We had Carrie (iCare4Pets) care for our dog, in our home, when we were away for 7 days this past November. She came 3x per day to walk him, feed him, love on him. I cannot say enough good things about Carrie and her business. She is very responsible & reliable and truly loves dogs. You cannot ask for a better pet sitter! We will definitely use her again and will recommend her to everyone we know.

We were gone for 7 days over the New Year. Kim is very professional in her bearing and attitude towards the job. She has the ability to let animals feel unthreatened by her presence and all went well with our Scaredy-cat BOO! She was also great with sending us text messages to update us on her progress with BOO without us having to ask for the updates. We always worry about how our sweetheart BOO is doing away from mommy and daddy and to have a Catsitter who is sensitive to these needs and responds accordingly with the text updates is very important and valuable to us. When we know BOO is in good hands, we feel we can let go and feel relaxed that we have a very competent and caring pet sitter taking care of our BOO. FIVE STARS +!!!

We hired Pookie Bros to look after our pets while we were on vacation for Christmas. I had the opportunity to work mostly with Scottie, and he was so great. He came by to meet our pets (2 cats, 1 dog) and get to know them before we went on our trip. He came twice a day while we were gone and took care of everything at one flat rate (dog walk, cat litter, feeding, even collecting the mail). He also (patiently) answered my many text messages inquiring about my furbabies while we were away, and even sent me some pictures. When we returned home, the animals were clearly well cared for and the house was in good shape as well. I would 100% recommend Pookie Bros to anyone - they have been at it for many years and you can tell they are really passionate about what they do. It's also a great value compared to other pet sitters in Orlando!!!

My quest was to find a conscientious, relyable and detail oriented individual to be a home sitter for my husband and I. We live out of state and it is very important to me to feel I have a connection with someone I can trust. Jodie Gregalunas met those criteria and she is also a delightful person. I am very pleased with her and feel lucky to have found her.

Fantastic Experience with Amanda's Critter Sitters. We have 3 dogs and 3 cats that needed to be fed and let out over a long weekend away from home. Amanda was super friendly and did a great job at keeping us informed with photos throughout the time we were away. She is very relaxed and confident, which goes a long way in my book. Even though our dogs are super friendly, from the many photos sent to us - they acted like we werent even gone. 2 thumbs up for Amanda. I would not hesitate to use this service again.

    About

From the time I was little, I've always had a special bond with animals. My pet sitting began when I was dating a special ops cop with a police dog who didn't travel long distances. I gained special training and experience with that dog and the realization of the love I had for the job grew. Caring for other's pets is a special task, one that I take very seriously. For many, pets are their only children and I resonate with that and strive to do the best job I can and ensure the animals are looked after with love and responsibility.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
