FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am always compliant with my continuing education requirements......but also am involved in constant learning and researching that exceeds those requirements; which now mostly involves advanced theoretical thinking regarding ALL things, including physiological, anatomical, environmental and nutritional aspects which impact health and well-being.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
This is a great question... and one which deserves an answer, as I believe the "reasons" for WHY a person decides to go into that line of work (outside of monetary considerations) is an important consideration. I worked for many years at Suncoast Osteopathic Hospital in Largo, Florida where I was the only Phlebotomist for the hospital on the daytime shift, and truthfully, I was very skilled at the art of drawing blood from patients. Now... One day when I was taking blood samples from an infant, one of the nurses who worked in pediatrics and knew my abilities said this to me: "It's a shame that with your palpation skills that you missed your calling"....and when I asked her what she meant by that, she replied "you should have been a Massage Therapist." At that time, I thought that one had to go to Europe to learn those skills (it was a LONG time ago!), but she told me that there was a school in Pinellas Park, and the very next day, I went to the school to "check it out", signed up and took all of my life savings to pay for the tuition.... and haven't "looked back" since! And that's my story.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
The vast majority of my clients initially visit me for problems of a physical nature, such as joint-muscle or mobility problems, pain or discomfort resulting from injuries or postural issues, to facilitate faster recovery following surgery....OR from a wish to continue to experience OPTIMUM LEVELS of health and well-being. I am also skilled at providing a soothing, relaxing and rejuvenating massage for clients who do not have "pain or discomfort" related issues, although this is not the primary focus of my practice.
