I spent months looking at the tree in the backyard trying figure out how I could trim it. I finally realized I couldn't do it, and needed to call a professional. Within two days of me calling Blaze Tree Service, the tree was trimmed and it looks great.

Steven and his crew did a phenomenal job trimming my large oak tree, palm tree, and Holly tree. A week ago, I had another tree trimmer work on several oak trees on my other house, but I realized after Steven's work, I regretted not contacting Steven at Supreme Landscaping for that project. He puts great effort in making sure everything is done correctly, and more importantly his pricing is upfront and more than fair. A lot of other trimmers that I requested quotes from would either give me outrageous quotes or will only give me an estimate after they see the tree. When the other trimmers come over to give me estimates, they would pressure me to do the work since they had already brought their equipment and crew. Steven was different, because he was able to give me an estimate that beat other's quotes just by looking at pics that I uploaded. Great job, Steven!! We will be in touch.

We're very satisfied with John's work, and are glad we hired him. He didn't just do what we asked, but went above and beyond to make sure that our yard looked as good as possible in between visits. He was also happy to help with our palm tree and all the bushes around our house. Great guy, great service, great price. What more could you ask for?

I would like to share my experience with this company for those looking to do any and all aspects of yard work for your homes or businesses. Robert and his group of workers have done such an exceptional job! We started out with a disaterous piece of property. We needed sod, irrigation, gradin, tree cutting and fencing done at our new home. We not only received a reasonable estimate. We received awesome quality work! I never even imagined our yard to look so fantastic. They were there when they said they were going to be and worked tirelessly for days to complete what needed to be done. Even with us adding more to the original job. Our yard is beautiful! Many thanks to Robert and Cody for all your time. We have also decided to keep them on to maintain our yard to keep it looking fantastic! We couldn't be happier with the outcome! Side note... People when you hire workers to do work in your yards, especially in Florida! Its always a nice gesture to fill a cooler with ice and Gatorade or water for the workers. If it's a long job requiring several days. Buy them lunch at least one day. Happy workers make productive workers. Just a thought. Thanks again Greenfeld and Yauger!

I hired Ironclad to uproot and replant some palm trees. Multiple other people told me it couldn't be done, but these guys had the confidence and were willing to tackle the challenge. The trees were moved successfully and are now thriving in their new location.

I would definitely use Executive Landscaping again. Mathew and his team were professional and he was fare in his pricing. He was hired to remove a tree which turned out to be a bigger challenge than it seemed at the time of my request on Thumbtack. Being a landscaper and not a tree removal company, the tree was much larger than Mathew and his team expected. Regardless of the challenge, he accepted the responsibility. They continued to work even when it rained and when they had a momentary problem with their equipment. I gave them 4 out of 5 stars only because I had to arrange a separate pick up with Waste Pro for an additional cost to haul away some of the tree waste. In all fairness, Mathew took as much of the stump and branches that his equipment could hold. As previously stated, I would definitely hire them again as well as recommended their services!

I wanted Mr. Moore to help redo my front yard landscape. He did a great job with his crew. He removed all my existing landscape and also trimmed couple of medium oak trees to increase the visibility of the house to the street. Planted a variety of plants after getting the design approved by me and also transported and put in the fountain that I have purchased separately. Very professional and courteous service. Will definitely hire again for similar work.

We utilized IronHead Tree Services recently for removal of a very large Magnolia tree that was completely hollow. Unfortunately for us, the tree was very close to our power lines which, only complicated the removal but, Aaron faced the issue head-on and worked safely and efficiently to remove the tree. IronHead is also licensed and insured which was a breath of fresh air as so many of the others that we called for a quote were not. Aaron was very professional and did an outstanding job on the removal. An added bonus, his prices were very competitive! It was certainly a pleasure to find someone as honest and professional as Aaron who can get the job DONE! We have found our tree man! Cannot recommend him enough!

Matt's Pro Arbor Care Inc. is amazing. Matt actually shows up to do the work. A lot a lot of salesmen come out and provide quotes for work they weren't even going to do themselves. Matt has over 15 years of experience and it shows. I had a very tricky tree tree and branches to remove that went right over my house. Part of the branches were already falling on my roof and causing damage. Right away Matt and his crew got to work and took care of my tree issue and I couldn't be happier. I'm glad I selected him over the other 4 bids that I received. They were very professional and knew exactly what they were doing. They were extremely safe with everything they did and it was just enjoyable to watch them use their skills in removing the very tricky tree. I highly recommend going with Matt's Pro Arbor Care Inc. and I'm planning on using them in the future. There is no reason why I would use anybody else when his prices were better and he was the most knowledgeable.

I used Rose Lawn Service for an installation of around 2000 square feet of sod. The team did an excellent job in meeting my requests and tending to details. The thing I most appreciate about this company is the speed in which Dewey, the owner, responds to inquiries. He sets deadlines he knows he can meet and keeps you updated of any uncontrollable issues that may occur. I highly recommend Rose Lawn Service.

I was very happy with Tree and Land Services of FL, inc. I was getting a very large, dead tree cut down and removed. They were punctual and although they had a hydraulic line blow and were forced to leave for the day before the debris was removed, they returned the next day, removed all the logs, and even used a blower to remove all loose debris from our driveway. Would highly recommend using their services.

My son used Derrusos for one of the vacation homes he manages around Disney and was very pleased and showed the work they did. Immediately I scheduled Norman for a lawn enhancement for our own house. He fixed up the front with nice flower beds and back he got rid of weeds and dead plants and cut our palm trees. He was friendly and worked hard and was on time. Very happy. Thank you

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
