They showed up more than an hour after the scheduled time. The entire move for my one bedroom house took 6 hours and 15 minutes... they took far too long to load/unload. A job that should have taken 4 hours tops ended up taking an additional 2.25 hours longer than it should have been. The total for this was $690!!! DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THEIR “DEAL” of $270/3 hours... it’s 270 for 3 hours then jumps to $119/hour... no wonder they take their time. After all was said and done they asked me for a tip!

I originally hired A+ Get Moving for to move me to a building directly across street from my former residence for Friday, September 4th. They qouted me a special rate of $270 for three hours of work, which is important (I'll go into further detail about this below). I made all of the reservations necessary for both buildings to ensure a smooth transition. A+ contacted me the morning of the move to advise that their truck had a mechanical issue, and they would not be able to complete the move. They offered to come on the following day at 5pm. As expected, I was unable to reserve the elevators because others were moving. While unforeseen things can happen, and I don't necessarily blame them for the breakdown, my plans were completely derailed. The move consisted of a queen bed set, dresser/mirror, three shorty wardrobe boxes, a small chair, dining room table and four chairs, two TV stands, two televisions, one large plastic tote, a medium-sized picture frame, and a three-tier shelving unit. I gave them 3-stars only on the strength of the movers' dispositions and responsiveness of the company to my questions/concerns. Otherwise, they'd be a solid 2 due to the classic bait-and-switch vibe I detail in the cons section below. Here are the pros and cons of A+: PROS: - Movers were very professional and courteous. - The movers wrap everything and are very careful. - Whomever you correspond with via Thumbtack is very responsive and timely. - The "special rate" for three hours beats most of the other quotes you will get for the same amount of time. There appear to be no hidden fees over and above that rate...as long as you stay within those parameters. CONS: - THEIR RATE IS NOT ACTUALLY $90 PER HOUR! DO NOT, I REPEAT: DO NOT GO OVER THE THREE HOURS. The $270 rate is an excellent deal, and you will be inclined to think that overages will cost you $90 per hour. Even A+'s banner states that their rate is $90 per hour; however, their real rate is $119 per hour! THIS IS NOT DISCLOSED UNTIL THE END OF THE MOVE! When the final tally was done and I saw the rate, I originally that it was a little elevated due to the fractional time, as the movers went just over an hour...NOPE! You will sign several forms at the inception of the move, but none of the documents will indicate that the hourly shoots to $119. All told, I spent about what I would have if I had opted use another mover, but with the added benefit of a wasted day and late arrival (see below). All of the other movers could have moved me on my original date, which I took off from work for, and freed up my Saturday for cleaning the old unit. BE WARNED! - The movers showed up over 40 minutes late due to an accident they encountered on the way to my move. Coupled with the cancellation from the day prior, this further added to my frustration level. Being that late caused several ripple effects, one of which being that the three hour window was shattered (your time begins after they arrive and brief you on the terms). UPDATE (9/20/2020): I was contacted by one of the movers shortly after my original review, and now, I see that there has been a response taking exception to my claim that I was not notified of the rate change prior to my move. Let me correct this claim: the mover did show me the overage rate after finally arriving. I must have completely dismissed it never thinking that my move would exceed the three hour window given the volume of the move and the distance of the drop point. I suppose that I was also looking to see if I initialed the agreement because it caught me off guard for some reason. However, I'm not above admitting when I'm wrong, and this is one of those times. I sincerely apologize for the oversight and for any negative impact this point had on the movers. With that said, I still take exception to the fact that the overage rate is NEVER mentioned during the inception of the move. When the move is out for bid, every other mover addressed their overage charges when bidding for your business; A+ was the exception and only listed their $90 hourly rate (aside from their $270, three hour special). This would lead a reasonable person to assume that this would be the rate you'd revert to, but that's not the case. You find out the overage rate UPON ARRIVAL OF THE MOVER, which requires you to make some hard choices: 1) agree, and use the mover because you have already committed time, effort, and resources to the move, or 2) do not agree, start from square one, and subject yourself to a world of additional inconvenience. As a customer, I would simply like to have that information provided BEFORE I accept the offer. It's a little late in the game, especially in my case with the aforementioned delays, to opt out once the movers arrive.
