FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Minimum Design Fee: $175.00 Projects priced according to level of complexity. You will obtain my best rates if we discuss your project in full and I can offer you a package deal, regardless of the time I put into its completion.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My process is to obtain as much information as possible about what you have in mind. I will need details such as the text, intended use, dimensions required for the finished calligraphy or design, and any design or visual ideas you may have. Examples of work that appeals to you from my website or elsewhere are very helpful. To obtain the best results I develop quite a number of draft designs. I select the best of these to send to you via email. Based upon your feedback, I complete the design and provide you the original or the digital files, per your request.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have nearly 4 decades of professional experience as a calligrapher and graphic designer. I am bilingual in Persian (Farsi) and English. I know a number of other languages and am familiar with the conventions for writing and calligraphy in all the scripts with which I work. In addition to my own knowledge, I work with a network of linguistic experts around the world to make sure that all work that I provide is 100% accurate. I hold degrees in History, Chinese Language and Fine Arts (printmaking) from Haverford College, University of Pennsylvania and the University of the Arts (Philadelphia, PA). I teach Chinese calligraphy at the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture and at Sweetwater Print Cooperative in Gainesville, FL and was previously Asst. Professor of Graphic Design at Drexel University. I teach Arabic and Persian calligraphy workshops at such venues as Florida State University, Valencia College and by invitation. I am grateful to the many teachers I have had, beginning with my training in Persian calligraphy starting when I was in the 5th grade. I continue to work with master calligraphers to better my craft, even as I guide my own students.
