Taylan was great. He responded to my request first and was at my door ready to fix my refrigerator an hour later, even at 9:30 at night. He fixed the issue I was having plus another curve ball I threw him in 20 minutes flat. I would definitely recommend him.

First we want to say "great job"!!!! Gilberto and Mac installed our 2 bathroom vanities, changed faucets, installed shower and bath doors and then they did more. We originally had two other guys working on our cedar ceiling and when it appeared they did not know what they were doing, we asked Gilberto to step in and finish the job. It was beautiful, to say the least. We asked them back again to do our French closet doors, change doorknobs and build a spa closet for the bathroom. I am sure they will be back to finish our dream home. Thank you, guys. Larry and Denise

I would recommend him for any job around the house. He was pleasant and kind and made me feel completely comfortable and confident in hiring him.

I am so glad to have found Anthony. We had an ancient storm door and ugly exterior door that needed replacing. Poor guy busted his butt to remove all the old material and rebuild a new frame and hang the new door. He was so professional and exact. We couldn't be happier with the end result. Really pays attention to detail!

I am a single mom with limited funds, that being said; I had the exterior of my home painted by Luis and his team. There are no complaints!! My house had a lot of cracks and holes in the stucco and wood, which they caulked prior to painting the trim, framing, doors, and then the house. Luis is extremely friendly, trustworthy, and most of all the most reasonable and best price I was quoted :) I have a 50 year old house that hadn't been painted in 15 years, it's awesome the job they did! When I can get the funds, I plan to use them again for my driveway and interior.

I hired Jobert to replace my sliding bypass closet doors with French open doors. When he was here, I also asked if he could fix the pavers in our driveway that had become dislodged and scattered. He was able to do both projects in one day and we're happy with his work. He is prompt, friendly and professional.

I had a number of jobs that have been pilling up to include electrical repairs, door repairs, ceiling vent installs and Chris knocked them all out in just 1 visit. His price was extremely fair and don't think I could have gotten it done any cheaper. I would definitely recommend Chris to others and will be using his services for any futures installs/repairs I may need to my home in the future.

Over the past 3 years I have used As You Like It Painting for a number of projects on my home in Palm Beach Gardens. The first project they worked on was painting the entire interior of my house. That process was flawless. Pricing was fair and the job was completed as promised. This year, I had the exterior of my home painted and again they did a perfect job. Tim St. Mary (the owner) also suggested that I faux paint my entry doors that are metal to look like wood doors. I went ahead with that project and could not be happier with the outcome. You would never know they were not real wood. Not only does this company provide excellent painting services, they also have installed new flooring in my guesthouse and installed new exterior lighting. Again, pricing was fair and the jobs were completed on schedule. I would highly recommend this company for your home projects.

Robert stained and polyurethane my front door, painted my garage and lania floors, installed shelves in my garage and bedroom closet, and painted every room in my home. He also gave me excellent suggestions to aid me with my color scheme. Robert is a professional, he is punctual, he is meticulous, and was always working during his time in my home. My neighbors are in awe of his work and are already hiring him for painting in their homes.

I am highly satisfied with the painting and kitchen renovation they provided. I am used to being overcharged for work done in my home but they not only quoted me a fair price but they did immaculate work. They also replaced my windows and doors. Rufus and Sons is my only go to team I trust in Palm Beach...too many others charged too much or don't do a great job. They also are trustworthy and kind people.

Justin arrived on time and was very polite. I had him install faux garage door windows and hardware for me. He was very careful with the installation and measured everything out before starting to work. He was well organized and left the area cleaner than it was when he arrived. I would recommend his services to anyone in need.

I am skeptical about hiring through online sites, but decided to give it a chance since I was having a hard time finding someone to replace a door. I am very happy I did. Nick the owner of D-Squared Designs has been nothing but professional, prompt and fair in pricing. He had completed the first project within a week of contacting us. We are so pleased with the results that we have hired him to do additional work. Five stars all the way around.

I hired Bobby to paint all of my dingy baseboards, casings and doors in my house as well as replace the base trim in 2 of my bedrooms, and he did a superlative job. There was some unexpected minor repair work to be done on some drywall and that was no problem for Bobby as well. Not only is he a Pro at painting but he has carpentry skills as well. This was a relief for me because a GC or the prospect of hiring other people to do the repair work would have been costly. Bobby handled everything for us at a reasonable price. He was very thorough and meticulous about his work and always took the time to explain his procedures or if we ever had any questions. With Bobby it was apparent from the start he takes great pride in his work. 5 stars and highly recommend!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

    Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How much does it cost to install a new garage door opener?

Your new garage door opener cost will vary based on the model you purchase and how long installation takes. Typically, installation pros charge by the hour, although if the pro is also selling the garage door opener they may have a flat fee for the product with installation. The national average for new garage door opener costs (with installation) is between $390 and $650, although the national average cost for the opener purchased alone may be in the $150-$300 range. The three most common types of openers are chain-drive, screw-drive and belt-drive. The chain-drive costs the least but makes the most noise. The belt-drive is typically the quietest and the most expensive. You can expect to pay about the same amount for installation for any of the three styles. The lifespan of a garage door opener is approximately 10 years, depending on quality. A pro may provide opener repairs for the cost of their service call fee or they may charge a flat fee, such as $100 for opener repair. Here are some examples of new garage door opener average costs, including installation:

    • Contractor-grade garage door opener with installation: $300.
    • Chain-drive opener with installation and one remote: $350.
    • Belt-drive opener with installation and two remotes: $400
    • Top-of-the-line opener with ¾-horsepower battery backup, belt drive and nearly soundless operation: $475
      • The majority of higher-end garage door openers are “smart” products and will connect via app to your smartphone for remote access.
