This is Neil Renfroe from the Chemistry department. I worked in the Facilities department for a short time two years ago. I am contacting you regarding the Microsoft Excel training and other Microsoft training that I have been doing with Deborah Dunbar. I want to let you know how amazing my experience with Deborah has been and how thankful I am to have the opportunity to work with her.

I started to work with Deborah after I attended one of her amazing Excel classes. After being awed by her impressive teaching style I approached her and asked for some advice on how I could become an Excel instructor. Deborah gave me some great advice and then told me that I could help teach with her at Georgia State University. I was very excited and scared by this opportunity. Deborah and I started co-teaching the Microsoft classes this fall and I have had an amazing experience. I have been able to grow my Excel skills, become a better public speaker, meet new people and have fun. I have taken my enhanced Excel skills and I have applied it to my job duties in the Chemistry department. I have used these skills to create a dashboard for all grant applications submitted by the department and I have used the skills to become a more efficient worker in my day to day job duties. I believe that my new skills in Excel have greatly contributed to my success in the Chemistry department. I just recently received a promotion and I believe that my use of Excel helped me to get this promotion.

Not only have I received a promotion but I was recently approached by the school of policy studies and asked to apply for a position in their department. In the Excel class we taught this fall a business manager from the school of policy studies took the class. She said that we both impressed her so much and that she thought I would be great for this position. I am telling you this because I want you to know the impact Deborah has made on my personal skills and my life. All of these opportunities became available because of the work we have been doing together, her encouragement, and mentoring. I have grown and learned so much in these last six months and I wanted to let you know how amazing Deborah is and the impact she has made in my professional and personal life.

    Deborah Dunbar is an Outstanding computer tech and trainer. She has an amazing ability to relate some of the most complex computer programs to everyday life so you can understand what to do and not be intimidated with the process of learning.

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. How to fix their own computer problems. How to understand Windows and figure out how NEVER to lose files or folders. How to use Microsoft Office like a pro.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Go for quality. Your time is value.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. If I was a customer all I am looking for is an instructor who could gently break down complex computer technology in bite size pieces so I can go from a novice to an expert with the support and help of an instructor who "gets me" .

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I train each student like their life depends on it. And quite honestly it does! Most people are hanging on to their jobs and or trying to find shortcuts to get their job completed faster, and better than the next employee to keep what they have!
If unemployed, we all roll up our sleeves up and work! They have to prove to an employer by way of testing and or many questions that they can and do know how to use computer software. I receive many phone calls or emails telling me “I got the job!”

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. The smiles and notes of appreciation for the hard work and detail I've given to them.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. When is your next class? Is a question they all ask. They want to immediately schedule another session. I'm busy scheduling classes or teaching them.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I had a an adult student at a 2-year college in Marietta, who lost his job and tried everything to find work and not even Food Giant would hire him! After working for decades he was depressed and worried about his wife because he was their only financial supporter. His wife confided in me that he was going to kill himself, then she told him to come to the college and take a class or two. He did and became so excited about his new found knowledge, his joy returned and dark thoughts disappeared. That floored me. One NEVER knows the type of impact you can have while training. I approach every class - like a full tank of gas, when class is over my tank is completely emptied so that theirs is full.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I've taught heavy hitters like FBI, DEA, Army National Guards, Corporate clients, everyday people trying to make sense of all those changes in software programs.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Started winning awards for my training. The writing was on the wall. Time for me to help more people. Thus far, I've taught well over 38,000 people so far.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Anytime someone refers me to their co-workers, friends, training coordinators - then I know they are just as passionate about my training as I was training them!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Always improving. Once you stop or slow down. Forget it. You are already in trouble. Things changes so fast.
