Bruce, and his assistant Logan were excellent, and professional. it was very easy, and quick to set up the job. They showed up when he said they would. Did an excellent job cleaning A/C vents, ducts, and other parts that were part of the package deal. After job was done they cleaned up all debris left from the job, and put everything back where it was. It has been a couple of days since the work was done, and I noticed on the first day that the A/C ran more efficient, I didn't have to drop the temperature as low as I always did. I have been needing, and wanting to get this done for years, glad I found Bruce, and big thanks to Thumbtack for the help, great site.

Off to a great start... I called on a Friday 4/29 and had a complete system installed Saturday 4/30. Both units are extremely quiet and had my house back to cool in no time. Tommy was very helpful in making me feel comfortable with making the decision to do business with All Year Cooling not only for the equipment but the service (if needed) for many years to come. *****Highly Recommended*****

My AC was not heating up the air when switched it to heat. And I couldn't figure out why ... at 5pm on a Sunday after with the temp predicted to drop to 40 degrees in Broward. Air Repair responded in Thumbtack after I posted. Shalom said it might be a simple fix, in that response. I called him and he agreed to come out, and he was there in about an hour. Waw, this was Sunday evening around 6! Help within an hour! I had the panels for the air handler off because I was trying to fix it myself. Shalom asked a few questions, looked at the system, and then started to hone in on the thermostat ... that I had installed myself a year ago ... yep, that was the problem . . . bad wiring (but the thermostat's instructions told me to do that LOL)! So within 20 mins of being onsite, I had warm air! And no extravagant bill for unnecessary repairs (although my system is about 15 years old). Shalom was very prompt, professional, nice and he fixed it!!! And at a reasonable price too. I still have my arms and legs. Of course, I would hire him again and recommend him to others. Ty. Thank you Air Repair and Shalom. May G_d bless you for your great work in helping me out. Ty.

I had a great experience using Cool Air Supply, from corresponding about their quote to setting the appointment. Their team arrived on time if not a little early, they were personable, respectful and professional. They made recommendations but we're not pushy, they moved what needed to moved and cleaned up afterward. I could absolutely recommend this company for AC and Dryer vent cleaning.

24/7 AC South Florida Ducts is an exceptional service provider. I initially contracted them for insulation replacement, and ended up getting my ducts restored and a brand new a/c unit. Jeremy (the owner) did not try to sell me anything which I really appreciated. He just provided me information and offered a rate I couldn't turn down. Now my new house has a new air conditioning system with an incredible labor and part warranty. The crew was professional, considerate, friendly, and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend hiring SFD for all of your duct/ac/insulation needs.

Tony and Discount Cooling were fantastic. I called in the morning and they were instructive and friendly and they were there that same afternoon and fixed my AC with no issues and also helped explain how to avoid problems in the future. They went above and beyond and guaranteed their work. Highly recommended!!

A dream come true! Mike not only showed up on time but also a few minutes early. That was a relief when the morning heat increases as afternoon approaches. He could have made the problem more complicated than it was, and I wouldn’t have known the difference; his honesty and ethics are evident of his values. He fixed my air conditioner in about ten minutes and didn’t charge me one dollar more than “the bottom line.” Mike (CDG) is a man of honor, and I urge anyone in need to use his expertise to resolve their air conditioning problems. I was very pleased with the quality of service air conditioning Protech has provided for me. I originally found them online when I was trying to find a/c repair in Miami. The technician came in within the appointment time, and fixed the issue. They were super helpful explaining everything, and gave very good recommendations to help my a/c from breaking again and ways to save money. I am very happy with my A/C now and its cooling better than ever. Thank you guys!!

I was having a problem with my AC unit it was turning on but not cooling. A friend recommended that I call Quality Air of America he used them for a brand new install and was very pleased with there service so I gave them a shot. After speaking to David over the phone he was able to send a tech over the same day. This company is top notch my tech Willy was able to find the problem and got my AC unit cooling within an hour. He checked my AC unit and nothing was loose everything was connected properly and the unit should be working so he tried replacing my thermostat and within minutes I felt the cold air. Very professional and courteous. All that I was charged for was a new thermostat and for the service call. Thank you David and Willy from Quality Air of America.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

  • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
  • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
  • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
  • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
    • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
  • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
    • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
  • Your home has humidity problems.
  • Your home has excessive dust.
    • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
  • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
    • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
  • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
    • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.
