I hired Scott to mow my yard. I picked them because of the intro and also the comments. I called him around 9-10 am on 7/29. He ended up being able to mow that afternoon which was great. I also hired him to replace a ceiling fan in a bedroom. He a great job with mowing and edging the drive way and back porch area. Better job then I do. He was very nice also. I would definitely use them in the future. The price was also great especially to replace the fan.

Dr. House, LLC. recently completed an exterior renovation of our home, including: Power Wash exterior of home, Driveway, sidewalk, and back porch, Remove and replace rotten T1-11 Siding; Remove, replace and calk cedar window framing; and apply premium exterior paint to our 2,700 SF home. Anthony Cespedes completed all tasks on time and within budget. We particularly appreciate that he carefully assessed our needs and listened to our suggestions. He also followed through with an inspection by the paint manufacturer -- extra assurance that the job was done properly and the factory warrantee will apply. Our home now looks like new.

Mark was able to provide a wide range of expertise on numerous issues I had regarding water intrusion problems. Not only did Mark repair extensive damage caused by a large roof leak, he was able to correct the non conventional issues that caused it. The scope of Marks work on my home covered Roof, drywall, interior and exterior paint, windows, doors, deck, and floors. Mark also devised a plan to regrade, and landscape my yard to provide relief of poor draining and water seepage into my home. Mark was able to use non conventional methods to alleviate issues that stem from poor construction done by a previous owner. Mark went above and beyond my expectations and was able to assist in providing a safer home for my family. Not only will I try to use Tivey Construction, Inc. for future projects, but I will recommend this company to my family and friends.

Let me begin by saying I have high expectations of everyone with whom I do business. Keith Scott met those expectations. I needed someone to build a wooden deck for my above ground pool and a patio deck as well. I found Keith Scott on thumbtack.com and he responded quickly and professionally to my request for an estimate of his services. His estimate was both fair and reasonable. Ultimately, Keith and his team built me an exceptional above ground pool deck and patio deck. He is very professional, timely, and clearly knowledgeable. I gladly recommend him here on thumbtack.com and to all my colleagues with whom I work in the Citrus County School District.

Virgil did a great job. He custom built me a covered dog run that was 50'x10'. He also added a ramp and a doggie door coming straight from my screened porch so my dogs can go out and use the run whenever they want. I was so pleased with Virgil I also hired him to complete the bedroom in my guest house. He did it under budget and it is great! I can't wait for my company to arrive!

Evans Carpentry did an outstanding job completing remodeling in my home. Projects completed include laying laminate flooring throughout my home, installing metal roofing, a kitchen makeover which included replacing an existing window, installing paneling, a new dishwasher, and Formica countertops, installing new exterior doors, and building a 10 x 20 deck that is 15' off the ground and has a metal roof, 20 step staircase, and beautiful railing.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

      Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
