Cat Sitting: Gretchen came for a home visit prior to my departure to review feeding and care instructions for 3 cats of all different ages and picked up a key. I was away for 15 days, Gretchen sent photos of the cats throughout the two weeks. I came home to 3 happy, healthy well fed and cared for cats, not to mention a clean cat box. I will definitely use her services again. I highly recommend A Paw Above.

Cat sitting was provided by Lara who was very friendly, and sweet. She showed genuine interest and concern for Misty & Kaspian. On one of her visits she even extended an additional 30 minutes to spend quality time with them. Throughout my time away, Lara kept me informed through texts, and phone calls as well as provided pictures to keep me abreast of how things were going. Although the appointed times for the visits did not run to plan, I would say that overall, it was a good experience, and the cats were well taken care of. I would definitely recommend Lara to anyone in need of pet sitting services. Chantal Goodman

Vivian is amazing! After only the first visit things make sense as to why I need to be doing things differently with my dog. He is already responding to my leadership. Vivian is gentle, softspoken and yet was in total control of our puppy from the start.

Joyce is a first rate dog sitter who exceeded my expectations. She keeps her house extremely clean, and is good about limiting the number of dogs she watches at any given time. She knew I was nervous about leaving my dog because I had a negative experience previously in a dog sitting service at the veterinarian clinic. She treated my dog like she was her own, and texted me pictures and videos to show me how well she was doing. My dog always looked relaxed and happy, as evidenced by her wagging tail! Joyce is a warm and caring person...she is like family taking care of your dog. I wouldn't use anyone else!

I started working with Mona even before we got our dog, Belle. Mona helped us choose the right puppy for us to get us started on the right foot, and she helped us make a "puppy plan" so that things weren't so overwhelming for us as first-time dog owners. She even went shopping with us at the pet supply store to help us choose what would help us and what we wouldn't really need. And that was before the training even started! It just goes to show how dedicated Mona is to making sure that her clients and their dogs have positive, happy relationships - she thinks of every detail and helps with everything, even if it's above and beyond her job description. Her training was clear, at a good pace, and not too complicated. Belle really responded to her, and she explained everything to us in a way that made us understand Belle better, too. We've left Belle with Mona overnight and we were always confident that Belle was not only totally safe, but also having a fun time even if we couldn't be there with her. I'm only sorry we don't live in the same city as Mona anymore! But we all, including Belle, look forward to visiting her soon, and we recommend her services to all other animal lovers.

In describing Beths dog walking and pet sitting service, the only word I can use to describe it is spectacular. She has been taking care of my 2 shy and skittish schnauzers for over a year and they absolutely adore her. Prior to finding Mary Puppins Pet Nanny Service I had gone through several dog walkers with no success, as my dogs do not take to most people. As soon as they met Beth they fell in love. She has treated them as her own, with tremendous love and care and has gone way above dog walking and dog sitting. She has been a godsend and i would recommend her highly as do my dogs.

Andrya Underwood is awesome. When our family of cats grew to be seven (7) indoor cats we knew we could no longer ask our neighbors to watch them when we were away. I had met Andrya at Pet Supermarket in Hollywood and decided to interview her and a few other pet sitters. Andrya's initial visit was very positive and she was extremely professional and our cats took to her right away so we tries out her pet sitting service. We haves used Andrya's Animal House Pet Sitting Service for almost two years and are extremely satisfied. She always provides extra care for our cats and she texts us pictures to let us know they are happy and healthy. She also takes the time to play with them as well as bringing in our mail and taking care of other house hold requests.. We have never had any issues with her services - in fact she is extremely flexible and always accommodates our requests (many times with very little notice). We know we do not have to worry about our pets when we are away as Andrya takes care of them as if they were her own pets. If you have a need for a pet sitter I have recommended her to friends in the past and would always recommend her Pet Sitting Services.

Highly recommended for pet sitting. I used their services for almost a week while out of town. Mitch stayed in my home but you couldn't tell. No cleanup required. Our "Bella" was well cared for and even posed for pictures that Mitch sent us. 5 star service.

Ty is truly awesome! We hired her to walk my mom's dog and she has been extremely kind and conscientious from the start. But what has made her truly special is her initiative to go above and beyond the call of duty. Since the dog was having many accidents at home, Tai researched and recommended options for trying to train him, offering to help with theses efforts. Similarly, when the dog was barking and disturbing residents where my mom lives, Tai once again researched and implemented tools to help address the issue. Of note, she also lent us her dog bark collar to help with the situation. What's more, when we asked her if it would be possible to take the dog to her house for a period of time to help train him, she was more than happy to do so. We feel incredibly lucky to have found Tai--not only does she responsibly provide the dog walking service we originally hired her for, but she gladly and pro-actively helps with all of my mom's dog's needs...more than we ever expected!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
