Quang & Co did an excellent job cutting back my carrot wood tree and ficus hedge. They were so neat there wasn't a leaf or twig to be found and this was a very big job. I had really let it go over the summer. The price was fair and I highly reccommend him.

Total Tree did a beautiful job of trimming our giant Royal Poinciana tree we have in the front yard of our house in Boca Raton. The tree had one main trunk with four tall, thick limbs, and one of the limbs was growing over our house. In preparation for hurricane season, we needed that limb completely sawed off and the other three limbs' branches trimmed. Jesus, Total Tree's owner, is a total gem and does business the old-fashioned way. Despite having back-to-back work all day, he stopped by for a complimentary consultation the same day we put the job on Thumbtack. Jesus was courteous and patient and took the time to examine the tree closely and thoughtfully discuss exactly what needed to be done to keep it functionally safe and aesthetically pleasing. One can tell Jesus is both an experienced craftsman and artist and has a serious love for trees and what they mean to the families who love them too. He gave us a very competitive bid and arrived on time the very next morning to do the job. Jesus and his team worked more beautifully and efficiently than much larger teams we've hired in the past to care for our trees. Total Tree left our tree gorgeously balanced and groomed, with its dangerous limb perfectly removed, and hauled away all branches and leaves. As an unexpected gift, Jesus even carved us a tiny piece of the extracted limb to use as a gardening decoration. We simply can't recommend this company enough for its personable attention and expert work.

Oberlan trimmed 4 Palm trees for me. One of which is 30' tall with coconuts. While trimming he cleaned up previous trimmings that were done improperly. The location of the coconut Palm caused unavoiable minor damage to a few shrubs and plants. Unlike others I had trim that tree Oberlan went above and beyond by trimming the shrubs and plants to minimize the damage. I am very pleased with the work he did.j

Installed about 500 sft of lawn and trimmed a large tree in front. The sod installation was good except that the crew did not adjust for the sprinkler heads and I had to do that myself and cut around it. They also suppose to put some weed inhibitor onto soil before installing new sod which they done after and only after I inquired about it. However, the sod they delivered was of excellent quality. The tree trimming took a long time because they had faulty saws and chains. Their truck for the hall away was too small and there was a lot of excess debris on the new lawn when it was all done. I would have given 5 stars but there were just a few little things that were unimpressive.

The work we got of these guys was amazing. We had a tree that could've crushed our waterfall on our pool and they somehow managed to redirect it and cut it up without damaging a thing. The amount of work put into this one tree would've taken others a full day!

Mackenzie was really good, he work with me to give me options, i had a big tree in my backyard, he came on time to look at the work, he told me exactly what he will be done, he came the next day with five of his guys and they knock the tree out. The main thing for me his they respited my home, i have a fence backyard and there was no way to get a truck back there so they used caution and make sure the left my home with no damaged and they cleaned when they are done. The part the impressed me the most is, his truck was full, there were two big pieces left, he told me he would come get them in the next few days, i paid for the whole work, as he promised he came back with two of his guys and hauled the rest. very professional, reliable and his staff respected my home. i would recommend them to my family and friends, you can definitely hire them.

I needed some tree work after the hurricane. I was not in Florida. I sent a message describing what needed to be done. They went around and looked at it all and sent me a proposal with what they would do and the price. I had a followup question, which was answered. I said go ahead. They did the work, sent me photos and I paid for the job. The whoie process worked well.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
