John did everything that was asked of him and more! He provided suggestions and even allowed me and my wife to make last minute changes prior to the wedding. The music was beautiful and the sound was crisp. He was the first one there for our rehearsal and he was on time for our ceremony as well. The price was very reasonable and I highly recommend booking him as your pianist!

Steven, Hope this message gets to you as I would like to thank you for your performance at the Atlanta Jazz Festival 2010.  Your band had a great set and I feel my trip up from Gainesville FL was worth the trip just to hear your band's version of Cassie's Theme by Grover Washington.  If you have a recording of that please tell me how to get my hands on it. I am so glad I made it to the concert early.  I feel that your band and Trombone Shorty were the highlights of the night and I am a Bass Player.   Can't say it enough, you guys are an incredibly gifted Jazz Band. Great work on the saxes and please let me know the name of the bass player again.  He worked the pocket well and every one of your band members played their role.  Great groove and pocket, your entire set. If you guys ever play in Florida let me know, once again, an incredible set at the Jazz Festival! Kraig G.

Korby played guitar for my surprise wedding proposal. He arrived on time and dressed professionally. I loved that he had his own original song "Wedding Ring" that he could play and he really nailed it.

From Christie: When my son Joey decided sophomore year that he wanted to take up clarinet with the goal of joining marching band the next year, we knew he had alot of work to do! Mr. Derringer worked with Joey on short- and long-term goals, and provided excellent instruction and mentorship to get him there. Joey has made so much growth in the year he has been working with Mr. Derringer. He's ready to join the band! From Joey: Mr. Derringer is an excellent teacher. He knows what he's talking about and has a clear understanding of the clarinet. He is fun to talk to and makes it easy to understand the concepts we're working on.

We have had NUMEROUS friends and family members tell us you were the very best 80s band AND wedding band they have EVER heard. You guys simply BLEW our expectations out of the water! You were so professional, welcoming and killed the music! You guys made our wedding! I cannot imagine any band would come close to the performance you gave. The song selection and overall performance was AMAZING. You sounded great! When I think back to that night, I picture all of my friends and family dancing and singing along and this is what every bride dreams of. I cannot thank you enough for driving to my unique venue and making my dreams come true. I wish you guys all the best of luck- although you don't need it... Your talent speaks for itself

Working with DJ Vann1 Entertainment was a pleasure! I couldn't have asked for a better DJ for my wedding. Planning a wedding can be so stressful, but he was there to answer any question that I had and offer advice when I needed it. He was very prompt, professional, and just genuinely a nice guy. I will definitely use DJ Vann1 Entertainment again for any future events I may have.

I hired David and his band for a birthday party, and it was awesome. We were on our feet all night. The playlist went from old school r&b to light rock with everything else in between. We gave requests and they were added to the set. The band was professional but fun. I loved that they kept the crowd involved. I'm sure I'll use David again, and I've referred to several people. You wont be disappointed!

I am now a three time best selling author. I had a book singing party on july 30th 2016. When I tell you this band got down. I mean they were perfect. On time and very professional. I don't think I could have found a better band. I will hire this woman and her band a thousand time over again and I look forward to having them at my next book signing event. I love them. They are now my family. I would recommend them to any and everyone. So friendly and witty. Book them now. You will not regret it. My name is Author Mario Lattimore by the way

There are NO WORDS that can adequately convey how happy I was with the performance. I had an intimate dinner party and needed the volume to be low. They NAILED it! Her voice is like a warm set of silk sheets you just want to wrap yourself in. The band was AMAZING. Guitar, keyboard and drums. The website asked me how it could have been better. I suppose if a rainbow magically appeared and unicorns ran up it then it would have been better but I really can't fault them for the lack of magical rainbows. There were fantastic memories made that night that will last forever. You just can't beat that. They will be hired again...and again. P.S. My date said it was her best Valentine's Day ever. Can't tell you what that means to (and for) me! :)

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
