Penny is an amazing pet sitter. She is reliable and responsive to my emails. She loves animals very much and I feel 100% confident that my cats are well cared for while we are away. Finding a good pet sitter can be challenging, you have to find someone who loves and cares for your animals as much as you do. I know that I have found that person in Penny.

I want to start off by saying that our pets are not just our kids, but our only kids. This means that we are very picky pet owners. We have several pets with various needs such as meal, potty, and medication schedules. When we realized we were going to need pet sitters we were very worried about making sure the household would remain stable and not show any disruptions. Anyone with lots of pets knows that when they aren't happy, they will make sure you know. That means cleaning up messes! Kathy has been a lifesaver for us! She has kept to the schedule, is always on-time, and ensures everyone is happy. That also includes us, the nervous pet parents. Kathy sends regular updates to let us know how things are going at home. Even our very nervous old lady (our geriatric shepherd mix) has become friendly and comfortable with Kathy! Butch and Kathy are both very committed to the comfort and well being of the pets they care for. When we get home our pets are calm and happy and we have yet to find any messes to tell us otherwise. We honestly don't know what we would do without B and K!

When we were interviewing pet sitters 7 years ago, Marcia was the first one to stoop down to meet our girls first. Not only has she pet sit our dogs in our home over the years, she has house sit with them in our home and also has picked them up to keep them outside our home when needed. She is trustworthy and kind hearted and good with the dogs. The daily texts are a godsend to me as I worry about the pups when I am away. I would highly recommend her services.

She is the perfect sitter we could ever ask for. She watched our cats twice when we went on vacation. The cats are comfortable with her. She is also very nice and she communicates very well. I would recommend her to anyone who needs a pet sitter

Susan has been our pet sitter/dog walker/emergency Vet contact, etc. for several years. It took us 8 years to find someone in this area on whom we could rely. We went through a handful of pet sitters that left us seeing red and having to get last minute neighbors' help. We finally get to travel and I cannot do that comfortably unless my fur babies are taken care of. Even if we have a friend house sitting, I still have Susan check up on them (the sitter and the dogs and cat) and walk the dogs. She always texts me so I know she has been there.

Sue was great to work with and immediately put our minds at ease from the first phone call. We are currently vacationing in the Bradenton area for the month of January and required a dog sitter during a day trip to Miami. Sue responded to our request on Thumbtack and the rest is history. She took great care of our Miniature Schnauzer while we were away for the day. He was walked, fed and given lots of love and attention. The photos and texts with updates was reassuring and a real bonus. We would highly recommend Sue and would definitely reach out to her again if we need a dog sitter in the future.

Thank goodness I found Kendra! She was a pleasure to work with during her stay at my home with my (7) cuddly but irresponsible dogs. She always showed up when she said she would and always communicated with me daily and sent pictures of my babies. A truly lovely lady to work with! Kendra will always be my "go-to" pet sitter, I hope she is always willing to take us on too!! A genuine pleasure to work with. Thank you so VERY much Kendra (hugs).

Shauna & all her pet sitters are awesome! I'm a 1st time (overprotective) pet parent, and I was nervous to leave my puppy with a stranger. Shauna & her pet sitters came for an initial "meet & greet." I knew immediately that I could trust them to take care of my puppy. Right after each visit, I receive an email detailing the events of the visit as well as pictures! Tampa Pet Sitters are passionate about their clients. Their service is professional & personable! I wholeheartedly trust them to care for my little girl, Keona!

Shar took care of my best buddy for 16 months and he absolutely adores her. When I moved out of the area he moped for days, he missed her so much. I recommend Shar for anyone looking for a doggy day care provider that genuinely cares about your dog.

With five dogs in our house, it took us a long time to decide on a mobile pet care company who could truly listen and mold themselves to our situation. Other companies would try to 'take charge' and tell us how they will only work. Bruce listened to what we wanted and needed and gave us just that. In the end, there are many passionate pet care companies but they aren't thorough. With Bruce, he got the job and kept us up with his truly amazing text messages about our animals and how excited he was to be working with us to care for our dogs. That's the key, "working with us", not so much for us. Bruce makes you feel like he's a friend, and after he was done with our sessions for the week, my wife and I spoke in great detail about that. In the end, you can leave your animal with anyone... I won't. I'm not an easy sell. I trust very few people with my dogs, I'm one of those dog people with no kids... (by choice). What matters in the end is TRUST. Period. You will get that with Bruce... and some really great, in-depth text updates! haha... believe it or not, when you're hundreds of miles away, it helps you sleep by putting a smile on your face, and an ease to your worry. Thanks Groovy Dogs!

This is a respectable and compassionate professional pet caretaker. Eleanor "Cookie" provides the specific care I need for my diabetic cat, Ikee. He needs insulin twice a day and Cookie did not hesitate, where other pet sitters did. That, to me, is the difference between a sitter and a professional caregiver. Your pet family is in excellent hands with her!

If you have a dog, Jazmin is the person you should trust to watch over them. Jazmin demonstrated from the onset that my dog is as important to her as her own. She is friendly, very attentive, and shows a lot of individual attention to her. Jazmin sends continuous photos of how my dog is doing; which helps put me at ease. She even takes the dogs on trips to dog parks. After picking my dog up; I'm pretty sure my dog wanted to stay with her.....because she whines whenever we leave. Jazmin is flexible and will do whatever she can to make your dog happy and comfortable. I have and will always recommend Jazmin to anyone I know who needs a dog sitter. There is no person out there that I would rather have watch my dog then Jazmin.

I like working with V.I.C. because the pet sitters are professional and genuinely care about the work they do. My dog loves her sitter (Gabby) and I love that Gabby keeps me updated about how things were each day. We use a notebook to write to one another. The huge benefit of using a service like this is the dependability of always knowing someone will be there to walk my dog. I don't need to scramble for alternatives if something comes up.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
