I have been learning Italian for 13 years and also happen to be a retired Spanish teacher and tutor. I also taught ESL and have studied French. So I consider myself knowledgeable enough about second language teaching to recommend Giulia with five stars. Giulia is a natural Italian teacher, not because Italian is her mother tongue but because she instinctively knows when to push and when to stand back. In other words, she is skilled at keeping her students from feeling discouraged or self-conscious. Also, her outgoing, bubbly personality makes lessons with her fun and painless. Since I began working with Giulia almost a year ago, I have made significant progress in vocabulary, fluency, and in using the more challenging verb tenses. I have had two other Italian teachers in Atlanta, and Giulia is the best.

Over the past several years, I have been learning Italian. It is a work in progress and shall continue to be, I am sure. There have been lapses in my studies, as other projects have from time to time taken priority over this hobby and consequently I have had many different private tutors. Giulia has been far and away the best of the lot. Often, the tutor is more interested in talking than listening (a common human frailty) but, when one is trying to learn to speak a foreign language, one must try to speak. Giulia allows me to do that. Like any truly gifted teacher, she understands the level from which her students are beginning and takes them forward from there, tailoring her lessons to best suit her students learning style and level of experience. She is a joy to work with and I can think of no way that she could improve upon her already excellent talents and teaching skills.

I contacted Giulia when I was looking for a tutor to help me learn Italian for an upcoming trip to Italy. We were an instant great fit for each other. We have been meeting twice a week, focusing on oral comprehension and conversation skills (verb conjugations, vocabulary, etc.). I only wish I had started sooner so I could be further along. She has been able to individualize/customize for what I want and need each meeting. Giulia has also provided me with additional resources to help me along. I highly recommend her. I am a retired ESOL teacher and I have an understanding of how language learning is supposed to happen. So does Giulia.
