I highly recommend using Francis for help with training your dog. He was knowledgable, patient, and great with my dog. We had 6 classes with him and he got my stubborn dog to do things I never thought she could do!!! I am so happy with the results. I have worked with many dog trainers in the past and he is one of my favorite!!!

I'm training my Great Dane pup to be my seizure alert/service dog and hired Ms Kristie to get my pup at least to the point where I'm in control over her so I could do my part of her training easier and let me tell you I am beyond happy and could not have asked for a better trainer! Kristie is the kindest and sweetest person I've ever met and does her job in such a way it's just amazing! I am so glad I used this service and found her. And I would defiantly and highly recommend Kristie! Actually I have a fb page for my dogs journey to become my SA/SD and I speak very highly of her on there already! If you need a trainer for your pup defiantly go with the best and the BEST IS KRISTIE TANKARD!!! 😃

I reached out on Thumbtack for a dog trainer and Dawn responded within 15 minutes. She patiently explained the process involved to train my 7-year old Dachshund, who - shame on me - previously had no obedience training. Then Dawn came to my house to meet Max and give her assessment. At the appointed day/time, Dawn arrived and led Max away for a couple of weeks of off-leash training. He's still "at camp" and I'm getting periodic progress reports from Dawn, laced with a little humor. I miss the little guy and am really looking forward to seeing the results! Mark Baker

Keith contacted me about dog training. We had a first meeting that was supposed to last 30 minutes but ended up lasting almost 2 hours. He answered all of my concerns that I had about training and leaving my dog with a stranger. I got daily updates with pictures and videos of how my dog was progressing. I could not be happier with my decision to hire Keith and S-K9 Solutions for my dog training.

Our family recently worked with Sonja to help us teach our new rescue dog (1.5 years old) some manners. He is the most friendliest dog but would jump on people, play bite things and people, and was extremely hard to take for walks. We have learned so much with Sonja's help and encouragement. Sonja knows her stuff, she is upfront, reliable and always makes herself available for questions. No doubt that Sonja is one of the Best dog trainers around. The whole experience was worth every single penny. Now when friends come over to our home, we hear comments like, "Oh! Your dog is so well behaved." Even during a dinner party, he stayed in his "place" when told to do so. We are so proud of our rescue's accomplishments. He is the best dog ever and thanks to Sonja, everyone can see that when they come into our home or when we are out for a walk.

He was skilled, dedicated and down right pleasant. If you are having any reservations about using an e-collar, have them try it on you (they make everyone) so you can experience what your dog will feel . If you do the training, you will walk away amazed after the first lesson. It is incredibly effective. I feel so comfortable now walking with my springer in the woods or in a park. I know she will come to me as soon as I give the command (or stop and sit where she is at if I say sit). This is a great investment for you and your dog - it gives you peace of mind and helps keep your pup safe. You'll find that it won't take long at all before you can give the command with the e-collar on zero (which basically means it is nothing more than a clicker). I am very pleased with the e-collar and loved the staff at off leash training! I highly recommend them.

I would definitely recommend Linda to be your personal dog groomer. She was very patient and did an excellent job grooming my babies. To add to that she has even more services for my dog to benefit from.

They were able to train my dog in a way that I can now effectively communicate to him. Previously he would bark at strangers but now he is obedient. I highly recommend them and will consider putting my other dog too.

Chelsea is an excellent trainer. She is reasonably priced and produces amazing results. She treats all of her client's dogs like her own. She is passionate and extreamly knowledgable. I reccomend Chelsea to everyone who is looking for a trainer. Most all other places charge outrageous prices and don't get the results you desire. Chelsea works with you so that you learn how to continue your dogs training after she leaves. She gives details notes about the sessions so that you have all the details in case you forget what she showed you. She answers any question I have and gives genuine advice everytime I reach out to her after our training sessions. She is one of a kind and I am truly blessed to have met her. My boys' lives would not be the same without her.

My 5 month old puppy and I both love working with Kris at Family Dog Training! I went to her looking for basic obedience training, but was thrilled to learn that she is also certified in several areas of dog fitness and agility training! She uses her knowledge to add fun, and safe, exercises which incorporate the basic obedience skills we are learning. This is a great way to have fun with your dog or puppy, and create a stronger bond with your pet!!

We first found Country Critters because of a lost dog they found that needed a home. We were so impressed by their caring for this little dog that we adopted him and started bringing all five of our dogs to them for grooming. They allowed us to stay there and watch how they treated our fur babies and they are the only place where I feel comfortable taking my babies. They smell so good and look great when they are groomed. All of my babies love going there and I would be completely comfortable boarding them if the need arises. They are the best!

Lindsay is the BEST! I can always trust her to take care and give lots of love to my dog, Harley. Whether she is walking him, dropping in for a home visit, or he stays with her, she always send me pictures of them having a blast. She keeps me updated and I am never worried about Harley when I know he's in her care.

        About

I left a lucrative career to follow my passion -- working with animals and providing peace of mind to people and their pets. I have been a lifelong pet owner (dogs, cats, birds, fish, chickens, farm animals and more!) and have several years of experience pet sitting and working in animal rescue, fostering and rehoming. I'm studying to be a veterinary technologist. Are you a little nutty, maybe even considered a crazy person because you love your pets so much? That's okay because I feel the same way. I understand your need to feel secure about who visits and cares for your animals and to be updated as much as you wish on how they are doing while in someone else's care. I tailor my services to you and your pet. I am insured and bonded unlike those friends, neighbors and family members we've all been bugging over the years to help with our pets! I will care for any animal and am not afraid of anything; I love them all. Call me to discuss rates and services; you will find my rates to be very affordable. My goal is to make pet sitting accessible to as many people as possible who want to relax knowing their pets are in good hands.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

        • What type of training methods do you use?
        • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
        • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
