I have had numerous corporate moves over the years but this time I was moving myself from Orlando to Cape Canaveral. Get Done Moving arrived on time and I had three movers who were extremely respectful and professional. All items were wrapped and moved without damage. Get Done Moving is by far the best moving company I have ever had. The General Manager provided an estimate that was actually acurate so I took the extra money I set aside for the move and tipped the guys generously! They were great to work with! As a veteran, I have been recommending them to all of my friends and colleagues.

Moved long distance across many states. Initial consultation and price quote were very professional. The packing boxes were from Home Depot and the boxes were of mid grade in terms of sturdiness which isn't Ecko movers fault but it did contribute to some crushed boxes when they arrived at the destination. A few damages from inadequate packing which they were very willing to remedy by fixing or replacing. I was there at the destination point to receive the packed items and the guys were great. Worked fast and moved everything in to where we asked. Moving is stressful but overall, a good experience with the move.

From the time of the original inquiry, until I wrote the final check, Debi, Luis & Ernie were great to work with. (Ernie was a machine that never quit with arms that the Rock would be envious of...) The movers called like they said they would before arriving, arrived when they said they would and worked through the rain to get our move done as quickly as possible. All of our furniture and items were wrapped well and there was no damage at all. The only reason they did not receive 5 stars was because even though they were hired specifically due to their piano moving abilities and were told the size of the piano and that it was going to a third floor, and even though Ernie and Luis were willing to do whatever it took, the two of them were unable to move the piano themselves and my husband had to assist them or it would not have made it. Other than that, and the years it took off of my life during the time they were pulling that thing up the stairs, the move was stress free and actually almost pleasant.

I have moved (and used moving companies) way too many times in the last 15 years and this was BY FAR the smoothest transaction (from a business side) as well as the MOST thorough and entertaining group of movers (from a labor/operational side) EVER! If you are ever lucky enough to have Kye (sp?) the Karaoke King, Hutch the "Can-You-See-The-Bruises?!?!" Diva, and Stefan the New Guy facilitate your move, you can rest assured your belongings are in THE BEST hands and you will have the BEST. MOVE. EVER., no matter the circumstances surrounding it!! From the initial contact with Jesse through Thumbtack, to the coordination with Melissa the day before, to the actual move day with the 3 most professional, yet hilarious, group of movers, this was the most stress-free transaction!! They even spontaneously worked together to secure me warehouse storage with them once it was realized the contents were not going to fit in the storage unit I had secured (and there was nothing bigger available)! Talk about a potential freak-out moment!! I will definitely be using this group again...and not just because they have my stuff ;) .... and HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend you give them a shot as well!! You WILL NOT be disappointed!

I want to let everyone reading this know that these movers are the best I have ever encountered. I have had Mayflower and several other moving companies in the past. I have also hired several local companies, these guys were worth double their charge. They gave us a fair price. At first other quotes said it would take at least 4 hours. I have a full one bedroom apartment. These guys said they could do it in 2 hours and did. They gave us a 2 hour window because they had one move ahead of us, emailed me that they were done and on their way. Began moving and did not stop Intel everything was loaded. Then got to the new place 3rd floors, no problem. They wrapped furniture and did not even put a scratch on a wall. I asked if they wanted a Sprite and they said not until they were done. I was solidly impresses! Work ethic is not to be found easily. Please feel free to trust this group with your move, I know I will, Barbara Freeman

These guys are awesome. I couldn't believe how easy it was. Went on Thumbtack and requested a quote from them, and minutes later Scott called me up and got me setup for the next day. It really was easy to get setup. To top it off, they offer a very clear and simple pricing structure. No hidden fees or anything. What was really solid was the fact that if your movers finish before the time you're booked for, you get prorated for only the time they took. The movers are punctual and very friendly. Mike Surdis and Sondisa Obie helped me out for my job, these guys are on point and didn't have any problems at all moving my furniture. I moved into my new place downtown and these guys got the job done very quickly, as we were minutes away from getting caught in the rain. They are very friendly and I'm a recent graduate so it was cool helping out fellow students. Easily the most hassle free moving experience I've had to endure, I'm recommending this service to all of my friends who are also recent grads that need movers in the area. Thanks guys.

Fantastic moving service! Punctual, professional and nice staff. We needed to move a big mattress and other stuff. For the pickup and drop-off, the movers were in time. They were committed to ensuring that our mattress was secured properly and ready to endure the long trip ahead. When the mattress was delivered, the mover helped me transport it to our bedroom.

Excellent experience. Company was flexible and accommodated me when I decided, on the day of my appointment, that I needed an extra mover. The movers were polite, fast, and careful with our things. Did not have an hourly minimum, which I appreciated. I would book with them again!

The movers at AmerApex Moving could not have done a better job moving our belongings over 2,000 miles away. The crew was on time, polite, very careful, and kept the move fun and in good spirits. Nothing was damaged and the price did not budge a penny. Thank you again for making my move across country stress free. I will be recommending AmerApex Moving to all my friends and family!

I required movers to enable my shift from Orlando to Ocala. This was the first time that I was moving and hence was skeptical about the experience. I must say that the movers from Happy Moving did a top-notch job. We had taken care of the packing and rented a uhaul truck. The movers, Mattew and Rico, were right on time and started accessing the job. After loading they drove our truck to Ocala and unloaded our stuff. There was no damage to any of our things and they were extremely professional the entire day. We were already stressed out with the move and the last thing that we would have wanted was the movers not agreeing or creating a fuss with regard to any of our wishes. There were a couple of times we had to change our mind about the placement of our furniture in the new house and they didn't mind or show any grimace at all. It was also very economical. They advertise at $65 an hour and that is exactly what they charge us. No hidden or implicit fees. So A+ to the two movers. One negative was the communication gap between the supervisors and the movers. During the fixing process, we were told that the movers would get a dozen blankets and I had mentioned that the movers would need to drive my rental truck to Ocala. But when the movers showed up, they neither had the blankets nor had any idea that they had to drive the truck to Ocala. I had expected more professionalism and better, lucid communication between the managers and the movers. This was definitely lacking. I hope they improve this in the future for their own good as they have great potential. The great service by the movers outshined the comm mixup.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
