I design looked beautiful but the design didn’t fit my need and wasn’t practical for daily living. I feel like the designer wasn’t transparent about the pricing. I was told that I will be billed in $500 increments and my first bill was $1,300. This was for a first draft of a single great room. This was the design only and didn’t include any items. Any revisions would be more money. The experience was a complete waste of my money as I didn’t use any of the design elements recommended. I wish I did a google search prior to hiring MWS Interior design and learned that others had the same issue. Also, he isn’t responsive. It takes him a week to reply to an e-mail.Nov 15, 2019VerifiedMWS Interior Design's reply
You signed a contract and paid a deposit of $500. I did a rendering of the first floor of your new home and specified everything on the first floor and items for a second floor workout room in a spreadsheet. You spent a total of $1300. You and your husband were pleased with the 3D model and with all of the furniture and fixtures, paint, wallpaper and buildouts. Sorry that you feel responses were not timely. Not sure why you are writing this review six months after the fact on social media and not talking to me directly so I could accommodate you.
This was the first time I heard interior designer. We needed help with room dimensions in between the drawings and the feedback we were able to move forward on furniture, rug and other items for our living room. Highly recommendMay 17, 2018Verified
Mark has made my job so much easier to oversee the construction and design of the offices with outstanding taste and style. He was worth it and will continue to work with him....photos to add later not completed yet!Oct 15, 2016Verified
Reputable designer. Highly recommended.May 10, 2018Verified
Mark designed my beach house in a casual style but not the expected style. His take on it was that the way we entertained and our lifestyle. The color palette is great and so is the art and accessories. The overall house now feels and functions (we have storage!) like a home and not just a weekend place. He was also conscience of our dogs and cats. Mark is working on our other home to be ready for move in early 2016. budget 10-20kSep 24, 2015
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?$110 per pertinent hour and 5% commission over wholesale for items purchased. The hourly rate is for client meetings, sourcing, drawing, meetings with contractors. Not for invoicing and travel (within 25 miles). Pricing varies among projects - this is my RAC rate.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Ask questions and listen. Do you have photos of the spaces you want to change? What is wrong with the space(s) now and what would you like to accomplish? Is this your primary house? How many people live there? Pets? Favorite color? That type of discussion gets the ball rolling. Then, preliminary ideas are batted around to learn more about the customer and their lifestyle. The key is to listen and read between the lines. I develop a project scope and a spreadsheet budget. Then come the measurements and drawings for layout and for remodeling. Emailing design ideas and specific items for approval. Purchasing and remodel management is offered if a customer wants these services.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?LEED - I have been a LEED Accredited Professional for two years now. This is really important. For my commercial jobs it is required. Certification for residential jobs is coming. Healthy environments that also are more sustainable. I know about art - Art History and interiors of famous architects and designers. Classes in Furniture design, Fashion design and I have a Civil Engineering degree. I am also a Fine Arts Auctioneer. It all comes into play.
