I hired this company to put a roof on my existing deck nearly a six months ago and it has leaked since Day 1 (or technically Day 1 of rain). I initially interviewed several contractors - and while Stott was NOT the cheapest - this company (owner - Shawn Michael Stott) gave me a detailed estimate, references, contractor license # - at a pretty affordable price. They allowed me pay Home Depot directly for materials, the balance (labor) upon completion of job. Also - they actually showed up on the day promised to start the job - unlike the two other contractors that had scheduled previously!!! On the day of the job, I was a little taken aback because Mr. Stott only showed up briefly then left to 'take care of another job.' Seeing that his partner was there, whom I had met previously - made me feel a little better - but as the day progressed - I became more and more concerned. Mr. Stott's partner was fighting either the 'flu or a really bad cold' and they'd picked up to helpers (from Craigslist) that same day who were friendly guys - but 1) one helper was a hard worker - yet did not know enough about roofing to be doing the lion's share of the work - this from the helper's own mouth and 2) the other helper was lazy and spent most of the day sitting around - this from Stott's partner's mouth. And I have cameras on my house - so I was able to confirm all of this. :-( Unfortunately - as I said - the roof leaked - terribly in more than 3 different places. I took video of it and sent it ot him. He also failed to adjust my gutter hangers - so for the first 2 weeks - every time it rained, there were gallons of water being dumped into the air conditioning condensor on the ground below. It cost me $100 to find this out from local handyman when I called him out to clean the gutters thinking I had some sort of blockage from debris. Yes. I tried to give Stott the benefit of the doubt - that the water dumping from the gutter was a coincidence, a blockage, and not a result of the work that had just been done. I'm an idiot. He did come back out - once - and put some sort of lacquer on it - and of course that helped, but didn't resolve the problem entirely. Then he started giving me the run around - ignoring my calls and texts and when I told him I was going to dispute partial payment and hire another contractor to repair it - he actually, finally, responded - AND THREATENED ME WITH LEGAL ACTION if I did so. Really? He followed up by telling me that he wasn't giving me the run around and that he hadn't come back to repair or re-do because he'd taken a big job 'out of town.' He assured me that he would take care of it as soon as he got back. It's been over 6 months - and now, of course, he just won't return my calls or respond to my texts. I'm not a contractor - or a roofer - otherwise - I would have done this job myself :-) but here's my opinion: I honestly think that roof would not be leaking if 1) Mr. Stott had actually been onsite and 2) Mr. Stott's partner had not been so ill (he was dizzy and sweating and had to rely heavily on the one helper) - the roof probably would have been water-tight. But - that still doesn't excuse the fact that the roof is not even wide enough. It does not even extend past the left and right side handrails! Argh. Mr. Stott did later apologize about not being onsite - said that the other job had come up suddenly - and he was understandably reluctant to turn jobs. He'd previously talked to me about how he and his wife had just had a baby and how his Grandmother had recently passed - and how much honesty and integrity he had because of his past relationship with Grandmother. I think he completely hoodwinked me - and I'm sure if he ever sees this review - he will take the time to respond, angrily, and / or send me angry, threatening text messages - and somehow place all the blame on my shoulders. Oh well . . . I'm not sure how I'm going to proceed - other than filing a BBB complaint - but I wanted to warn other homeowners.
