Sarah is an amazing therapist. She explains her method of healing during the initial free consultation. She provides a very comfortable, relaxed setting for her clients. Hypnoteyes differs from conventional therapy in that it produces results quickly, with lasting results. Sarah takes vociferous notes and is an avid listener. She is available by text or phone should the need for communication arise between scheduled appointments. I would highly recommend Sarah Riley to family and friends, without hesitation.

I worked with Kirsten from Swasdi Yoga for a private yoga session to help with my stress management.  Kirsten contacted me right away to set up a time and date that worked with my schedule.  She arrived at my home on time and was very professional, friendly and adapted the session to meet any physical limitation I had.  After our session, I felt calm, peaceful and energized.  I will be continuing with Swasdi Yoga and will recommend Kirsten to my friends and family as it was a very satisfying experience.

I really enjoyed my experience working with Peter Rivkees. At first I was skeptical about how much I could really get in that short hour, but he would ask questions and provide feedback that made me think in ways I had not before. I was able to learn so much more about myself and work on issues that I did not realize had been impacting me as much as they had. Peter was warm and caring which allowed me to feel comfortable and not judged. The therapy helped me in my relationships, career, and overall confidence in myself and I would not want to change that experience for anything. I would highly recommend to others to find a therapist that can help them grow and challenge them to reach their full potential, Peter is a good therapist for the job.

My family and I have been clients of Jeane's for over 7 years. Her healing touch and oil therapy has helped us with everything from sprained ankles to the latest flu and even depression. Jeane is the only person I know whom I can honestly say is a genuine HEALER. She is gifted beyond words. Medical school can teach HOW to heal, but only a few special people like Jeane blend those cures with the most important ingredient: positive empathy. It is always an honor for me to work with Jeane, either as a patient or business partner.

I have gone through my share of therapists throughout the years, i found "A New Perspective" out of nowhere and because of my past experiences with other therapists; some therapists feel uncomfortable with certain diagnosis or specific struggles, i was leery but almost instantly, that was gone. Being in the "world of therapy" you pick up on a lot. The therapists that are" book knowledge" only, rarely work out; not everything can be taught in a book, there is so much beyond that. My therapist here is real and that goes further than a book can ever teach you. She has been and is still so committed to me and this journey we began; never wavering a bit, even in the really hard times i go through, in trying to live a better life. You can see in her eyes the compassion, dedication, and commitment; that is rare. This may be her job but its also her passion and that shines so brightly, even in my darkness. I look forward to our appointments, she is really flexible with scheduling and ready to work the moment you walk in the room. She remembers names or events, however small, so i know she is really listening; not just with her ears but with her heart. This is a phenomenal place, with amazing people and i am so grateful to have stumbled in.

I have been a counselor in the Central Florida area for the last 14 years. I specialize in adoption, anger, couple, family, marital and premarital family and trauma. My approach is dependent on my clients. I gear the treatment based on what each individual needs. It is very important to listen and understand what will you bring to my office so I can help you make the changes to heal and be better equipped to handle whatever trials and challenges you are and will be facing. I enjoy seeing my clients make significant progress and grow into the individual they want to be.

First and foremost, I work to create a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, empowerment, and authenticity. If those variables are not present, how can we feel safe to change? I am trained in advanced counseling skills and techniques that are shown in research to be fast and effective at creating change on the brain level. My practice does not use a cookie cutter approach. Each client is evaluated on their unique needs, preferences for treatment, and communication and relational style. I use only evidence based practices and strive to create fast and lasting change. My job is to put myself out of a job! I am an Iraq veteran and specialize in trauma, anxiety, chronic health concerns, and relationship counseling. My experiences lend a unique perspective to the work I do and my clients often say that I seem to truly understand and empathize with their experiences. It is an absolute joy to watch people grow and change every day. Seeing someone find the happiness in their life, make a meaningful connection, feel more whole, and have their "why" to get up each day is the most amazing experience. My work is not a job, it's my "why". I don't just "do" counseling, I am a counselor. The world needs more compassion, kindness, joy, and support. Creating that in my little space, in each interaction, is my way of making the world a better place.

Do worry and fear prevent you from living your life the way you want? Are you always imagining the worst-case scenario? Are you afraid to try new things, or go to new places? Have you been feeling "stuck" in old, and upsetting memories that won't leave you alone? If so, you're not alone. You're one of the millions of Americans struggling with anxiety. Treating trauma-related issues and anxiety is my specialty. I can help you to work through the trauma and fear, so that you can set free the constant worrying, achieve peace of mind and relax. Events that happen to in our lives don't cause us to feel badly; it is the way our bodies and minds respond to those events that lead us to feel badly. The good news about that is that we can work to change the way your body and mind respond to events, thus improving the way you feel. I see it as my job to utilize all the tools at my disposal to guide you adjust your mind, get you feeling better as quickly as possible, and release tension from your body. As a registered yoga teacher, licensed mental health counselor, trained in yoga therapy, and certified in clinical hypnosis for trauma resolution, my approach to treatment is holistic. I have learned that you will achieve much greater positive results when we engage both your body and your mind in therapy. My unique background enables me to use a variety of strategies including cognitive therapy, mindfulness, deep breathing, gentle yoga, hypnosis, and visualization; all of which help you to release old trauma and anxiety, and get back to living the life you want. I also have found these techniques to be particularly helpful in dealing with addiction, body image issues, chronic pain, depression, postpartum depression, and stress. I offer psychotherapy and counseling services, and private yoga sessions, and if you are interested, our work together may be a combination of the two. Although I usually find that gentle yoga as a component to treatment is very valuable, and even more so when combined with other therapeutic techniques, I leave that up to your comfort level. Private yoga sessions are also wonderful for chronic stiffness in the body, stress relief, or as part of your recovery from an injury (once you have finished physical therapy). I would love to help you on your course to a more fulfilling life, peaceful mind, and relaxed body. The relationship between your treatment provider and you is of utmost importance; thus, I am happy to give you a free 30-minute consultation, either in my office or by phone, to guide you determine whether I am the right therapist for you. Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are the types of psychologists?

