Andy did a wonderful job on our patio tile and back splash for our grill area. We wanted additional concrete work done as well to the remainder of the patio, so he hired a subcontractor to do the concrete decking. Andy's work is much better than the subcontractor's work on the concrete, although overall we are extremely pleased and happy with all of the work. Andy was in contact with us while the process was going on. Even when we hit a few bumps in the road such as unexpected plumbing issues, rain delays, etc, causing the project to take a little longer than expected, but that's ok, he kept in good contact with us the whole time. When doing projects, there are almost always unforeseen things that come up and people have to plan for those, so we are not upset about the project taking longer than expected, we are just happy it is done and the main thing, it is done right! I am very pleased with Andy's work, dedication, kindness, communication, and dedication to do a good job. We are so pleased, we have asked him to do some additional work (paint the outside of our house!) and I'm sure we will have even more projects in the near future after the house is painted. We will be calling Handy Andy!! Thank you Andy, good job!!

Tero services came quickly to give me a quote and offered a fair price. It wasn’t the cheapest, but you could tell they knew their stuff and were going to do it right. They were also by no means the most expensive either... some other business told me that they’d have to do all these extra services first to paint the house without even looking at the house or touching the paint. The owner of Tero on the other hand walked me around the house and showed me everything that was either good or needed attention, so I trusted his assessment far more, even with the much lower price point. He followed up regularly as we were waiting for HOA approval, and used all the required colors by the HOA. Provided license and insurance info as necessary. Very easy to work with, came in quickly and got it done in a couple days.

I cannot speak highly enough about my experience with this company. When I first met Martin he was extremely personable and knowledgeable. I instantly felt comfortable and assured I was going to get exactly what I invisioned for my home. The previous owner of our house painted the walls dark purple and the walls had more holes that I could count. There were fake outlets covering holes... My husband and I knew if we wanted our house to look decent we needed to hire a professional. Martin patched our walls and sanded down some of the drip marks from the thick layer the previous owners slapped on. I had to be at work all day so he kept me in the loop with periodical pictures of the project and was finished ahead of schedule. He turned this house into what we now call home! I am definitely saving this contact for when we are ready to redo our kitchen and recommend him to everyone!

Fred was terrific. Although I completed a series of DIY projects to the master bedroom (paint, remove popcorn and plaster the ceiling) the crown molding was far too challenging. Fred did a wonderful job - he is very professional and was careful regarding my property and the condo building rules. He was also available to hang a new door for me, thank goodness he has years of experience because it needed to be customized for the existing frame. When the time comes for future renovations - ,,,,I will call Fred -

Over the past 3 years I have used As You Like It Painting for a number of projects on my home in Palm Beach Gardens. The first project they worked on was painting the entire interior of my house. That process was flawless. Pricing was fair and the job was completed as promised. This year, I had the exterior of my home painted and again they did a perfect job. Tim St. Mary (the owner) also suggested that I faux paint my entry doors that are metal to look like wood doors. I went ahead with that project and could not be happier with the outcome. You would never know they were not real wood. Not only does this company provide excellent painting services, they also have installed new flooring in my guesthouse and installed new exterior lighting. Again, pricing was fair and the jobs were completed on schedule. I would highly recommend this company for your home projects.

We hired Panariello Brothers to do several projects in our new home. Phil, Mikey and the rest of the team did an amazing job on all projects from start to finish. They paid close attention to detail, made sure my carpet, tile, walls and furniture were well protected for all projects and made sure to clean up after all projects. We used them to do the following jobs: - Kitchen & Bathroom Backsplash - Light Fixture installation - Crown Moulding - Interior Painting - Outlet/Switch installation - Brick Wall in office We're beyond happy with the quality of work, the professionalism and responsiveness.

Worked with Bob from Opticks Painting and my experience could not have been better. After Bob and his team painted my apartment, my my girlfriend was so impressed with the work that she hired Opticks to paint her condo-and was delighted with their work. In my previous career, I often worked with commercial contractors and painters and am quite familiar with how they price out work, and the kind of games that are too frequently played in NYC. Bob and his team were professional, clean and really decent to deal with. I would 100% use them again.

Jeff responded quickly to our needs. This is his 2nd job with us. This time updating the paint in the interior of the house we are selling; ceilings & walls. His crew is very neat and tidy and I don’t have to look over them. The paint job is superior. He will also be pressure cleaning the exterior. His cleaning crew will also prepare the inside of my house to make it ship shape for selling, I used them previously on the house we moved into and his cleaning crew does a phenomenal job cleaning post construction jobs. Call Jeff, he won’t disappoint you!!

From the moment my husband started talking to Scott he knew this was the person for the job. Scott understood immediately what my husband was trying to achieve and made great suggestions that improved upon the original idea. Scott not only painted our pool fence and screened in porch perfectly, but reinforced the posts and columns and installed all new screens. He and April worked side by side creating a whole new look for our porch. It was dingy and old and dilapidated. Now it is white, bright and looks brand new. Scott and April went above and beyond what was expected and we will have more projects for them coming up!!!

Dennis and his crew, Kenny and Bennie, were a delight! They showed up on time every day; did an excellent job painting my home interior, cleaned up daily...all at a fair and reasonable price. Dennis also did several little "extras" without charge. Customer service at its best! Would highly recommend.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
