Marcos did an excellent job removing old kitchen back splash tiles and tiling new one. He also traded out dated pot lights & installed new LED pots in the kitchen & added dimmer switches. Looks great! He came at the scheduled time & finished within his estimated time line. He charged what he estimated; no additional fees after the fact. The workmanship was great! And they actually cleaned up after themselves as if they had not even been there - bonus! For what it is worth, in the last 5 years, we have renovated & sold our residential home back north 3 times & so have had quite a bit of experience working with sub contractors; some times, you just want to pull your hair out!!!! Working with Macros was a welcomed experienced. Thanks again, Marcos!

I was ready to just pull everything up and put down shell or stone, I was so upset over many years going through different lawn management companies. My yard looked terrible, plants were suffering and the other companies would literally cut, blow and go cutting my grass down to dirt. John came in and rescued everything giving me several options. The value of my home has risen with landscaping and lawn care and I love my yard again. He is extremely knowledgeable in lawn and plant care for this region. He works with his crew, listens to what you want and explains what will work and what won't so you don't spend money foolishly. He has a strong morale work ethic. I am extremely happy and highly recommend him. Kris

I would give Full Force Landscape Management 10 stars if you had that option. Michael and his crew did exceptional work, they were very professional and punctual. Originally we had them put sod in our yard. I did not ask for the top of the line sod, however they treated me as if I did. Many of our neighbors have commented how great our lawn looks. We later decided to hire them to do our lawn maintenance. They are a long standing local company and a family business. Do yourself and your wallet a favor when you need landscaping and give Michael a call at 813-966-1469.

Given that we have such a large facility, we have had many landscapers perform work over the years. This was by far the best company I have ever worked with. We needed a new Memorial Garden and Robert came out personally to make his recommendations and guided us through the process. It was so refreshing to find a company that performed such an important job with professionalism and grace. I highly recommend Robert Draper, Inc. for your business or residential landscaping needs.

Tampa Landscapes provided us with a in depth proposal explaining the cost and the scope of work to be performed. Jimmy Dennis used his expertise to design an affordable complete landscaping program that will be easy to maintain in the shade or the sun around our whole house. Even though Jimmy had his back to the wall to get the project finished by Thanksgiving as proposed, he succeeded. I would recommend Tampa Landscapes to anyone that needs help getting their yards and outdoor living areas in order.

I was beyond thrilled with Suncoast Landscaping. From the first meeting with Nicole to the completion of the project, every step of the way was completed in a professional, knowledgeable and meticulous way. Nicole came out to measure the area to be landscaped, to find out what I had in mind and to give me suggestions on what plants would work. By the next day I had a schematic of the area complete with plant placement and pictures of the suggested plants. She worked with me to make slight changes in an attempt to fit my budget. Steven and Cameron were perfectionists. They took great care in preparing the area, laying down the dirt and digging the holes for all the plants. They worked with me on rearranging some plants. Once the plants were in the ground they added the pine bark. They worked their magic and I couldn't be happier with the results. I would highly recommend Suncoast Landscaping to anyone who wants a job well done. I have already hired them again for additional work.

I was concerned because it seemed as though an excessive amount of water was coming into my sump pump well. There was also a low spot in the yard where water pooled. Dennis and his crew found a major leak in the pipe that collects water from the gutters and sump pump. They repaired the leak and installed a French drain to further drain water away from the house. They also placed a drain in the low area. Huge improvement! Dennis really knows what he's doing and everything was done professionally, courteously, and ahead of schedule. If in the future I have landscaping needs or drainage issues, I will call Allscape Patio and Landscape.

We hired Adam after looking for a tree service for our palms, oaks and other trees. Adam came out for a quick and free estimate and ending up giving us a great rate. He brought suggestions based on experience and it was clear he was passionate about what he does. He knew so much about our trees and how best to trim them and make them look their best. Adam and his crew arrived even sooner than they said they originally could. They were amazing and took excellent care of our trees and landscape. We will use them again next year for the same service and I would happily recommend them to anyone looking for an experienced tree service.

"I am very satisfied. You don't always get everything, but usually by the time I notice you have missed something you get it the next time. You are a bit pricey, but of the three companies that I have hired for my lawn care since I have lived at my house you are by far the best."

I needed four very large trees removed from my home. I met with seven different tree removal companies and received quotes from five. When it comes to tree removal, finding an honest company is difficult. Many are shady and willing to cut corners to just get paid. When I met with Kenneth with Triangle, it took me 5 minutes to know this was the right company. He is a certified Arborist, he took the time to listen to what I wanted. He spent 30 minutes in my back yard taking notes and measurements. He emailed the estimate same day. We scheduled the dates for the job and he did not push me to do anything I did not want to do. He even came back out to meet me and go over all parts of the job that would be done so there was no question. The job done was hands down, excellent. Zero issues. I highly recommend this company. As you receive quotes for jobs you need done, this company has to be one that you call - you will see just as I did this company is class A rated. I am also a local law enforcement officer in Pinellas County.

I reached online for a resodding project. I got a few responses and estimates. Chuck, with Palmetto Mimi Skid Steer Landscaping Services immediately stood out from the others. He was quick to respond, and knowledgeable on completing the resodding project. His prices were fair and comparable to the the other estimates. However, his professionalism and immediate attention to meet a very short deadline was a lifesaver. His concern and dedication to finding the right sod during a very rainy period proved top notch customer service. The job was completed quickly without cutting any corners. He and his son (who also owns a landscaping business) went above and beyond to do the a GREAT JOB... and they did! I would definitely recommend this company.

Oh my gosh I had such a great experience with Greenbrook! Brett is so easy to get ahold of and made me feel so comfortable through the whole process, I was nervous because I had a walkway, landscaping, irrigation, and fencing installed but that worry was short lived after meeting Brett. His team is so experienced and really know what they are doing, and they truly seem to be committed to Greenbrook and producing the best possible result, which is exactly what I got! My mother also had her back patio done by them and she feels the same way.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer โ€” whether an interior designer or a landscape designer โ€” does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work youโ€™d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; youโ€™ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the stateโ€™s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly โ€” though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value โ€” so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, youโ€™ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.
