Carlos was great to work with. I hired him to handle my lighting on a reno project and he was quick and efficient to install new lighting throughout the house and added can lights in the kitchen. He later came to my rescue when a previous contractor didn’t work out and was quick to pick up the add’l work installing new flooring, a ceiling repair, painting and fixing a tile backsplash in the kitchen. Thanks to him, I was finally able to sell my property and everyone complemented the finishes especially, thanks to Carlos!!

Gabrini did an excellent job executing my backsplash project in the kitchen and bathrooms! He was very kind and professional. I was undecided as to the tile choice but Gabrini assisted in my selection of the perfect one! His prices are unbeatable! I had shopped around quite a bit before selecting a contractor. He completed the job swiftly and was very trustworthy. I left Gabrini in my home and came back to a job well done! I plan to use Gabrini again for a flooring project and would absolutely refer him to anyone in search of a knowledgeable tile contractor. Thanks again Gabrini for beautifying my home!

Awesome job! Showed up on time and completed the work quickly. We had to fire our previous contractor and waited 2+ months and they only pressured washed the house to prep for painting. Very enjoyable and professional experience.

We have used Flooring Zone during our total home remodel over the past year. They have installed everything from travertine, porcelain, laminate and hardwood to custom glass tile in our showers and kitchen. During our renovation we had two high profile Contractors managing separate projects which included some of the tile work. Flooring Zone was called in on both projects to take over the tile work due to their level of skill and expertise. Their staff is dedicated, hard-working, professional and reliable. After comparing their pricing with competitor products and services, we found that Flooring Zone was the most fair and transparent. They arrived on time and stay with our projects through successful completion. Miles would even drop by my office to deliver samples for us to consider. Having recently hired so many Contractors, Flooring Zone was a refreshing experience. We are bringing them back in shortly to finish the last rooms of our renovation. When it comes to Miles and the Flooring Zone, we just keep calling them back because I know we will get a great outcome. I highly recommend calling Flooring Zone first or at least include them before making a flooring or tiling decision. You can reach Miles DuChanois, Installation Manager/Sales, Flooring Zone at C:678-768-6090, O:855-344-ZONE.

Mr. Hernandez cleaned and sealed the tile in my 35 year old master bathroom. He also touched up areas where the grout had worn away and replaced the caulking around the tub. He was extremely easy to work with and did an outstanding job!! I will definitely hire him again!

Alan came into our home to work on an extensive Drywall project which included replacement of all ceiling drywall, finishing, painting, texturing and second-pass re-work of any areas requiring additional work. Alan was then further hired to complete post-construction patch work on drywall damaged from other construction projects. We were so impressed with his work, demeanor, work ethic, timeliness, cost, and reliability that we asked him to complete trim work throughout the house at a later date. I cannot recommend Alan highly enough. If you have a project requiring his skills, he is the person you want to complete it.

Excellent service, work, punctuality, responsiveness, and anything else you would expect from good contractors! I have been pleasantly surprised by the way Leo handled himself, and Rigo, who helped him. I have had many other contractors that did not do so well. No complaints- only compliments for these guys! Scope of work: tile, trim, paint, toilets, and even light drywall repair. Give them a call!

Santos Home Services knocked this job out of the park for me. I am redoing a mud/laundry room off the garage and knew the tile work was something I just didn’t have the skill, tools, or patience to mess with on my own. Santos provided a very fair quote and was upfront with the overall scope of work. I provided materials and he provided labor. He was very good with communication and flexible with his schedule. He showed up on time the first day and he cleaned up before leaving. Second day, everything went as planned as well. He was good about allowing me to inspect his work and provide feedback. It was clear his top priority was my satisfaction. Without a doubt I would and will hire Santos again. I was very happy with the workmanship and outcome. Hire with confidence.

Lee did a lot of work for us. We had 3 bathrooms totally redone by Lee and his worker. That included demo work as well as the file work. Lee did everything he said he would, texted me when needed and always communicated what he needed to get the job done with quality and speed. His price for doing the work was competitive, a little less than other quotes, but seeing pictures of his work and meeting him in person worked for me. I have already given Lee's contact information to a friend who is thinking about some tile work.

Tom tiled three bathrooms, one laundry room and replaced my old back splash in my kitchen. He did outstanding work! He had to custom cut every singel tile for the backsplash - 60 square feet of tile. He really improved the appearance of our kitchen. He also remodeled our guest bathroom. He was going to tear out the existing outdated tile shower. However, since the shower was in such good shape, he recommended keeping it and just tile the floor and stoop of the shower. He painted the bathroom with two colors that tiled it all together. In addition, he installed bead board and trimmed it out. Excellent wood worker and painter too. I would highly recommend him!

The service was great! The communication was better. I am a communicator and I am honest and so was Marcus. He also came out and gave us a demo on our job. He didn’t complain one time and was patient with us as we worked through out the project. We hired him for lighting but I would also recommend you check his other work! Thanks Marcus!

When we needed a bathroom remodel due to age and water damage from a leak, we gathered quotes from multiple contractors but Charles went above any beyond by taking the time to walk us through each step of what he would do, what products he would use, and what work would need to be done through each stage of the project. Throughout the entire install he was an absolute professional taking the time at the start of each day and end of each day to give us a walk through of what work was done that day, what would be done tomorrow, and making note of any concerns we had throughout the project. Even as we made adjustments during the project Charles had no problem taking the changes in stride and making it happen. Charles did an amazing job and we will absolutely use him again without question for future tile projects.

I hired Mr. Blount to install ceramic tile on the entire first floor of my townhouse. He has been very easy to work with from my initial contact with him to the completion of the install. Mr. Blount's estimate for the job was reasonable and his work was excellent. He adhered to his work schedule, with no inconvenience to me, and finished on time. As a result of such a positive first experience with Mr Blount, I have contracted him to complete other renovations in my home. I am sure he will do a great job on those projects as well.

Teyon is great to work with very attentive and willing to accommodate any last minute updates or changes without any push back at all. Overall this probably one of the best experiences I've had dealing with the contractor. And that's saying a lot because I've had a lot of work done on my house.

I had a great experience! I hired another contractor to help with my floors and they cancelled at the last moment. I tried Thumbtack and this pro responded right away. When we spoke i explained what was needed and explained the urgency to have the work completed the next day. We made arrangements and he advised he would arrive to my home between 8am-9am. Wow! This gentleman called at 7:45am to let me know he would arrive in 15 minutes. I was very impressed. We completed a walk through and he noticed I didn't have all the materials and several wrong items as well. I resolved the missing items and he completed my floors. Very quickly! The project was a success!! I Highly recommend using this pro because I will use him in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
