Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is carpet cleaning in Atlanta?

The starting cost of a carpet cleaning in Atlanta is $30, but prices can range. Professional carpet cleaners typically determine their price through a number of factors, including the size and number of your rooms, the severity of the stains and the type of carpets.

To get the most accurate estimate, reach out to several carpet cleaning services in Atlanta to request a quote. Be prepared to give information about your carpets and rooms.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a professional carpet cleaner during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Set up a virtual appointment to discuss the scope of work. Conducting the consultation over video conference or phone call will ensure that you remain within the CDC's social distancing guidelines

Start by messaging a professional steam cleaner or carpet cleaner near you, and ask them if they would be willing to talk by phone or video call. Be sure to ask them how they handle payments and what precautions they have in place to keep you and your household safe.

How can I find out if a professional carpet cleaner is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

Local and federal governments are currently in the process of defining essential services guidelines, and it’s best to read them to see whether professional carpet cleaning or steam cleaning is considered essential. A good place to start is with your city or state’s government website.

The CISA's Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19 webpage identifies 16 critical infrastructure sectors on a federal level. Some, but not all, jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

Can I use digital payments to pay for professional carpet cleaning?

It’s common for professional carpet cleaners to accept digital payments such as Square Cash, Venmo, Google Pay, Zelle, PayPal and others. The current COVID-19 pandemic is quickly encouraging other companies to digitally transform as well. Make sure the carpet cleaner you hire will accept a digital payment instead of cash or check, and come up with a strategy for complying with social distancing regulations.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

Does a professional carpet cleaner or steam cleaner need to enter my home?

Because the majority of carpet cleaning and steam cleaning jobs take place in someone’s home, it’s likely that a professional carpet cleaner would need to enter your home.

When you contact carpet cleaners near you, ask if they will do a video call in place of a standard consultation. Send photos and other materials digitally. Practice safe social distancing at all times, and follow both local and CDC guidelines.

Is it worth getting carpets professionally cleaned?

Purchasing a steam cleaner yourself may help to remove stubborn stains, but it simply won’t match the deep clean and efficiency that comes from hiring a professional carpet cleaner. Pros have powerful tools that can quickly remove even the most stubborn stains.

If you’re selling your home, clean carpets can make your home more appealing to prospective buyers. And the expense is offset when you consider that you only need to get your carpets cleaned about once a year. Plus, professional carpet cleaning can extend the life of your carpets, saving you money in the long run.

Which is better: steam cleaning or shampooing carpet?

Both steam cleaning and shampooing are tried-and-true methods for getting dirt and stains out of your carpets. The methods are different, however.

Steam cleaning will remove dirt from your carpets via hot water extraction, while shampooing requires scrubbing. If you’re in a time crunch, or if you just have one or two small spots that need to be removed, shampooing may be a better option, as it allows you to spot-clean small areas. Both steam cleaning and shampooing make your carpets wet, so you will need to allow for time for the carpets to dry.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

Mike did it again! Carpets are so clean! He takes so much pride in his work and it really shows. I also appreciate how fair he is. He doesn't charge for areas he doesn't clean like where the couch is. He talks about how he does every house like his own and you can see it in the quality of his work. Anytime I need carpets cleaned I will be calling this company.

We had a need for a carpet cleaning for one of our high profile clients. Not only is our client satisfied with the quality of work ("it looks good and it smells good") but they were very satisfied with the level of professionalism Epic4 displayed. We will definitely use this company again!

Jerome from Epic4 did an amazing job on our carpets. We are moving into a new home (rental), and the property management had already had the carpets cleaned prior to showing. Even still, we had a Epic4 come out to clean up, and the quality of the cleaning was noticeable over what the other company did a month prior. Plus, I was given an appointment time of 12pm, and Jerome was there a couple minutes before 12pm. I was told that it would take about 3 hours to complete the work, and he was done and and packed up about 5 minutes after 3. Simply fantastic service on all fronts.

While the carpet cleaning was of good quality, we had an 8:00 AM appointment and only heard from them at 9:20, almost an hour and a half past the appointment time. By then, I had left both voice messages and text messages asking if anyone was going to show. They were able to reschedule and the work was of good quality. They did offer slight discounts as a means of customer service, but it was beyond surprising there was no contact at all to alert me as to how late he was running.

Go book this man right now! His professionalism, punctuality, quality, and value were all on point. His professionalism is actually why I booked him in the first place; when we first spoke on the phone, based on the information, questions/answers, and overall conversation, it was immediately obvious to me that the person on the other end was an experienced, honest/trustworthy, and hard-working individual, so I knew right away that I was going to book him. We scheduled for an 11AM appointment, and at 10:59AM (I’m not kidding), my phone rang and it was Floyd calling to tell me that he was at my gate. He hadn’t even done the job yet and I already loved the guy! Haha. He came in to clean the carpet, which, to say the least, needed A LOT of love (including his deep cleaning process in some areas), and right away, he carefully explained his plan to me and how he was going to deal with the harder parts, but what I appreciated the most was his honesty re the expectations. I watched him go to work doing his thing and now I have beautiful carpet again (it smells better too). Lastly, Floyd quoted me a very reasonable price! I’m not sure how much longer I’m going to have carpet, but I’m going to have to find a way to book Floyd again! Thank you again, Floyd. Honest and hard-working entrepreneurs like yourself are why I always prefer to work with local/small businesses over big corporations. Go book Floyd!
