Phil H. says, "I’ve had the pleasure of learning Spanish with DreamSpanish (Martha), and I can confidently say she is one of the best language instructors I’ve ever had. Her teaching style is clear, engaging, and tailored to different learning styles, making even the most challenging concepts easy to understand. What truly sets DreamSpanish apart is her patience and dedication. She takes the time to ensure every student feels comfortable and supported, always providing helpful corrections and explanations. Her deep understanding of all dialects of Spanish has been especially valuable, and she seamlessly incorporates cultural insights that make learning even more enjoyable. Thanks to her, I’ve not only improved my Spanish but also gained a deep appreciation for the culture—so much so that I’m getting married in Spain! Her passion for teaching is evident, and she genuinely cares about her students’ progress. If you’re serious about learning Spanish, I highly recommend DreamSpanish! — Phil"See more

Nora A. says, "Ms. Isabel, There are truly no words that could fully express the gratitude our family has for you, but I want to send this because you deserves to know just how life-changing your impact has been on my son, Jace. Ms. Isabel was recommended to me by Ms. Sharon from Jace’s Speech and Language Therapy during one of the most stressful and emotional times of our journey as parents. Jace was in third grade, and in Florida, third grade is a critical year because students must pass the FAST testing in order to move on to fourth grade. For many families, this may already feel overwhelming, but for us, it carried an even deeper weight. Jace has autism and severe ADHD. Since kindergarten, he has struggled academically and consistently scored Level 1 and Level 2 on standardized testing. Even with his Individualized Education Plan and all the supports we have fought tirelessly to secure for him, reaching a Level 3 felt almost impossible. As parents, we were terrified of the possibility of retention, not because of a label, but because we knew how deeply it could affect his confidence, self-esteem, and the way he viewed himself. From the very beginning of Jace’s diagnosis, we made a promise to never allow limitations to define him. We fought hard to keep him in general education because we believed he deserved the opportunity to learn, grow, and be challenged just like every other child. We have invested so much into therapies, programs, support systems, and interventions because all we have ever wanted is for Jace to believe in himself and know that he is capable. When Ms. Sharon recommended Ms. Isabel, I did not hesitate. Looking back now, it was one of the best decisions we have ever made for our son. We started working with Ms. Isabel around October of the school year because we knew early on that Jace needed someone special, someone who could truly understand how he learns. Not just someone who could teach him academically, but someone who could connect with him, engage him, motivate him, and adapt to his unique learning style. For seven straight months, October, November, December, January, February, March, and April, Ms. Isabel poured into Jace with patience, dedication, consistency, and love. Teaching Jace is not easy. He is not a neurotypical learner. He needs creativity, encouragement, structure, engagement, and someone willing to teach in ways that make learning come alive for him. And Ms. Isabel did exactly that. She never came into our home discouraged or overwhelmed. Every single time she stepped through our door, she brought energy, positivity, and belief. More importantly, she spoke life into my son. She constantly reminded Jace how smart, capable, and intelligent he was, even during moments when he could not see it in himself. Those words mattered. Those affirmations mattered. The confidence she helped build in him mattered. Ms. Isabel believed in Jace before he fully believed in himself, and that made all the difference. Today, after years of struggling and scoring at Levels 1 and 2, Jace scored a Level 4 on the FAST test. A LEVEL 4. What felt impossible became possible. We are beyond proud of Jace and all the hard work he put in, but we also know that this incredible transformation would not have happened without Ms. Isabel’s dedication, patience, encouragement, and unwavering belief in him. She did not just tutor our son academically. She helped change the way he sees himself. That is a gift our family will never forget. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Ms. Isabel, for every lesson, every encouraging word, every moment of patience, every ounce of effort, and every time you reminded Jace that he was capable of greatness. Your impact on his life goes far beyond academics, and our family will forever be grateful for you. You are truly amazing, and we thank God for placing you in our lives."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
