I really liked Yanier. He is an electrician by training - with some course study in HVAC repair. He was timely and professional. There were some language barriers as I am not fluent in Spanish but we were able to move forward. I would definitely use his services as an electrician. The only negative is that he didn't have the contacts on hand to get a part I needed but We were able to resolve that through my contacts. His price was fair- it took him a lot longer to complete the job because he didn't have the contacts to get a particular part but he only charged me for his actual labor time and not the time he spent looking for the part. PS Yanier if you are reading this- I am writing it with the intention of it being a positive review .

BEING A FIRST TIME USER OF THUMBTACK (AND IF MARDEY'S APPLIANCE REPAIR IS THE CALIBER OF CLIENTS THEY HAVE ON THEIR LIST) I AM SOLD FOR LIFE! I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH HOW WONDERFUL IT WAS TO HAVE THEM RESPOND SO QUICKLY WITH TOP-NOTCH PROFESSIONALISM, GREAT SERVICE (ACTUALLY KEEPING TO SCHEDULED TIME FRAME) AND HONEST DETERMINTION OF THE PROBLEM...NOT TO MENTION THEIR FAIR PRICE FOR PARTS AND LABOR. IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF AN APPLIANCE REPAIR MAKE SURE MARDEY'S IS PUT ON YOUR "SPEED DIAL"

Joseph was above and beyond all expectations. He was very easy to communicate with before, during, and even after my repair. He diagnosed the problem with my dishwasher quickly, ordered the part and had it installed as soon as he got it. Prompt, very personable, professional, and more than fair with pricing- he is definitely my new appliance guy!

One thing I’ve discovered: it’s nearly impossible to find a reliable and competent appliance repair company. So this find is a major score! Junior from Smart Tech came to diagnose our broken dryer this morning. He was prompt, extremely knowledgeable, and honest. Even though he needed to order a part, he called me later the same day to say he had tracked down the part locally and could return to complete the job! He went above in beyond in every way. I’m happily getting caught up on laundry now. Thank you, Smart Tech and Junior!

Ultimate Appliance repaired my dishwasher in a very professional manner. When the first repair did not work they returned the following day with a different part. They installed the new part without any extra charge. This impressed me. Will use them again if any other appliance breaks.

Great job! One of our tenants had a pilot light out on their water heater and was unable to get it re-lit. Your Repair Specialist coordinated the time with the tenant, came out the same day, diagnosed the issue, and repaired it all within the service call timeline! They made this an easy problem to fix which is good because I was 1,000mi from the issue. Matt

Ariel does not usually service my area. However, he was able to come down and conduct a diagnostic at a very reasonable price for my drying machine. He was able to accurately/quickly determine that the issue was not the machine. Rather, it was an issue with the home electricity. I was able to call an electrician and saved hundreds of dollars by not having to purchase a new drying machine.

Andy was very hard working at trying to resolve our refrigerator issues. All said and done he gave his honest opinion to get a new appliance vs spending so much money on fixing via his service. He was punctual and made us a priority when he had to come back the next day. Totally recommend!

Jonathan repaired a large hole in a ceiling we have in a hallway of the house. He had finished patching up the hole in a matter of minutes his experience with dry walls shows. Jonathan went out of his way when I mentioned that I had two other smaller holes in the dry wall and without hesitation he patched them up for me without charging me extra, I really appreciated that from him and it shows his true character. A++++ highly recommend Jonathan and his team.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
