Deciding to change careers in my mid-30s was stressing me out. I was not fulfilled in my old career – Retail Sales – and recently decided to look for a career that would be more challenging. I faced two problems. One: my Associates Degree was in Nursing, and I did no longer wanted to pursue a career in Healthcare. Two: I was told by my manager at work, and others, that getting out of Retail can be very difficult, as potential employers see that on your resume and think that you can’t do anything else.
I was referred to Career Pro Resumes by a good friend who had used them here in Atlanta, and had gotten a great new job using their resume. She actually had a few job offers in computer sales, and chose the one that was $15,000 more than what she had been making as a marketing assistant.
From the initial phone call, company president Jody Gothard was very personable, professional, and detail oriented in his explanation of his company’s services, and in his questionnaire that he provided to me to gain additional highlights from my career, including how much money I had made for the store, how many people I had trained, and any awards I had received. He even asked for quotes from my old evaluations and letters of commendation, that I never would have thought of using on my old resume.
The entire process was very easy. Their office in the Bank of America Building in Sandy Springs was very easy to find, right off of I-285, parking was free, and they had a nice comfortable office. Mr. Gothard took me right in as soon as I arrived, and to arrive at a meeting and not having to wait at all was very impressive. He spent more time than the 30 minutes I had expected to spend with him, he showed me all the different packages and samples of dozens of resumes of clients he had helped in my field.
His samples was spectacular! I could tell why his clients are getting 80% interview rates. The fold open brochures and folder resume, some of which had had been written for actual HR Managers, were extremely well written and visually attractive. My anxiety about the whole resume writing process immediately faded, and my feelings about my chances of landing a job in a new industry increased big time. Mr. Gothard is very confident in what he does, and I was able to see hundreds of Client Reviews written by many of the clients who have come through these doors over the years. I knew that my career was in good hands.
I left that office, and by the time I got home, the questionnaire he had emailed to me was already in my email. I filled it out and send it back the next day, and they had the first draft of my new resume in my email box before the week was over. My parents, friends, and everyone who has seen it, has been as impressed as I was. It looks phenomenal. I sent it to a about 20 companies, and a few days later got a call from a computer liquidator, who needed to replace his office manager, who was leaving due to her marriage and move to New York. I got the interview, and was offered the job later that day. The company owner said that the main reason he decided to bring me in, was because the resume gave specific examples of my strengths, and that he thought I had tools and personality to take over for his long term administrative manager. Needless to say, I am very appreciative of Mr. Gothard and Career Pro for helping me get out of retail, which could have been a very difficult task without such a stand out resume. I have already sent in a few of my friends, knowing that they will have the same professional, confident, and caring experience that I had with this company.
