Excellent and very efficient move. The movers took great care of our fragile boxes as well as our custom made furniture. I felt like I got a solid deal considering I had two trucks and 4 movers. Overall, I would use them again.

These young men were my life savers. I was done VERY dirty by Ready To Move Movers off of Fulton Industrial, only part of my apt was moved due to their error in getting the correct size truck. They took my money...ignored my calls. I was in a desperate situation needing to get the remainder of my items and Chris and his staff came to my rescue at a very reasonable FLAT fee. Chris was quick to respond...did the move same day...beat me to the location and was very professional!!! I can't rave enough about the quality of service I received. These guys cleared my apt in 30 mins... I was spook impressed. I will recommend their services to ANYONE needing to move. Thank you, Chris!!!

Needed a three-piece sectional delivered from the furniture store to my apartment. DALowe Movers were at the furniture store before me lol. They were super quick, efficient and very affordable. The owner is really personable and committed to providing exemplary customer service. As they were heading out, I made sure to let them know that I have to furnish two additional rooms in my apartment, plus have some desks, wall mounts and possibly a couple of storage units assembled, so they should be on the lookout for me to hire them again, very soon. DALowe Movers made a great first impression and did an overall excellent job!!!

My husband and I found out we could move into our house just three days before Christmas and used Thumbtack to find last minute movers. Sharon contacted us with a list of services immediately and we researched her company. We decided on Taggabox over the other quotes we recieved and we are so glad we did. Sharon was so helpful and responsive and she sent us three movers and a truck by the next afternoon. So, two days before Christmas three professional, polite, and effcient movers moved us from our two bedroom apartment into our first home. We are very grateful to Taggabox for their quick response and professional movers, everything went better than we could have expected. We recommend them to anyone who needs moving services and would not hesistate to use them again ourselves.

Moving is not always easy but with RLMJ it went smoothly. They came prepared with just the right amount of movers, and equipment to get the job done. RLMJ was able to move my items with care. They treated my items as though it belonged to them. In addition, movers were fast. I will definitely recommend them to others and will use them again without hesitation.

I hired In and Out Movers for a local move from a one bedroom apartment on the first floor to another one bedroom apartment about 3.6 miles away that is on the second floor. Vladimir and Richy were my movers and arrived on time around 9am. Very nice guys and handled my belongings with care. Vladimir even fixed a dresser leg that was already broken from a previous move, but he wanted to make sure that I wouldn't have any issues with it in the future. They moved in the last piece of furniture right at the 2 hour mark so that I wouldn't have to pay extra. I tipped them well because they did a great and efficient job. I've read some reviews that said that the workers were rude, slow, and asked for tips. I did NOT have this experience at all. Vladimir and Richy were polite, quick, and never mentioned a tip. Also when I first called to schedule an appointment, Carlos, the owner, immediately told me about the Groupon special that they were running. I thought that was nice of him to do because he could have not said anything and I would have paid their regular rate. I am happy with my moving experience with In and Out Movers and would definitely use them again as well as recommend them to others. Thank you guys for hard work and help! SA

Jasean knows how to run a successful business. I hired him after First Atlanta Movers/Universal Movers failed to show up. I was incredibly pleased with Jasean’s professionalism. He was polite, prompt and organized. I plan to hire him again in the future and will happily refer my friends and family. Thanks SO much!

The Bellhops were really great guys - prompt, efficient, professional, friendly, strong. Only things not great - the Bellhops movers weren’t in communication with the Bellhops truck and the truck driver didn’t have my number so I nearly had a coronary when they told me there was no truck ... there was, it arrived minutes later. Second thing is that the movers didn’t wrap all the pieces so we had cabinet doors falling open on the stairs. The movers who brought the furniture into the new place had already done one move that day, and it seems they were a little tired and toward the end of that move some of the furniture got banged up a little bit, nothing major. Might be a good idea to find out in advance. Overall great value and a good company that we will use again.

I needed some heavy/large equipment moved from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor of an office building. They provided same day service, and they movers worked hard. It was not an easy task. The only critique is they forgot a couple of lighter items that needed to be moved, but I am willing to over look that. They did a good job, will use again. Thank you!

I wish I would have did the review sooner. Last August, we were moving across the country and needed to clean out the garage before the movers came. Brian came and went out of his way to pick up all load of junk and come back the next morning for an extra pickup. I was grateful!

Extremely professional, they care about my things and when we arrived they offered to place boxes in their proper places. They were fast, efficient, knowledgeable. They did not damage anything and checked in with me in every stage of the moving. I would highly recommend them, to someone on a budget but still wants something professional. They only thing I would watch out for is estimated time for arrival. My movers had some truck trouble, never the less they were professional and the moving went very smooth.

Couldn’t be more happy. Corey is very professional and courteous. Job was scheduled several days out at my request and Corey communicated throughout the week. Arrived on time, very efficient but took extra care moving a leather furniture set. Wrapped furniture and tightly secured everything for transport. Provided me with exact rate and didn’t attempt any bait and switch tactics like other movers tried to do. I would definitely hire again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to friends and family. Appreciate you!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
