First, the good. Phoenix came in and did a great job of re-surfacing the asphalt and were at a attractive price. Now the bad: There was poor communication and customer service for anything beyond a simple job. More specifically, I think that there was a good faith misunderstanding as to what the scope of the work would cover, presumably due to language issues. When I tried to work it out and agreed to pay more, I found they were defensive rather than trying to work things out in a Solomon like manner. In fact, they didn't complete the job saying they didn't have enough workers and would be moving on. It only takes two people to complete this job. This is not a lot of workers required nor does it require lot of skill. See pictures below of how they left the job was left, random piles and stacks of bricks uninstalled. Just left there. What professional leaves a job like this with no plans to complete it and just moves on to the next client? Interestingly, they did have enough staff to send one person out solely to pick up the check. The exchange of e-mails below highlight the communication and service issues we experienced. Good morning, my friend Eric. From the first day we talk about Bricks, I commented that normally the perpendicular installation, the reason is that you do not just have to do an extra and put concrete on the edges to reinforce them, you were the ones that changed the dice, that was the cause Of having to buy more Brick. What happened to have to make a base more consistent, because of the length of brick, you buy a material that can not be used for the base (it has to be sand) but complete the back with concrete or grass, that is the reason , For which my workers did not carry the necessary tool, since they only had to cut and put the Bricks, At this moment I do not have the staff to do the work you require. I remind you that we include the paver, delivery and installation for free, as it is not included in our estimate. Today I will send a person from our company to collect the check for the amount owed. Thank you very much for using our company for your project Sincerely Joseph Perez Sr Joseph, I think there was a miscommunication. The pictures I took and showed to you on my phone were not perpendicular. In fact, I have never seen that style before until your workers started doing this when they showed up with the bricks. If there is a miscommunication and you quoted me a lower price based on them being perpendicular, I understand, and I am okay with a higher price. Also, if the materials I bought will not work, how do we handle obtaining the supplies for additional base preparation and the work to level it, and what is the price if you just lay them on top of the lime and sand and level them? Can you also provide a quote for proper concrete in between and under them as well? This is a rental property so I am trying to balance costs versus reduced long-term maintenance. Thanks in advance!Apr 17, 2017VerifiedPhoenix Concrete Plus Inc.'s reply
Eric Greschner, First off, I wanted to thank you for your business - secondly I want to address several things mentioned in the review. To my future customers, we did resurface Eric's driveway, as stated in the original signed proposal. Now, we never left the job unfished that is not the way we do business. Eric and his wife were one of the most rude and unprofessional customers we have ever had the unpleasantly to deal with. There was a huge miscommunication in the fact “he said or she said”. The contract was originally with Eric Greschner, NOT with Eric Greschner and WIFE. His wife intervened several times on our work, requesting allot of changes that we never agreed upon. Not only was his wife intervening, we were not able to understand her; she does not speak English. The original contract indicated we would ONLY do an asphalt overlay, then; through the exchange of emails and words we agreed to lay bricks on the edges of the asphalt at no additional price. We provided 150 free bricks that the customer and his wife selected themselves at their local Home Depot Store. As it was explained to him, we laid those bricks on the edges of the newly paved asphalt as a curtesy, to give it elegance to the home, as a decorative touch. We never once agreed upon us doing an entire brickwork entrance to the home for free. On top of it all, Eric and his wife interrupted my crew working to bring out scalers and measuring tools for the bricks, and asked as to why they were not being placed with cement on the surface? Basically, enforcing my laborers to work additional. Mr. Eric went and bought more “dirt” and “bricks” to provide to my employees without notifying me anything of the matter. As it is clearly highlighted, the client wanted more and more free labor and the same price and was withholding our final payment check until we did everything they indicated. That is why we simply informed the client we will not be laying down anymore bricks until we come to a new agreement of the matter, a new signed contract for the surplus of work he made my workers do, a simple change order for the additional labor he caused due to his additional