Introduction: I offer math tutoring in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus, as well as SAT and ACT preparation. High school level or above, please. I'm a Caltech graduate with many years' teaching and tutoring experience. Most of my students have appreciated my approach to math--I like to focus on reasoning rather than the memorizing of formulas. Because I'm retired, I tutor as much for fun as for the money, so I'm looking for students who enjoy math or used to enjoy math. Former students of mine have gone to Yale and to Princeton, among other schools. But I'm not the best tutor for everyone--it depends in part on how well we relate to one another and whether you like my style and my sometimes quirky sense of humor. I'm fairly new to Portland, Oregon. I will come to your home or meet in a central location such as Starbucks or Powell's. First hour rate depends a little on how far I have to travel. My rate beyond the first hour, for sessions longer than one hour, is $25-30 per hour.

Larry Rabinowitz took the time not only to teach my son the material but found the best way to connect with him to make the learning process most effective. Larry will serve as a great tutor and a mentor for your child.

Mr Rabinowitz is an inordinately effective math tutor. He tutored all three of my children in grade school through high school level mathematics. He is engaging and adapts well to the individual student's learning style. Most importantly, he stresses problem solving rather than a cook book approach, which serves students well when they take the college entrance exams.
