A Paw Above has provided a dog walker for me for the past week since I injured my back. The dog walker is friendly and my dog likes her. Good experience overall. Very quick to respond.

Cliff has the perfect demeanor for being a dog training specialist....both calm and assertive (with pets and their owners haha). When we first met Cliff in 2009 we had a newly adopted 8 week old puppy with a lot of negative puppy behaviors. So many skittish, destructive and biting behaviors though that we were advised by two other trainers and a couple of family members to "give her back" to the pound and that she would be a potentially dangerous family dog to keep around and "unpredictable" around young children. Cliff provided puppy training to us over the course of several months and helped shape Maya into a more mellow young dog that year. After we had our son, Cliff returned to help make sure the transition went smoothly, that our dog Maya would know her place and be safe around the new baby, including practicing walking Maya next to the stroller and wagon and anything that could potentially make Maya react negatively. Cliff was fantastic and Maya has been an awesome family dog these past 7 years. Great on long car trips, mellow and tolerant of kid grabs on ears and tails, never growls or snaps when our 6 year old son or other small children would jump around her or touch her treats or food. We are so grateful that Cliff saved her from the pound round 1. Then after moving away to the D.C. area, and visiting our parents back in South Florida, Maya had a negative experience at a dog boarding facility in Palm Beach Gardens. She had been attacked (unprovoked at her last stay at a Dog boarding facility in Virginia requiring stitches, etc.) and we didn't realize that she had probably also been traumatized by this event and her next experience at a dog daycare might not be as enjoyable for her. She got into an altercation with another dog and one of the daycare handlers and was kicked out of the facility never allowed to return. I was told by the trainer there that it is "sad when a good dog goes bad". I was devastated!! Cliff came to the rescue again. He offered to immediately pick her up from me and board her for a few days while I visited with my parents and to train her while boarding and see if he could correct some of those nervous and potentially aggressive behaviors. He helped her work through some of those issues and took her into the community interacting with other people and dogs and she returned to us quite happy and like herself again. We are so grateful to have found Cliff 7 1/2 years ago and because of him we have the best, most gentle family dog we could imagine. SO glad he saw the potential in Maya and helped us through those negative behaviors!!

Very knowledgeable about unruly rescue young dog. Helpful advices. With construction going on in yard, they were able to board and train my puppy, who is so loveable but very energetic, and constant barking at construction activity. When I called for assistance, she came right away to pick up my puppy and board him so I could finish the construction in the yard without upsetting him.

I have known both Anna and Stephanie Christo for over 12 years. Even before they started Little Paws, I have first hand knowledge of their love and care for not only their animals, but others as well. On many occasions they have watched my three dogs while I have been out of town. My dogs received such good care with them that when I picked them up, I sensed they were reluctant to return home, which never happened when I picked them up after boarding at the Vet! I cannot say enough about the character of both Anna and Stephanie, only to add that South Florida is fortunate to have their pet sitting service located there! I have recently moved out of South Florida, but anyone who lives there and cares about their pets like I do should not hesitate to use their service. You will be glad you did!

Joyce is ABSOLUTELY amazing! So kind, detailed, caring... she went above and beyond all of my expectations and was delightful with my family. She taught our very young puppy so many tricks in just 2 weeks. She spent time with me alone and with my child to make sure we all know how to act with our puppy. She even got our dog extra food and we left with her training clicker and other goodies. I will absolutely use her to train our dog further and for boarding in the future. I highly recommend her!

We have known Yayquel for over 10 years. She had a special relationship with both of our older dogs, who boarded regularly where she worked. When our dog was 17, we knew she was not going to be able to board with a good experience, and we had JJ come to our home. The love, caring consideration and respect she gave to our "old dog" was amazing. We sent our Tessa to the Rainbow Bridge, and now she cares for our 12 year old rescue Border Collie. JJ knows dogs, and families and the concerns each of us may have while travelling. She will make your vacation or business or personal trip much less stressful and worry-free. Use her!!

Megan is exceptional. She has been essentially co-parenting my Puppy since I got him 4 months ago. She has house trained him and has helped educate an exceptionally vibrant Jack Russell Terrier. She is always extremely accommodating both in her training approach as well as in boarding him when I travel, many times on short notice. I would highly recommend Megan and I'm sure my dog Melo would as well based on his enthusiasm every time he sees Megan.