material he delivered; of the which was the incorrect material. We do not place brick pavers with “dirt” but with sand and lime-rock if needed, as explained to him. If the customer would have called us before making the decision to buying the additional material, it would have been a different scenario. It’s not that we didn’t have the staff to do the brick work, it’s that we simply didn’t want to continue to work with a customer such as yourself. We tend to stay away from complicated customers such as yourself, if you would have given us the opportunity to explain the situation and come to a mutual-agreement prior to you leaving us this undeserved horrible review, things would have been different. So, next time you go and jump to conclusions, you should think rationally before doing so. As a company, we strive is customer satisfaction and word to word referrals. If you would have answered my phone call on 04/17/17, we could have talked things out and finally understood each other, instead of you bad mouthing my company and leaving us a terrible review for which we did not deserve. First and for most you hired us for Asphalt work, not concrete, not brick paver installation; we delivered on the asphalt overlay successfully. Look at the rest of our reviews, over 23 of them 95% all good to excellent ratings, but of course that one of two difficult customers like yourself. What does that tell you? That we deliver as a company every time, that it’s not always the companies’ fault. As indicated to you, our job is guaranteed and we pride ourselves in the service we provide to all our customers. Simply read the other reviews on our site, so you can clearly see that it’s not always the client that is at fault; that the customer is too. At this point, due to your unprofessionalism and disrespect towards my company and my employees I would not do business with you ever again. I do apologize if you were left with a bad taste in your mouth regarding my company, unfortunately you cannot win them all. We are perfectionists in Phoenix Concrete Plus, but remember this is asphalt, not porcelain, not tile, etc. Some things are out of our hands unfortunately. Do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, Sincerely, Thank you again for your business, Joseph Perez Phoenix Concrete Plus Inc. 786-443-1016 & 786-389-6093 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
I contracted with Phoenix Concrete Plus for asphalt resurfacing of my driveway. Joseph Perez and his team are quite professional and pleasant to work with. Mr. Perez kept me informed of the process from the moment I contacted him until the driveway was completed. I am so pleased with the work performed and will contact him for maintenance to driveway as per his recommendation. I would give him more stars if I could. Kudos Mr. Perez for an excellent job.Feb 5, 2016VerifiedPhoenix Concrete Plus Inc.'s reply

Joseph Perez Jr. came and gave me an estimate for an expansion and resurfacing of my asphalt driveway in a timely manner. That was about all that was good. The part of the driveway that was to be expanded was to be excavated 7 inches deep and then filled with 7 inches of crushed lime rock. The excavation consisted of a couple of men with picks and shovels (instead of a piece of excavating equipment) removing grass, roots and a little dirt. At most they may have dug 2-3 inches, and some places not that deep. Some of the "crushed lime rock" that they installed was as big around as your fist. The compacting consisted of running over it one time with a roller. The initial estimate did not take into account the amount of asphalt required for the addition, an honest mistake. Which I signed off on. The contract stated that the existing driveway was to be milled down 1 inch before resurfacing. Jr's. father said it was not needed, and was not done. The asphalt crew was supposed to be there in the early morning. They did not show up until 2:30. They were more interested in getting paid and leaving, than they were in doing a good job. The sides of the driveway are all crooked, and there is bonding agent all over the sidewalk and house. When I run the lawn sprinklers or it rains there are huge puddles I tried calling to discuss the problems, and Jr. says he talked to his father and there is nothing they can do. Actually the driveway is now worse than it was to begin with! DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!Jun 6, 2016Verified
Asphalt Repair and Maintenance
I was happy with Phoenix. They resurfaced my asphalt driveway. Their price was fair, especially considering the materials, crew and heavy equipment that was needed. The workmanship was good and I would recommend them.Jul 20, 2018VerifiedPhoenix Concrete Plus Inc.'s reply

Asphalt Repair and Maintenance
We needed to redo our large circular asphalt driveway, with tricky edges and borders, roots, cracks and areas of sagging. All done perfectly. They even dealt with a difficult permit and inspection process, passed without an issue. They will be who I call for sealcoating and keeping it in good shape for years to comeSep 24, 2016VerifiedPhoenix Concrete Plus Inc.'s reply
