Edith A. says, "Hi, my name is Edith and I am from Mexico. I have two degrees. I am a Systems Engineer (graduated from a University in Mexico) and a Teacher with an endorsement in Spanish (recently graduated from a University in the United States). However, no matter how much I have studied, I still struggle when speaking English and I have a very noticeable accent. That is why I was looking for precise lessons that would help me target my concerns. Last week I had my orientation session with Professor Alex. He started the session asking questions about myself like what was my native language, what were my main concerns when speaking English, what do I want to accomplish in this course, to name a few. Prof. Alex is very professional and nice, he listens to you and your concerns and he identifies your flaws from the moment you start talking. He gives you the rationale behind those mistakes you constantly make. Prof. Alex is very honest, he will tell you in a very professional way when you are not pronouncing correctly certain sounds, he won’t lie to you since he is committed to your learning. He uses this amazing technology that helps you visualize the movements in your mouth, tongue, and lips. Once you visualize the movements of your mouth, tongue, and lips that image stays in your brain and the next time you make that sound you will remember that image and you will be able to carry out that sound. By the end of my orientation session, I was one hundred percent sure that I wanted to start my English lessons with Prof. Alex. I highly recommend him if you want to improve your English."See more

I love this work. Watching actors wake up to what they’re capable of, that moment where something clicks and they stop performing and start living truthfully- that’s what keeps me doing this every day. Over time I realized that no single technique or coach works for everyone, or even for the same person forever. We change, our art changes, and what we need from our training changes too. So I pulled together a small circle of top coaches I trust and that care about actors the way I do. Some have methodologies rooted in Method, Meisner, Stanislavski, Batson, movement or psychology-based training. A few are on-set coaches, Tony winners, or have worked on Oscar-nominated performances. All of them are the kind of instructors who actually see you. The way we work is personal. You start with the coach who fits where you are right now, and as you grow, we’ll check in to make sure your training still matches who you’re becoming. If you ever feel curious to explore another approach, we’ll help you switch or add a second coach. You can work with one or many... whatever serves your craft best. Options: Private Lessons (weekly 1:1 sessions) – $550/month Private Lessons + Mentorship – $800/month Full Program (Private + Group + Mentorship) – $1000/month Group sessions are small and hands-on. We run scenes, partner exercises, and real-world simulations from audition prep and chemistry reads to table work, rehearsal, and filming. I started adding these because I kept meeting talented actors who froze once they hit a real set. These sessions let you experience that environment safely, with coaching through every step, so by the time the real thing comes, your instincts are already trained. We also host screenings and small events to give actors a chance to see their work on screen and connect with local industry guests in a genuine way. And then there’s our training portal. I built it because I hated seeing actors lose track of notes, goals, or feedback between lessons. I also feel if you pay for a lesson, you should be able to access that material at any point, and some people just aren’t note-takers. Inside, you can view past group lessons and lessons from other cities, track your progress, set goals with your mentor, manage your lessons, and see everything in one place. It helps you and your coach stay in sync, so your growth is visible and intentional. We train both in-person and online in Chicago, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Miami/Hollywood FL. If you’re serious about growing, whether you’re just starting to take this path seriously or you’ve been at it a while, we’ll meet you where you are and help you build something solid from there. If this feels right, reach out today. We’ll have a short call to talk about your goals, make sure the fit is right, and get you paired and scheduled with the coach/mentor team that’ll best help you.See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do you wear to swing dance lessons?

Swing dance is an increasingly popular style of ballroom dance with a dress code that reflects its roots in the 1920s-1940s jazz era. Although many studios don’t require historically accurate costumes for their private dance lessons, many dancers want to dress the part. You can wear clothes that are comfortable to move — and sweat — in, such as T-shirts and loose skirts or khakis. Or for an appropriately vintage look, women often wear shirt dresses with a knee-length A-line or circle skirt that allows for plenty of swishy movement. Men usually opt for a button-down shirt and trousers. The most important part of a swing dance outfit is the shoes. Both men and women can opt for simple sneakers, like Keds, or leather dance shoes, such as saddle shoes. Until you have several dance lessons under your belt, stay away from heels.

How much are singing lessons?

Singing lessons cost $50 per hour, on average. Hourly rates can range anywhere from $40-$80. However, some vocal instructors may charge flat rates or offer packages. They may also offer 30-minute lessons for a lower price. Or, they might require monthly tuition for ongoing classes. It depends on the voice coach.

Contact vocal instructors near you to get a sense of how much singing lessons cost in your area.

How much do dance lessons cost?

Adults who want to learn to dance, whether to prepare for a wedding or to meet new people, often enjoy taking dance lessons from an experienced dance instructor. Instructors may offer classes one-on-one to individual students or couples, or to small groups. The national average cost for a dance instructor ranges from $30 to $50. Some studios offer a discounted introductory lessons or group lessons, as well as package deals that are more affordable than paying for individual lessons. Some dance instructors will travel to the student’s home, which usually costs more, while others hold small-group sessions in their studios. If you choose a small-group class, expect to pay less than for individual dance lessons.

What are singing lessons like?

Every voice coach may have a different style of teaching, but here are a few things you'll likely experience during a singing lesson:

  • Explaining to the instructor what you want to improve on.
  • Going through a few breathing and riff exercises.
  • Receiving constructive feedback and criticism from the instructor.

Before your first voice lesson, you can ask your instructor what you should expect and how to prepare.

How many singing lessons do I need?

It depends on what you’re hoping to accomplish with your singing lessons. Consult a highly rated vocal instructor to determine how many lessons you should take — and how often you should take them.

Do singing lessons actually work?

Yes, many students who’ve taken singing lessons say that their singing has gotten better. To find out if voice coaches near you have successfully taught others how to sing, read their customer reviews on Thumbtack.

What is a good age to start vocal lessons?

If you’re thinking about signing up your child for voice lessons, keep in mind that some instructors recommend waiting until their voice settles after puberty. Talk to voice coaches near you to find out if now's the time for you (or your child) to start taking lessons.
