call her!

I hired Melanie to help me organize my home office. She showed up on time and we really made headway her first day here! I had only intended to use her to help organize my clutter but while chatting, I realized I needed some accounting help for my new business so she also helped me establish Quick Books. Since she owns her own business, she is very knowledgeable regarding the in/outs of getting started, which I greatly appreciated. She is very friendly, professional and efficient at getting the job done. So much so, that I plan to use her again for organization of my laundry room. Thanks Melanie!

We are in the process of selling our home and felt completely overwhelmed with all of the details that needed to be taken care of. We are so fortunate to have contacted Julie first! She helped us save a bunch money by helping us focus on what was really important. Between staging and home decorating, Julie really found the balance in making our home what we wanted, as well as appealing to potential home buyers. She has a great vision and ability to really see the "big picture" and truly alleviated all of our concerns, especially since this was our first time hiring a professional decorator. Our home looks so amazing we are thinking of postponing selling it at this time. Thank you Julie for your patience with us and giving us a second chance at enjoying our home! Highly recommend JW Décor for home decorating, staging and consultation before beginning any home renovations!

I was an office manager for a fairly large cleaning company in Kissimmee. After having an accident I needed a cleaning company other than the one I worked for because my home was out of area. I'm sure you all know how nerve racking it is to find somebody to connect with on the phone. Most of the companies I called sounded like used car salesman. After leaving a message for Alison she promptly returned my call, not only was she very professional but her persona very soothing. Alison has now been cleaning my home for approximately a year and does an excellent job not only with cleaning but with her organization skills. I also had the pleasure to meet her employees who were also very professional If you're looking for a company that goes the extra mile no need to search any further. Thank you Alison & Staff

Our designer, Wendy, was very helpful, patient, responsive. I have used several designers for various home renovations in the several cities where I have lived. Thus I know a bit about working with architects and interior designers. I liked her suggestions and thought she demonstrated excellent knowledge and capability.

I solicited the home staging service, to help sell my parents home which was somehow cluttered & outdated. They offered a pretty interesting deal in organizing, paint & furniture staging. I was very pleased with the bundle and outcome. Its so much easier working with 1 person other than various contractors. I'm so sure we got a deal. MW.

We were looking to sell our current home and the issue of having the house staged was brought up. At first i was skeptical and thought i could do it myself. I am glad that i did not! We brought on Ann to look at the house and the different ideas she had were ones We never thought of. Ann ended up staging our house and created a home. She did an exceptional job with everything and was a true professional. She is also very friendly and easy to get along with. I would highly recommend Ann and hey company for any staging and will hire her again in the future!

Dina helped us stage our home for a Tour as well as help us with selecting furniture for permanent use. She has a great eye for detail. She also helped us redesign our rooms using existing pieces that we thought should be removed! Her space planning and ability to work within a modest budget were excellent. She is very creative and a pleasure to work with.

I hired Nicole to do some personal shopping and staging for my home while I was out of state. Not only does she have an eye for design, she also knows how to find quality pieces at great prices. The best part of the experience was seeing how she placed everything and the feeling she created. My home felt so much better and more comfortable after she worked her magic. Would hire her again! Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does it mean to stage a home?

Home staging is the real estate strategy of decorating your home to be as marketable as possible to your target demographic. Home staging is done by interior decorators and other design pros hired by the homeowner or realtor, prior to putting a house on the market. Think of it as setting the stage for potential buyers to fall more easily in love with their future homes — and to spend top dollar to get them. It’s likely to be worth the investment: The Real Estate Staging Association reports that staged homes spend 90 percent less time on the market than those that are not staged. Home stagers can also be hired even if you’re not going anywhere. Stagers can consult on new layouts for your current home, much like an interior decorator.

Home staging can take place while you still occupy the house you plan to sell, or when the home is vacant. For an occupied home, the home stager will clear out clutter, rearrange furniture, and bring in decor and furniture as needed to create the perfect environment. Usually an occupied home has far too much of the current owner’s personality stamped on it, which makes it hard for prospective buyers to envision themselves living there. A home stager should neutralize and beautify the space. In vacant homes, a home stager will bring in furniture and decor so that potential buyers don’t walk into an empty house, which can be equally hard to imagine living in as a cluttered, occupied home.

How much does it cost to stage a home for sale?

Nationally, the price for home staging ranges between $750 and $1,500. The price varies based on how many rooms in the house need staging, whether furniture and decor are needed or the stager can work with the client’s belongings, whether the home is occupied or vacant, and the sale price of the home. Occupied homes typically cost less to stage as they are already furnished, and can require less time and resources than staging an empty house. The main tasks when staging an occupied home are rearranging and decluttering. Staging an empty house can be more expensive as furniture and decor need to be trucked in, requiring transportation, physical labor and potential rental fees. Here are some examples of average home staging costs:

    • 2-hour consultation: $200, includes DIY tips and guidance.
    • 1- to 2-hour consultation and design session: $250, including written report.
      • Additional design consulting: $65 per hour.
    • 8 hours of staging an occupied home: $800.
      • Hands-on staging involving moving furniture, hanging and moving art, and decluttering.
    • Starting price for staging a vacant home could be $2,200.
    • A home stager may charge 1 percent of the home’s selling price.
