FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It's not complicated. It can be either Time & Material at an agreed upon rate (different rates apply to home users/standalone PCs versus business/networked PCs) or a managed services agreement paid monthly, quarterly or annually, in advance. It is also possible to get pricing based on a specific detailed project description. Standard fee for home users/standalone PCs or attached devices is $60 per hour with a one hour minimum. Remote Support is $50 per hour with a half-hour minimum. I offer $10 per hour discount to Veterans and clients over 70 years old.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After attending to any issues requiring immediate attention, if circumstances permit and they are agreeable, I usually examine their equipment/environment and offer them some consulting about how they might improve or correct existing conditions. I do not attempt to sell products to my customers however I sometimes make suggestions that involve purchasing hardware or software and I can suggest potential sources for those items. If a customer prefers that I provide the items, I can do so. As a rule, I don't mark up such items but I may charge a fee for my time if it involves a lengthy process.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I usually do a lot of reading online and in magazines to stay abreast of the latest developments. I also like to pioneer the latest Windows versions. For instance, I currently have Windows 11 deployed in an HP laptop as well as in a Virtual Machine and two desktop file servers in my workshop.
