In my opinion, the most crucial questions to ask yourself before contacting a professional would be. #1 Do I know what I am looking for?(Product,Color, finish, style) and #2 What type of flooring is going to work best for my needs? After those two questions are answered it should be just ironing out the details of your project to move forward with the best result possible.