I've hired 5 Paw Pets, Inc. to walk my great dane puppies a couple of times a week to give my family and I a break after work since December, 2012. From the first interview, I was very impressed by their credentials and professionalism. They have excellent communication skills, flexibility, high standards they adhere to, and the staff genuinely love animals. Looking forward to boarding this month in their "cage free" environment. Love you guys!

My dogs love Tylie, you can tell she really cares about your pets. My older dog has visited TLC for some time now - for grooming, daycare and boarding. We’ve now taken our new puppy there for almost 3 weeks and we’re very happy with the progress she’s made so far! Tylie is not only training her during daycare, but she helps give us guidance on how to train her at home too!

Homestyle Dog Care is a home away from home for your furry loved ones. My 2 boys had a blast during their weekend visit recently. They got to explore the large backyard, "chat" with the other guests, and lounge on the plush, comfy couches. They were well taken care of by the staff and really didn't want to leave because they were having so much fun :). They are looking forward to their next stay already :)

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does boarding a horse cost?

Finding the right horse boarding location is a big step in a horse owner’s life. This will be the place your horse will live and where you will visit multiple times per week or even daily. The cost of horse boarding will depend on the level of service you desire, the location of the stables, and the luxury level of the property. Here are some examples of average horse boarding costs:

    • Overnight stabling: $30 per horse per night.
    • Partial boarding (owner feeds and mucks): $220 per horse per month, with a three-month commitment.
      • Administration of oral medication: $10 per dose.
      • Bandaging: $20 per event, plus cost of materials.
      • Trailering to vet if owner is unable: $25, plus $25 per hour to wait with horse.
    • Basic full boarding: $325-$350 per month per horse. Includes twice daily hay and daily stall cleaning.
      • Horse training: $20 per session.
      • Pasture turn out: $20 per session.
      • Blanketing: $1 per day/$30 per month.
      • Vet or farrier hold: $20. This means haltering the horse and standing with it as it receives treatment or shoeing.

Where can I board my horse?

You can board your horse at any barn or stable that provides horse boarding services. To find horse boarding near you, read reviews of area locations and speak with equestrian friends to find one with a solid reputation. Ideally, the location will be within a reasonable drive from your home or office. This is especially important if you are paying for partial boarding services and are responsible for feeding your horse and cleaning its stall each day. You may choose your boarding barn or stables based on the services they provide. Some offer more extensive amenities — at an added price — that reduce the amount of work you need to do to keep your horse comfortable. Consider whether you want training, blanketing, exercise and other perks in addition to standard offerings like hay and stable mucking. Your stable may have temperament requirements and proof that your horse has the proper vaccinations required by your state. This protects both your horse and the other horses in the stable. Many states require that locations offering horse boarding services have stable licenses that are renewed each year. Always be sure to enter into a clearly written boarding contract that will cover your horse and belongings in case of accident, and remember our tips for smart hiring.

    What is horse boarding?

Horse boarding is like rental housing for your horse. Horse boarding is helpful for people who don’t have the space or the resources to install and maintain a stable on their property. A horse can be housed in a barn with other horses and receive the care they need. Owners can visit their horse for riding, grooming, training, etc. Horse boarding services may vary based on the company and the price. Some horse boarders may offer short-term boarding of 24 hours to several nights for people passing through an area, while most offer boarding by the month for horses whose owners live in the area. There is partial- and full-service boarding, which indicates how much of the work of feeding the horse and cleaning the stall is the responsibility of the owner rather than the boarding barn. For an added fee, horse boarding can also include grooming services, riding and training, medication administration, and more.

To find the right boarding fit for you and your horse, make a list of your top priorities. These might include immediate access to riding trails, round-the-clock supervision, or a nearby or affiliated veterinarian. Always visit the site to learn exactly where your horse will be kept and whether the barn and grounds are in good condition. Read reviews, and always practice smart hiring. It’s also critical to sign the proper legal documents that protect both you and your horse, such as boarding agreements. Above all, make sure it seems like a place your horse will be comfortable between your visits.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
