I was so impressed with C & J. They came out here promptly at 8am which is the time they said they would be here. They immediately got to work and the job they did was fantastic. They were here over 4 hours, bagged my leaves and there were plenty of leaves. Cleaned up the fallen debris from the palm trees and took everything to the curb and then had it carted away. I cannot say enough about them. They are efficient, clean, honest and very hard working. I will definitely have them here again. If you have yard cleanup or anything to do with the outside, please do not hesitate to call C&J. Thank you Jessica, see you again.

Completely impressed from the start with this company. I searched tirelessly for someone that had I and our large oak tree best at heart and finally found Joseph who is licensed and insured (which is crucial). . He was prompt and very professional. I ( and my husband) truly believe he has the best interest of not only the customer but the tree at heart. He is the best of the best and we will definitely be relying on him in the future. P.S. He trimmed our palm trees just out of the goodness of his heart with no charge. I haven’t found a company this good... ever! Please, please, please choose this company!!!

I hired Justin to chop down two 15 ft trees and to trim my palm tree. Justin responded timely to all my emails. We had to reschedule a few times due to the rain. Justin did the chopping and partial clean up on one visit and returned as scheduled to complete the clean up the next day. He was very professional and courteous. The only issue we had was that he forgot to include the cost of dumping the debris in his estimate. This could be beter addressed in the future by giving the estimate for labor as well as the estimate for the dump fees. I recommend Justin and will be calling him again to do more work in my yard.

The reason why I chose Larry's Tree Service and not the other four companies that came to give me an estimate is because: Larry was the only one that was upfront about not being able to cut my oak tree. He said it was not going to get permitted and I would get fined if I did cut it. (The other Tree Service guys kept trying to push us to cut the oak tree because "maybe or maybe not we would get fined" and another plainly said to me "you don't need a permit".) So, not only Larry was the most honest, but he also gave us a great quote. As for his work. He definitely did a great job. The oak tree is nicely trimmed, as well as some palm trees.....also, he cut down two big queen palm trees and grinded 13 stumps. We are very pleased and even my neighbors hired him. The ONLY criticism I would give is that both days that he came over, he said he would come early in the morning but didn't. So my days were thrown off. Regardless, I highly recommend and would definitely use him again. I'm telling you...you need to hire Larry!

We needed palm trees trimmed, viburnums along the front of property, and very overgrown viburnums in the back. I contacted T.L.C.Towles Lawn Care on Wednesday afternoon and explained I needed this done ASAP (having pictures for home sale) and he was there Friday morning ready to go. He was courteous, he did a very good job, the clean up afterward was great and all at a very reasonable price. I would definitely hire him again and highly recommend T.L.C.Towles Lawn Care for your outdoor cleanup projects.

Initially I thought Dan was the right pro for the job however upon hiring him I was disappointed with his lack of communication. He was schedule to show up at one time but didn't actually come until hours later, which would have been fine but at least a heads up would have been nice. Both days I had to reach out to him to ensure he was coming. Very unprofessional. He did finish the project on time however my reason for the poor review is the quality of the plants installed as well as what I deem as a lack of knowledge. He states the reason he was late one day was because he had to go to Tampa to get the plants because this nursery had the best plants. Before the plants were installed they looked half dead to me. Trusting his judgement I let him proceed without making any remarks. He told me to water the plants once a day for 30 days. After a few weeks some of the plants appeared to be dying. He mentioned that he guaranteed his work for 30 days. Well before 30 days I called to let him know that I was doing exactly what he instructed and the plants didn't seem to be thriving. He was in the area, stopped by and said it was normal for them to look like that. Thinking perhaps I didn't give them enough time I accepted that answer. A few more weeks went by and the plants are still not thriving. Frustrated and upset I contacted him again this time to request that the dying plants be replaced. He agreed to replace the dying plants. 2-3 weeks went by and I heard nothing from him. I reached out to him again to ask if he forgot about me. He stated he planned to come see me Friday. Friday came and went and I never heard from him. At this point I'm tired of trying to hunt him down to do what he said he "guaranteed" he would do. I feel like I was over charged and he didn't deliver. I would not recommend this landscaper. Now I have 3 dying plants (including one palm tree) that need to be replaced. The attached pictures are what the plants looked like no more than two weeks after install. This does look like high quality plants to me. Either he didn't know or didn't care. Had he have kept his word and replaced them this would have been a totally different review. I can look past being late and some of the plants not thriving, because perhaps that's out of his control but if you "guarantee" to do something, you should do it. I should have to wait a month and never hear from you. DO NOT HIRE HIM.

Paul (owner) provided a very competitive price (in comparison to 3 other bids I obtained) for the removal of 3 large, diseased holly trees including stump grinding. All work was completed in approximately 2 hours and my yard was left clean and all debris hauled away.

We hired Adam after looking for a tree service for our palms, oaks and other trees. Adam came out for a quick and free estimate and ending up giving us a great rate. He brought suggestions based on experience and it was clear he was passionate about what he does. He knew so much about our trees and how best to trim them and make them look their best. Adam and his crew arrived even sooner than they said they originally could. They were amazing and took excellent care of our trees and landscape. We will use them again next year for the same service and I would happily recommend them to anyone looking for an experienced tree service.

After 1 minute from when Tom and Ken showed up, I knew they were the company I wanted to move my tree. And they had it moved, and re-planted somewhere else on the property, in about half an hour. I will definitely hire them again, to trim my palms.

There may be other fine tree cutters/trimmers in Tampa, but in my case, Luis Guzman-Diaz is the only one I will ever need. Talk about prompt and efficient service...Within minutes of my request, he responded, went out to the property that very afternoon to make an evaluation, the next morning, was back and got the job done as promised plus more. His charges were very reasonable, he communicated every step of the way, he sent plenty of both before- and after-pictures (I'm currently out of state, so that help with the peace of mind.)...A true Professional. If all jobs could be handled this well, Life would be so grand!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