Psychologists are healthcare professionals who use scientific methods to understand the relationships between the brain, environment and behavior. Psychologists may focus on research — studying how the brain and various environments drive behaviors to better understand the issues that trouble patients and society as a whole — or they may focus on practice — interacting with people using therapeutic methods. The American Psychological Association shares some of the more prevalent types of psychologists:

    • Clinical psychologists assess and treat mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.
    • Cognitive and perceptual psychologists study human perception, thinking and memory.
    • Community psychologists work to strengthen the abilities of communities, settings, organizations and broader social systems to meet people’s needs — such as improving support for victims of natural disasters, or working to improve health policies.
    • Counseling psychologists help people understand and take action on everyday issues, career and work problems, and serious adversity.
    • Developmental psychologists study the psychological development of the human being throughout life.
    • Educational psychologists concentrate on how effective teaching and learning take place.
    • Engineering psychologists conduct research on how people work best with machines.
    • Environmental psychologists study the dynamics of how people interact with their environments.
    • Evolutionary psychologists study how evolutionary principles such as mutation, adaptation and selective fitness influence human thought, feeling and behavior.
    • Experimental psychologists study cognitive processes, comparative psychology (cross-species comparisons), and learning and conditioning.
    • Forensic psychologists apply psychological principles to legal issues.
    • Health psychologists specialize in how biological, psychological and social factors affect health and illness.
    • Industrial/organizational psychologists apply psychological principles and research methods to the workplace to improve productivity, health and the quality of work life.
    • Neuropsychologists and behavioral neuropsychologists explore the relationships between brain systems and behavior.
    • Quantitative and measurement psychologists focus on methods and techniques for designing experiments and analyzing psychological data.
    • Rehabilitation psychologists work with stroke and accident victims, people with mental disabilities, and those with developmental disabilities caused by such conditions as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.
    • School psychologists assess and counsel students, consult with parents and school staff, and conduct behavioral interventions when appropriate.
    • Social psychologists study how a person’s mental life and behavior are shaped by interactions with other people.
    • Sport psychologists help athletes refine their focus on competition goals, become more motivated, and learn to deal with anxiety and fear of failure around competition.

    What is a psychologist?

A psychologist is a professionally trained mental health professional who helps patients navigate challenging life situations or mental health issues. To become a psychologist you must earn a doctoral degree; qualifying degrees include a Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D. To actively practice, a psychologist must be licensed in their state and maintain good standing. Psychologists are trained to administer tests that can evaluate a patient’s cognitive strength and weaknesses, intellectual skills, vocational aptitude and preference, personality characteristics, and neuropsychological functioning, explains the American Psychological Association (APA).

A psychologist meets with patients in an office and may work with a variety of methods, depending on patient need, such as cognitive, behavioral or interpersonal.  According to the APA, common reasons a person may visit a psychologist include:

    • Dealing with depression, anger or anxiety over a long period of time.
    • Help with a chronic condition that is interfering with their lives or physical health.
    • Help with grieving and other abrupt transitions.
    • Overcoming addictions.
    • Managing chronic illness.
    • Breaking old and harmful patterns of thinking or behavior.

Can a clinical psychologist write prescriptions?

To be able to write a prescription, a clinical psychologist must practice in a state that permits them to do so, and must either have a master’s degree in psychopharmacology or have completed the required advanced training program. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), five states currently permit psychologists to write prescriptions: Idaho, New Mexico, Illinois, Iowa and Louisiana. Many psychologists who are not able to write prescriptions work in partnership with psychiatrists, pediatricians or primary care doctors to help their patients who need medication.

    How much do therapists cost?

If you are experiencing a challenging time, have mental health difficulties, or just want professional guidance as you move through life, a therapist can provide relief, tools and structure. The national average cost for a therapist is $80-$100 per hour, although prices may be higher or lower depending on geographic location and the experience and training of the therapist.

Psychiatrists, psychologists and licensed therapists are all health professionals who offer various modalities of therapy. Ask questions about the type of therapy they specialize in (such as cognitive or behavioral, etc.) and their area of expertise (such as grief, anxiety, body image disorders, etc.) to help you find the right fit for your needs. Therapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes long.  The patient usually meets with the therapist in their office; sessions may also be held remotely (via Skype, etc.) or in a clinical setting. Psychologists, psychiatrists and other therapists who have earned advanced degrees will typically charge higher rates than other licensed therapists. Depending on your diagnosis, your health insurance may cover your therapy costs.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
