Gregory was the photographer for a day long corporte event and was very professional in his demeanor and appearance. He came prepared and didn't leave the job until he was sure we were happy. I would definitely recommend to others.

Chris, did an outstanding job for my event, which was a 40th birthday party. From concept to execution, Chris was brilliant. He wanted to know what you had in mind, he was extremely professional and had great follow through. He also took note of the vision and character of the event and set the tone accordingly! Then, he was very attentive during the speeches and later surprised my Mom with a song from her country, she was thrilled! My event was a success and Chris was a large part of that! I would highly recommend him!

Greg was very gracious and receptive in working to make the 2014 Mother's Day Roaring 20's Event the huge success it was destined to be with the photo booth. The annual themed event at St. Pauls Presbyterian Church is a major 'must attend' celebration and early sellout. The photographers arrived on time, set up promptly, displayed props that were engaging for all and never had a moments rest. Everyone had a roaring good time. Prostyle is a very professional company! I began working with Richard but due to a family emergency his wife Laura wound up DJing our event! She did an amazing job, some songs were requested by our 13 year olds and she had me listen to the music before playing. She had all the current music for our age group, was able to get the boys to dance with the girls and they had an amazing time! I will definitely use Prostyle Entertainment for future events.

Nick did a phenomenal job of shooting headshots for LinkedIn at the Executive Forum conference. He handled the crowd like a pro and was very engaging. He went above and beyond, even helping us with our set up at the event and made everyone laugh and enjoy the experience. We would highly recommend him for any conference and would work with him again at the drop of a dime in the future!

CJ Hamlin made a great video of our family gathering. He was very professional and was so unobtrusive during the event that I didn't feel interrupted at all. I highly recommend his services. He blended music overlays seamlessly with the live audio and captured the crux of the event. It was truly a gift to have him create our video.

Jack was an incredible photographer for my husband's and my wedding! From the very beginning Jack was always very professional, addressing any and all concerns in a timely manner. The efficiency at how he responds to every single request no matter how big or small it is still amazes me! Every single email that I sent him, I would get such a fast response! He really was very professional not only in the sense that he was on time for everything, but also in terms of QUALITY of his photos and the amazing TALENT that he has in getting the right angle, lighting, and positioning everything just right to get the perfect pictures. I was so impressed and so happy with the pictures that he took of our wedding day that I couldn't stop raving about him to all my friends and acquaintances on my Facebook page! All my family and friends who went to the wedding also complimented the beautiful pictures that Jack Edwards took. Another thing is that he returned ALL of our wedding pictures in a matter of just a few days when normally other photographers take forever to return your pictures. I would recommend Jack Edwards in a heartbeat! He'll get all the pictures you need no matter what your event is and will be the most professional photographer you will encounter. So be at peace when selecting Jack as your photographer knowing that you will have hired the right person.

Extraordinary videos and pleasure to work with! Community Food & Outreach Center is a Central Florida nonprofit whose mission is to transform lives by providing education, food and hope to those who are facing difficult situations. We recently hosted our inaugural Quack Attack on Poverty 5k in Baldwin Park to raise funds and awareness for our organization. In order to help ensure the future growth of the event and to help strengthen its identity, we desperately wanted a professional video of the race. With no budget and no one to reach out to, we looked to Yelp and emailed half a dozen or so videographers in the area with our plea for help. Like a superhero, Vibrant Media Productions came to the rescue! Alex had previously volunteered with our organization and kindly offered to donate his time and talents to covering our event. Despite being a pro bono project, he treated us like a million dollar client. It is clear that Alex's passion and creativity fuels his work. When we first received the video, we were just blown away...it was more than we had ever hoped for. The variety of footage including candid shots, interviews and aerial as well as the pace, editing, soundtrack and transitions of the video captured the spirit of our event perfectly. Following the race, Alex recognized our organization's need for additional content and offered to continue volunteering his skill. He spent an entire day at our facility collecting footage and went on to meticulously edit and create three additional videos for Community Food & Outreach Center. His work has been extremely valuable to our organization. We had the opportunity to share one of his pieces at our annual luncheon with 700 community members in attendance, and the comments that we received afterward were simply amazing. Because of the caliber and quality of the end product we received, our board members are now using Vibrant Media Productions at their corporate events. We've worked with paid videographers in the past who were nowhere near this caliber. Whether you're local or just in town for a special occasion, we wholeheartedly recommend Alex and the Vibrant Media Productions team to anyone looking for high-quality, comprehensive coverage of their event.

We all know the best part of a wedding is celebrating and where is the beast place for that ... the dance floor!!! A few days ago I attended my aunt's wedding and from the time the first song came on to the last DjWinshow brought the house down. All songs were hits and the mixes were well placed. That place was jumpin !!! I would definitely invite DJ Winshow for any event in the future!!

We couldn't have been happier with the experience we had with Dave as our photographer for our wedding. The pictures turned out perfect and the passion he has really showed in the pictures and the overall experience. Dave went above and beyond by checking out some great backgrounds/locations at a near by park for some pictures prior to the wedding. He also took into account any ideas we had with our pictures while also offering plenty of ideas for us. I highly recommend using Dave for your photographer/videographer for any occasion!

Craig and his team did excellent work for shooting and editing a workshop we held in April. It was our first event of this type and Craig provided expert advice on how we could modify our program to make sure we got the best video quality. After the event, Craig was great to work with editing the video and we had almost a final version on the second draft. He did a nice job of creating a good story from multiple interviews and video from the workshop. It reflected both the feel and impression we wanted. I've worked with other videographers who are technically very good but fall flat on the storytelling part of editing. Craig is one of the few who excels at both the filming and the storytelling. Craig was actually the most expensive bid we had but by far the most professional and was worth every penny.

Jeremy and Fernando were brilliant. We hired them to cover a large corporate event that can seem overwhelming to some, but they were very comfortable working in a very high-energy, fast-paced environment. They produced the highest quality work. They were very easy and flexible to work with. We highly recommend them to anyone- for corporate events or weddings.

Harry came in the clutch to shoot my music video when another videographer bailed on me last minute. What I received was an even more experienced individual who gave me exceptional quality. Over time Harry has become our friend and someone we can look to for advice for photography and video as well. I've already hired Harry Aaron to shoot our next video and look forward to doing more projects with him in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
