Introduction
The biggest differences in my experience as a home inspector as opposed to other home inspectors is that prior to getting into the home inspection industry I've spent my entire career repairing and replacing major and minor components inside and outside of homes. I've spent 18 years as a maintenance supervisor of taking care of some of the largest, most expensive properties in West Palm Beach such as The Residences at City Place and The Strand located in downtown West Palm Beach. Along with being a home inspector for the past 7 years I've also been an appliance technician for General Electric receiving the highest level of training and continuing education in the industry. The level of service and attention to detail I provide in my home inspection business is the same level of service provided to the investors and residents of my previous properties. If you want an accurate, detailed home inspection it's very important to find out what kind of background your home inspector has. Because of the slow construction industry there are a lot home inspectors out there with all types of construction backgrounds and while a licensed contractor such as a plumber my be able to do an excellent job inspecting your water heater how much do you think he's going to know about your HVAC or your electrical system. Yes there really is a big difference. Choosing a professional home inspector to inspect your new home and trying to cut corners to save $50.00 on your home inspection may cost you 10 times more than that in the long run.

I was referred to Mr. Scott by my realtor, and I must say I was very favorably impressed with his knowledge, his professionalism, and his dedication. The report he produced (42 pages!) was well-written, highly detailed, heavily illustrated, and yet easy to understand. It was also almost unnecessary because, after 2+ hours of crawling around in places I would not consider going, which left him tired, dirty, sweaty and covered with cobwebs, Mr. Scott conducted me around the property, indicated areas of concern, and offered his recommendations for dealing with them. He also provided a wind mitigation report for me. I would not hesitate to call upon Mr. Scott again should I need another home inspection, nor would I hesitate to recommend him to anyone needing same within his service area.

I decided to choose Beacon Home Inspection services when I bought my home in September 2013 based on their positive feedback on sites like Google and Yelp. While I was initially satisfied with the service, William’s (the owner) customer service and follow-up was absolutely awful. I have never written a negative review before, but his level of customer service was so bad that I felt I should warn others so they can consider my experience before picking a home inspector, which is one of the most important part of the home buying process. When I bought my house, William performed all three inspections- home, four point, and wind mitigation. William identified an issue with the front door of my house (unable to confirm if it was wind rated). So I did not qualify for the wind mitigation credit, which is worth several thousand dollars. I replaced my front door with an impact rated door, and kindly asked William to update my report (which he offered to do). After several weeks, and dozens of calls and emails, William finally updated the report. However, my insurance company rejected the new report because he did not sign it and update the date on the report (this was a fraud alert for them); so I went back to William and asked him to perform these 2 simple tasks. I called probably 20 times and emails another 15 times over the course of 3 months to request this to be done- I routinely got excuses like “I’m too busy right now, I will get to it next week”; “I’m on vacation I will get to it next week”; “I lost the report so now I have to make a new one”. Eventually, William stopped responding to my calls and emails entirely. Because of William’s unacceptable business practices and his refusal to complete my report, I had to hire another inspector to inspect the house write a completely new report. Fortunately, this new inspector was extremely professional, and gave me the completed report the same night they inspected my house. Additionally, they identified some aspects of William’s report that were flat out wrong (example: he incorrectly identified the type of roof that I had- that seems like something an inspector should know). Overall, I would not recommend Beacon Home Inspection to anyone. William takes shortcuts with his work, is an unqualified inspector, and he is extremely slow and unresponsive in following up with his customers.

Willie was very professional. He took his time inspecting my future home. He even took the time to show me how to perform basic up keep on my appliances. ( He is very knowledgeable when it comes to appliances). I would highly recommend him to anyone needing a home inspection or hurricane inspection. My report was easy to read and very thorough. Two thumbs up!

William was very professional. His report was extensive and gave us valuable inputs so we can get our condo in shape. He also followed up with us to see if we had any questions after we received the inspection report. Overall, we are very pleased with his service and will definitely be using him again.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started my career back in 1981 by taking classes in HVAC, electrical, plumbing and stationary engineering at Tampa Bay Technical high school. After graduating from high school I moved into maintenance in the hotel industry in 1986 and continued my education at Tampa Bay Technical Institute. In 1990 I moved into the multi-family housing industry where I remained until 2004 opening up and overseeing the construction of multi million dollar properties such as City Place Residential and The Strand in downtown West Palm Beach and properties in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa and Fort Myers. In 2004 I left The Strand and started working full time for General Electric repairing appliances and part time inspecting homes for the previous owner of Beacon Home Inspection Services. In 2010 I bought out the owner of Beacon Home Inspection Services, revamped the business and have been one of the top home inspection companies in South Florida ever since.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Home inspections, mold inspections and mold testing services, wind mitigation Inspections, 4 point inspections, termite inspections, pool and spa inspections, well water testing, lead paint testing and much more.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

You'’ve done your homework, saved your money, found the best Realtor in Palm Beach County. You'’ve spent countless hours looking for the right home. Now that you’ve found it, let Beacon Home Inspection Services LLC make sure your buying the home of your dreams's and not someone else's nightmare. When it comes to the overall safety and health of your family, home and investment, there are no substitutes for experience, training and your home inspectors due diligence. There are so many hazards in the modern American home today whether it be from an environmental, structural, or a mechanical issue. Choosing the right home inspector is just as important as choosing the right home. You want someone who is experienced in all aspects of the home inspection process. Someone who has a working knowledge of what it takes to maintain a home so he/she can pass that knowledge on to you. Above all else, you want a home inspector that has your families safety in mind. At Beacon Home Inspection Services your safety is our top priority. You'll also want to make sure that your home inspection service provider is licensed and insured. Ask your home inspector what type of report he/she will provide. After all the report is what it's all about. If you can't understand it it's not worth the paper it's printed on. At Beacon Home Inspection Services we provide only the best reports. Our home inspection reports are computer generated. They are a narrative type report with edited photos depicting areas of concern as opposed to a check list that is very vague and lacking in detail. It's very important to choose a home inspector that is affiliated and certified through one of the national associations such as InterNACHI or ASHI. I am a proud member of InterNACHI and I'll be the first to admit that even with all of my experience and knowledge, without the continuous education and certifications from InterNACHI, my business wouldn't be half of what it is today. If you have any questions feel free to give me call. Sincerely, William Scott Beacon Home Inspection Services LLC
