I hired Lori to house sit/pet sit while we were out of town. I could not have been happier. My house looked better than when I left it and my pets were super well taken care of. I've now booked Lori for all my out of town stays. She's the best.

Pet sitting for our 3 year old cat. Usual cat sitting duties in addition to looking after some plant containers in the yard. Watering, feeding, playing and cleaning after cat.

Martha is very gifted at her trade and we were incredibly happy with our experience! She went above and beyond to help us better train our dog, and was even kind enough to dog-sit for us while we were out of town one weekend so our tempermental pup didn't have to be put in boarding and potentially reverse all that we had worked on. While we were sad to lose her to Tampa, we continue to work with our dog daily on the tips and tricks she gave us to be more effective with him!

Working with Susan at Pawsitively Fun Pet Sitting LLC has been a fantastic experience. When you look for someone to care for your pets you want to find someone trustworthy, kind to your animals and someone your animals like back. Susan has been all of those things, and more, for our little family. She takes great time with our dogs and they look forward to her visits. She is very easy to get a hold of and very flexible with our ever changing schedules. She has been able to be there for us for daily visits while we are at work and caring for our dogs while we are away from home. We could not have asked for a better pet sitter.

Martee is fantastic! She cared for our 3 pets for 11 days this month. She cared for them like they were her own. I felt so much happier knowing that Martee was at my house with my pets instead of at a kennel. Do not hesitate to use her for your pet sitting needs. We will definitely use her services again!

I needed to board my puppy on a short notice, due to short notice from my landlord to perform termite extraction for entire building. She saved me! I am very grateful, not only was she professional , but very gentle with my puppy. She sent me daily updates with pictures, and even extended my puppies stay when my condo was not completed on time. I most definitely recommend her services! My puppy gained a new friend! Thank you Mrs. Shar! - Ivana and Maya

V.I.C. is awesome! My pet sitter of 8 years just retired so this was my first time with them but it will certainly not be my last. They are keepers! On top of all the other outstanding qualities I have checked, I loved the feedback provided online by the sitter daily, complete with pictures. It meant a lot to be able to get an update and see my furry ones! Of course everything was perfect when we got home.

Linda is an amazing pet sitter. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty to take care of our “little ones” when we have been on vacation. And since the dogs are getting up in age, she also comes over once a day while we are at work, to let them out. We highly recommend Linda’s Critter Sitters. We wouldn’t trust anyone else with our “babies!”

We met Barbara through Thumbtack. She cared for our pet and home in our absence. My dogs immediately took a liking to her. She left my house clean and spotless. I don't think my dogs missed us at all. We will use her again and again! We are so happy to have found her!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
