I cannot say enough great things about the awesome job Gabrini did on our kitchen backsplash! He is truly a master of his craft, and his professionalism is first rate. He is very knowledgeable about design elements, and he patiently advised us on the best way to achieve the look we were going for. I would highly recommend him to my family, friends, or anyone else!

I recently purchased a new oven and had no idea my cabinets would need to practically be rebuilt for it to fit, I just assumed all ovens were the same. Eric was recommended by a friend and he took the time to explain exactly what needed to be done and why. He showed up on time and when he left the kitchen looked great. I highly recommend Eric to anybody who wants a true professional in their kitchen.

General Contracting - I had several projects to be done as we were getting to put my home of 8 years on the market (kitchen leak, kitchen bay box, shutters, paint, deck). After reading all the reviews, I decided to contact Michael to get a quote. Due to scheduling conflicts, I couldn’t originally meet him on Friday or Saturday, so he took it upon himself to come on a Sunday (which is pretty unheard of since most contractors usually don’t work on Sundays) to assess the job and do his pre-inspection. The quote was more than reasonable for the amount of work I demanded and Michael was hired… All jobs were done in a timely manner; it took approximately 2 weeks due to the weather and schedule conflicts. He kept me informed of what was being done each day and sent pictures of any findings needing attention. I would call Michael and TNT Building and Remodeling LLC if I ever need any work done on my future home and would recommend them to anyone.

Andy showed up in a matter of hours after I posted my request. Fastest turnaround I've seen on Thumbtack. Very professional, responsive and knowledgeable on repairs. He applied some seals meant to block my Kitchen sink from leaking. He confidently assured me that the seals should hold. In the very small chance that it does return, he committed to coming back to replace the entire unit. Saving your info for future handyman issues that may come up. Thanks Andy

I called Eric initially to change a chandelier in my dining room which he did for a great price and came out great. I inquired about recessed lighting in my family room and his price was literally almost half of what another contractor quoted me. Eric came back and installed 6 recessed lights with LED trims and even installed a dimmer for me for no extra charge. He is very clean and even though he had to cut holes in the wall to run wiring when he finished there wasn't dust all over the place and the wall looked the same as before. I will definetly be bringing Eric back for some more household projects in the future starting with updating my kitchen backsplash.

Adi did a great job on our kitchen backsplash. He came and reviewed the project and quoted us a fair price later that day. He showed up on time each day the following week and methodically and skillfully completed the project. The job required many creative solutions because our drywall was in bad shape and countertops weren’t flush to the wall. Adi cleaned up the drywall and installed new drywall where necessary in order to solve the problem. When it came time to install the backsplash tile, Adi was meticulous about getting the pattern perfect—great attention to detail. We also had Adi fix two drywall issues in our ceiling and after he patched and painted you would never know the issues had been there. Great work Adi, and it was a pleasure getting to know you! We’d definitely recommend his work and would (and likely will) hire him again.

I've worked with over 20 designers and I've never been impressed until now. Hoda is extremely talented, has great communication skills and delivers on time for a fair price. I've done 2 projects with Hoda so far and look forward to doing many more.

Devin did an excellent job! Great communication before and during the job. I wasn't even sure what the problem was, only that there was an issue with water flow in my kitchen sink. He did a thorough inspection, talked with me, and determined I needed a new faucet. He let me pick out a faucet I wanted, then he picked it up an installed it quickly and at a great price.

Kimberly helped us with a kitchen makeover. She was able to show us techniques to update our cabinets without having to replace them . She helped us to choose colors and textures that helped make our old outdated kitchen look like new. we needed to update our lighting and appliances and she was able to guide us in that process. I also believe she helped us to make choices on some things that saved us money. Her personality is such that when feeling overwhelmed with all the decisions you need to make she calms you down and helps you to see the possibilities in a way that is not so overwhelming. she was extremely helpful in finding a balance between my husband and my personalities and different tastes. I would highly recommend Kimberly to anyone who is looking to make changes in their home.

Susan did an outstanding job staging my northeast Atlanta home at an incredibly affordable price. Her service was expedient, with the entire process of staging my kitchen, dining area, living area, master bedroom and bath, a second bath, and front and back porches being completed within the course of about 3-4 days. Her taste and eye for detail are just impeccable, and she was such a delight to work with. I believe staging my home is the key to getting it sold quickly!

Julie was recommended to us by our real estate agent, and I must admit that we were a bit leery about working with an interior designer. We had a limited budget, and were concerned about whether we would be listened to. We had lots of ideas, but as two busy professionals, we had no time to flesh out those ideas or research products. We were worried about hiring contractors who would take us for a ride. As it turned out, there was no reason to worry, because working with Julie was fabulous! She listened, and developed a kitchen design that perfectly fit the aesthetic of our house. She was prompt, detail oriented, and steered us to products that were classy and fit the budget. She was patient, sensitive, and a pleasure to work with. The remodeling team that she works with were tops, and were at our house every day until the job was done. We couldn't be more pleased, as we know that kitchen remodels can be a nightmare. Our kitchen is beautiful and so much more functional to cook in.

We love Danielle and Jeremy at Atlanta Home Designs! They worked with us for 5 months updating our dated 70's home. New kitchen, new bathroom, new mudroom, new floors, new keeping room, new dining room, all new trim and baseboards, new doors, new paint, and more! They removed walls, added support beams, rewired electrical, and coordinated every other little thing needed for success. Every step was well planned and design renderings were reviewed with us for every room. When an unexpected issue arose, they quickly explained everything to us, gave us our options, and we quickly solved the problem together. Their prices are very competitive, but their quality is superior! Our home looks like it could be in a magazine. The project took a little longer than expected, but it was well worth the wait. I would definitely recommend them to family and friends.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
