Our recently purchased double-wide had been empty for awhile and needed lots of TLC. In addition to a thorough power-washing of our home and cleaning the gutters, Franco also repaired all lanai screens and many vinyl windows; reattached/replaced loose roof shingles; patched the shed roof; and did some cleaning of sinks and toilets to prevent mold. He was always quick to respond to emails and texts. (Since we were out of state for the entire process this communication was very reassuring.) A very fair and reasonable estimate was given and there were no unexpected charges. He completed the work within 2 days of our contacting him. Amazing!! Our home is beautiful and we can't wait to get down there to enjoy it! I highly recommend Franco for a professional job, well-done!

Thank you so much to SIR Home Improvement. This was the most stress free home renovation I have ever experienced. The process from start to finish was spectacular. I received a prompt response from Thumbtack. I called Felipe's assistant Mariah, she was very knowledgeable and polite. Since I know exactly how big the ceilings are, she was able to quote me right over the phone. She suggested I stick with Knockdown on the ceilings after the popcorn removal and I am glad I did! It looks GREAT. She was able to get me a materials list within about an hour, but told me not to worry about going to do the shopping because they even do that for me. Felipe texted me when he was almost to Home Depot. 30 minutes later I got a call from the ProDesk to pay for the materials. Felipe brought the materials to my house and gave me the receipt. Felipe, Matthew and Rick were very polite and professional. They really knew what they were doing. I have heard horror stories about contractors, but this company is more like a dream. Mariah, Felipe, Matthew and Rick are the best team I have ever worked with. I am so glad I decided to go with them. After the ceilings were done, i hired them to put up my privacy fence and to paint the exterior of my home. If you don't hire them you will be doing your self and your home a terrible injustice. THANK YOU SIR HOME IMPROVEMENT!! Sincerely Jocie Johnson

Nick has been over twice so far. He has done amazing work in a variety of areas: mounting TVs, installing outlets behind TVs so there isn’t wiring on the walls, bathroom fixtures, and fixing an old broken fence. Nick does great work, he works fast, and he has an amazing attitude. I highly recommend him!

Bill was very prompt and responsive. He evaluated our missing (Irma) fence section, measured, gave us options, then ordered the necessary fencing. He and his associate then did a great job putting in the replacement fencing.

I obtained 3 quotes to install a new fence and repair the old one. 2 Large Fence companies stated they could NOT repair the old fence as it was no longer made: this was not true and I believe they just wanted me to replace all the fence for a bigger profit for them. - Kenny was true to his word and was able to repair the old vinyl fence and replace the old wood fence with matching panels. - Kenny was very professional and friendly. - He was on time and did a Wonderful Job! - He cleaned the yard before he left and made sure I was satisfied with the quality of his work. I would definitely recommend Kenny to anyone who needed a fence repaired or replaced. Thank You so much, Kenny Debbie Butcher

Ruben is top notch. I had a ton of questions and concerns during my project. He answered everything and gave me piece of mind. I had ~200 liner feet of vinyl fence installed. The project took about three days with a bit of a rain delay mixed in. Despite the delay, Ruben personally came to the house late in the evening to finish the gate install and make sure that I was absolutely satisfied with the finished install. I could not have asked for a better customer service experience. Plus, the estimate was very reasonable. I had 5 other quotes, and NSJ was the most competitive and came with the best reviews. I would 100% recommend Ruben and his team, and will undoubtedly hire NSJ again if I decide to fence in the back property line. Thanks Ruben!

Jennex Fence installed a vinyl fence for us last year, and we couldn't be happier. Jennex was referred to us by some friends who had worked with Joseph in the past, so we gave him a call. He came out that afternoon, gave us a solid education about vinyl fencing, the options available, and gave us a quote that was more than fair. Just to compare prices, we called 2 other contractors to provide estimates. One didn't even show up, and the other one quoted us a price 50% higher than Jennex. We had Jennex Fence come out the next week, and his crew got to work. We have a huge yard, so the project took several days to complete. The new fence transformed our property - the neighbors are envious and are planning on having Jennex out next month for their yard. Thanks Again.

K and S Contractors did an outstanding job on completing my project. The work included installation of a large amount of plank flooring (laminate and vinyl) and painting. I added several additional items such as a wall repair, shelving and various other items. They made great suggestions for completion of the project. They were on time, professional and the finished result was outstanding. The original bid price was very reasonable and any add ins to the project were also priced at great rates. The finished project looks great and I would highly recommend this company to any individual looking for a contractor for a project. I plan on using them again for future projects. Sincerely, Judith C.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
    • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
    • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
    • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

    • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
    • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
    • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
    • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
    • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
    • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
    • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
    • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
