Greg did a great job! He was cordial and professional. He was a little later than expected and had to make a trip to a store to get parts, but both of those are understandable, and he was still able to repair our dryer in one afternoon. I would not hesitate to call him again, though I hope I don't have to!

Yalel is very professional, and knowledgeable. I did not tell him, but another company had previously told me that I needed a new control panel and thermostat, and wanted $700, to repair. Within 5 minutes, Yalel determined that the drain hose needed to be cleared. So far, all seems to be working fine. He saved me hundreds of dollars. I will definitely continue to use him for annual maintenance.

I thought this job was going to take all day but Ian did a great job diagnosing the problem & rectifying the issue in less than an hour. Very knowledgeable in his field & also let me know about some minor things which may require attention that he discovered during the initial repair. Very informative but not pushy AND he was on time! Would definitely use him again.

Tony came to the rescue over Memorial Day weekend. He showed up on time and went right to work. He explained what was wrong and went through two options to save me money. I've worked with big name companies and have always felt ripped off after. Needless to say I'll be hiring Tony for AC repair and maintenance in the future.

We hired Alex to repair a broken refrigerator and ice maker. Alex was very prompt and professional. Although the job required three visits (one for the diagnostic, one for the first repair and one for an unexpected third visit), Alex was quick to return and di not change his fee. I would hire him again.

Fabian was absolutely amazing! Extremely friendly and professional from start to finish. He came out on a Thursday evening when my AC completely died on a hot summer night. When my original repair company refused to come out unless we paid an insane amount of money, I looked up alternate companies and found DAS. Fabian came out when we needed him the most, and he carefully and skillfully repaired an issue that the original company had created. Needless to say, the other company is OUT, and Dignified Air Services, LLC is IN! Thank you, Fabian!

My Central Air Conditioner was NOT blowing the cold air that I am use to feeling during bedtime. When I woke up the next day the house is now the temperature of outside (Extra Hot). Ugh uncomfortable!!!! I reached out to my sister asking if she knows anyone who does A/C repair services. She referred me to Kevin. I contacted Kevin told him what I guess was the problem. Kevin came in the time he stated to me. He looked the unit over, took photos, told and showed me the problem and fixed what need to be fix. I highly recommend Kevin as you go to guy to resolve your AIR CONDITIONER PROBLEMS.

I had a buildup of gunk and dust inside my ductwork, every time i would get home my nose would start to get itchy . I tried everything from new cleaning products to special hypoallergenic filters you name it I did it. I called those other guys you know your w is hot guys. They looked around for about 10 min and recommend so much stuff I mean it was well over a few thousand dollars. I new My A/c system was less than 2 years old !!! They just wanted my money. Well a friend of mine recommend jesse. He came over and asked me what the problem was he inspected my system. He recommended a duct cleaning. I told him what the other guys recommended he said with all honesty your system is less than 2 years old what you need is a duct cleaning just think about what is lurking inside your ducts. my A/c system was new but my ductwork wasn't. . Safe to say to say jesse was right. he went as far as to build a special machine to really get inside of my ductwork at no extra charge . This guy is honest!! he really took his time to get to the root of my problem. From now on I only use him for all of my A/c needs

He checked every room in the apartment and made sure each room was getting air. He cleaned my A/c & coil and now the house feels nice and cozy.

Had a Thursday evening AC breakdown. Paulo and Naldo came out and identified the problem and were back first thing in the morning to finish off the repair. They were able to replace the fan motor which still was under warranty without any hassle. Highly recommend them.

Very professional and responsive, fixed our AC quickly and was very reasonably priced. Also offered us a maintenance plan that is priced extremely competitively, and gives us a little peace of mind that we are preventing unnecessary expensive repairs. Definitely recommend to all my family and friends in the southern Florida region.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

  • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
  • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
  • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
  • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
  • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
  • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
  • Cleaning and oiling the blower
  • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
  • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
  • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

  • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
    • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
  • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
  • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
  • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000
